Can someone 'sticky' this thread? I seem to remember Gramps helping on that

FlyerIllini 01-11-2017 01:36 PM

Neo: Thanks for getting this rolling. It's a little harder finding offers in Illinois, but here are a couple I'm aware of:

Luke Anthony-Wheaton North-6'3"/190#-QB-Drake, Butler
Mark Bach-Barrington-6'1"/250#-C-Drake, Valpo, U. of Minn-Duluth

FlyerIllini 01-12-2017 01:25 PM

Logan Moews-Barrington-5'10"/190#-RB/WR-Butler, Valpo

First commit I've located:

Joe Gannon/Naperville Central HS/DE/6'3"-235#
Link to Hudl Video: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3991163/joe-gannon

Congrats Joe, you made a great decision. Welcome to the Flyer Family.

FlyerIllini 01-17-2017 09:17 AM

Another commit:

Jack Schell/Bishop Shanahan (PA)/OT/6'4"-240#
Hudl: https://www.hudl.com/profile/4303961/jack-schell

Welcome to the Flyer Family.

FlyerIllini 01-17-2017 12:10 PM

Commit:

Luke Anthony/Wheaton North (IL)/QB/6'3"-190#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2801263/luke-anthony

Reminds me a little of the current Flyer QB. Like him, Luke is a very good hoops player, and he also had offers from both of the PFL's Bulldogs. Since Luke lives in a suburb (Wheaton) that's adjacent to the home base of the current Flyer QB (Glen Ellyn), perhaps they can get together to throw this summer.

Congrats and welcome to the Flyer Family.

Showme Flyer 01-17-2017 02:05 PM

Nice Get

FlyerIllini 01-19-2017 03:53 PM

Commit:

Kevin Bickett/Brandon H.S. (MI)/WR/5'10"-160#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/4213634/kevin-bickett

It appears that much of Kevin's senior year was cut short by injury. Based on the limited hudl video, however, he looks like another Wes Welker-type. Congrats and welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-19-2017 05:51 PM

Commit:

Michael Hegeweld/St. Francis HS (MI)/TE/6'4"-223#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3375445/michael-hegewald

Good hands and looks to be a devastating blocker. Welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-22-2017 02:50 PM

Commit:

Cameren Alber/Brookville HS (OH)/DE/6'4"-205#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2839060/cameren-alber

Cameren's brother, Austin, was a stud DT for the Flyers. While it's not always wise to follow in your older brother's footsteps, in this case it was a great decision. Welcome (back) to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-23-2017 02:01 PM

Got this one wrong...he apparently committed to Georgetown.

NEOFlyer 01-23-2017 04:28 PM

Great job finding those commitments FI. I am being little or no help.

I did find that one of our offers (Alex Beck - Hudson OH) took a walk-on offer from Ohio State. We wish him luck.

NEOFlyer 01-23-2017 04:53 PM

I was also hoping that we had a lot or recruits on campus this past weekend. The beautiful weather should have been great for selling Dayton. The level of activity around campus must have been vibrant. My son hosted a recruit and he said it went very well.

FlyerIllini 01-23-2017 05:35 PM

Neo: Thanks for weighing in...I was starting to feel alone in the UDPride wilderness. It's been a little tough finding these guys, but I think more will be showing up in the next 2 weeks. One place I've started to look is on the twitter accounts of the assistant coaches (Fox and Overman, in particular). Sometimes, they'll tweet about a commitment, and then immediately re-tweet the player's tweet saying he committed.

To the extent that other "lurkers" want us to continue looking for these commitments, feel free to say "thanks" from time to time. I'm not looking for gratitude, I just want to be sure at least a few Flyer fans are paying attention.

FlyerIllini 01-24-2017 10:48 AM

Commit (I think):

Evan Frazier/Central Catholic HS (Pittsburgh)/WR/6'3"-190#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/video/3/4122554/...8ec48238e58f5f

Coach Overman tweeted about getting "a big WR from the steel city," and I'm fairly certain Evan is that guy. If so, it's a very nice pickup. Tall, athletic receivers are hard to come by. If I'm right, welcome to the Flyer family.

PittsburghFlyer 01-24-2017 12:45 PM

Frazier

Looks like you are right FI with the Steel City kid. I have posted a link to his twitter account below. He is sporting a #15 Dayton Flyer jersey!

Commit:

Nick Bart/Barrington HS (IL)/OL/6'3"-287#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2875837/nick-bart

This is a really good pickup for the Flyers. Big o-lineman with a little bit of a nasty streak. Had some good offers, including Drake. Welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-25-2017 11:01 AM

Commit:

Richie Warfield/Providence Catholic HS (IL)/RB/5'11"-200#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2748293/richie-warfield

Fantastic pickup by the Flyers. I followed this young man in HS, and he is a great player. Fast, strong and tough. He has the potential to be a great RB for the Flyers. Welcome to the family.

NEOFlyer 01-25-2017 01:29 PM

I FOUND ONE!!

Simon Kroos - Bexley HS (Columbus OH) 6'2"/171# - CB/QB
http://www.hudl.com/profile/2820303/simon-kroos

Seems to have some good speed. At 170# would definitely have to put on some weight. My projection is he'd be a candidate for a safety position

Welcome to the family

Commit:

Alan Watson/Independence HS (TN)/CB/5'11"-190#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/video/3/2995493/...17084494cbdb8a

Good size and speed. The Flyers are a little thin at CB, so one of these freshmen may have the chance to make an immediate impact. Welcome to the Flyer family.

He tweeted his committment. Another one in the Ghetto!!

Commit:

Paddy Byrne/St. Patrick HS (IL)/WR/5'11"-160lbs
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2790381/paddy-byrne

Possibly the next Ryan Skibinski? It appears his season was cut short due to injury, but looks quick and fast. For those wondering, based on his Hudl picture, he looks just as Irish as his name (and HS) would suggest. Welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-26-2017 10:03 AM

Commit:

Nate Obringer/Lebannon HS (OH)/DE/6'2"-223#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3213917/nate-obringer

Two-time defensive player of the year for his HS team. Looks like a "high-motor" guy who likes to get after QBs. Welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-26-2017 10:09 AM

Commit:

Parker Getz/Bexley HS (OH)/DT/6'2"-234#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2820379/parker-getz

Quick burst and seems to be able to shed blockers well. As with most FR, he'll need to bulk up. This is a position of need, so glad to see it being addressed. Welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-26-2017 10:31 AM

With "signing day" only about a week away, the commitments are starting to roll in. Here's a summary of the 16 commits thus far:

DE-3 (Gannon, Alber, Obringer)
DT-1 (Getz)
LB-1 (Unknown, but Coach Overman tweeted about a "head-cracking" LB from Pittsburgh)
DB-3 (Deen, Kroos, Watson)
OL-2 (Schell, Bart)
WR-3 (Bickett, Frazier, Byrne)
TE-1 (Hegeweld)
RB-1 (Warfield)
QB-1 (Anthony)

Not surprisingly, the focus seems to be on the defensive side of the ball. Great to have a number of commitments at CB. Need to keep working on DT. Probably another 10 or so to go.

FlyerIllini 01-26-2017 12:08 PM

Commit:

Logan Moews/Barrington HS (IL)/RB/5'10"/190#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2875592/logan-moews

Another great pick-up at RB (or possibly WR), and the second kid from Barrington HS. According to his Hudl page, he runs a sub-4.5/40. Speed kills. Welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-26-2017 04:47 PM

Commit:

Shane Ferrick/Central Catholic HS (PA)/LB/6'2"-220#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/video/3/3764694/...2eb2515c8d469e

Presumably, this is the head-cracking LB from the steel city that Coach Overman tweeted about. This is the 2nd commit from this HS. Plays downhill and likes to hit. Just what you want in a LBer. Welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-26-2017 05:33 PM

Commit:

Joe Bubonics/Solon HS (OH)/DB/5'9"-170#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3937444/joe-bubonics

Also played QB his Sr. year, but I'm guessing he was recruited as a DB. He's also a dangerous return man, so his first impact may come on special teams. Welcome to the Flyer family.

FlyerIllini 01-27-2017 11:08 AM

Commit:

Brandon Easterling/Fairborn HS (OH)/DB/6'0"-186#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2844997/brandon-easterling

Appears that he's being recruited as a DB (possibly safety), but he did a little of everything for his HS, including long-snapping. In fact, he may have had the most productive single game of any Flyer recruit this past fall. In a single game, he had 15 receptions for 181 yds and 2 TDs; 1 rush of 34 yds. for another TD; and 22 tackles, including a forced fumble. That would be a solid month for most HS players. Welcome to the Flyer family.

WR-3 (Bickett, Frazier, Byrne)
TE-1 (Hegeweld)
RB-2 (Warfield, Moews)
QB-1 (Anthony)

The geographic breakdown is: Ohio (6); Illinois (6); Pennsylvania (3); Michigan (2); Maryland (1); Tennessee (1). Still likely another 5-10 commits out there.

Jack Cook - Seneca Valley HS - Harmony PA -- 6'0"/195# -- QB/DB

Another "steel city" kid. He also played QB, but I suspect he's being recruited as a DB. In addition to playing both ways, he also blocked at least 2 punts on special teams. Wherever he ends up, he seems like a young man who just wants to help his team win. He's come to the right place. Welcome to the Flyer family.

WOW! A coaches son!!! Good Luck Joe! And... he wore #7.
Dad is about as good a defensive coach as any high school or small college program will see!!!!! (in my experience not conjecture)

Steven Fleming/Lemont HS (IL)/WR/5'10"-190#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3393512/steven-fleming

This young man can fly (sub 4.5/40), and is great at adjusting to balls a little off the mark. Also a monster on the jet sweep. This kid has "stud" potential. Welcome to the Flyer family.

Commit:

Nick Bell/Centennial HS (TN)/DT/6'2"-250#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/2643917/nicholas-bell

Nick also plays OT, but I'm assuming he's being recruited for the D-line. Good disruptor in the middle and seems to play with great intensity. Very good pickup at a position that needs depth. Welcome to the Flyer family.

Showme Flyer 01-30-2017 06:48 PM

Need more OL

FlyerIllini 01-30-2017 10:54 PM

Showme: Of course, would always love to have a couple more OL. Having said that, they will have 11 on their roster for next year, with 2 more in the incoming class. Of the 11 currently on the roster, only 1 (Hammontree) will use up his eligibility in 2017. So, there is the potential of having 4 of 5 starters back for 2018.

For my money, the position that needs added depth is DT. The two recruits above both look great, but almost certainly will RS. I wouldn't be surprised if they move one or more of the FR O-lineman to the other side of the ball.

Hopefully, there is at least one more OL and DT recruit still out there ready to commit.

Commit:

James Ellis/Blessed Trinity HS (GA)/DT/6'2"-250#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/4323060/james-ellis

There is he is...the other DT I was looking for. This looks like a great pickup as well. All-State in GA. Great pad level and motor. Welcome to the Flyer family.

Commit:

Jack Ilewski/DeSmet Jesuit HS (MO)/WR-FS/6'0"-183#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3286139/jack-ilewski

He looked very good on both sides of the ball, but I'm guessing he's a future safety. Whichever side he ends up on, he definitely looks like a FB player. Welcome to the Flyer family.

Love this kid's Hudl highlights. Great coverage skills and closing speed. Also, doesn't seem to have a problem holding the edge on run plays. Has the potential to see time as a true freshman. Welcome to the Flyer family.

Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3863249/justin-herold

Another great looking DT for the Flyers. A run-stuffer that can also get after the QB. Had one play where he chased down a RB 30 yards past the line of scrimmage. Welcome to the Flyer family.

S/Flyr-4 (Kroos, Easterling, Cook, Ilewski)
OL-3 (Schell, Bart, Moore)
WR-4 (Bickett, Frazier, Byrne, Fleming)

As in past years, 1-2 commits may role in after tomorrow. Even if not, this looks like a great class. Coaches seem to have prioritized speed. The class also addresses the depth
issues at DT and CB. The only (mild) surprises are that the class at this point only includes one LB and one QB.

NEOFlyer 02-01-2017 11:53 AM

First, I want to thank Flyer Illini for all the updates on the recruits.

Secondly, being signing day it seems awfully quite on the recruit front for Dayton. I also came across a second player that was offered by Dayton who accepted a walk-on offer at Ohio State. It will definitely a tough road for those two players. We wish them well.

Lastly, it seems that this group of recruits seems to be solid group and well rounded. It will be interesting to watch them the next few years

GO FLYERS!!!

FlyerIllini 02-01-2017 12:43 PM

Neo: Thanks, happy to do it. As for your comment on it being quiet, I agree. Here's what was tweeted on the Dayton FB twitter account early this morning:

Make sure you visit @DaytonFootball for retweets and other information on Signing Day '17! #GoFlyers

It's now early afternoon in Dayton...and not a single tweet. Meanwhile, Drake and other PFL programs are tweeting their "signings" with cool videos of the recruits. The Flyers need to step-up their game on social media.

NEOFlyer 02-01-2017 04:49 PM

Here is Chambo's update on the recruiting class. Thirty-three recruits. We have to look for more kids from Ohio.

http://daytonflyers.com/news/2017/2/...ay-update.aspx

FI -- Chambo notes 12 Ohio recruits. Add five to the Ohio total and that's a total of 34 recruits??

FlyerIllini 02-01-2017 05:33 PM

Neo: Not sure what happened, but one of the CB recruits I listed above (Cameron Deen) apparently committed to Georgetown. So, that makes 28 that we've identified. If the Chambo video is accurate about 12 recruits from Ohio, that would bring the total to 33.

I do note that the article that accompanies the Chambo video says that there are 8 recruits from Ohio. Of course, the first sentence of the article says that the Flyers have "27 wins in the last two seasons," so there appears to be a proof-reading issue. I'll keep looking for additional Ohio recruits.

Here is some info and a quote from Justin after he signed. You made a good choice Justin

Herold was also looking at the University of Ashland and Findlay.

“It really took me a long time to come to the decision,” Herold said. “I literally only decided yesterday about 12 o’clock. The big thing with me was that I wanted to go to this place where I could have an ah-hah moment. I wanted things to be just right both academically and athletically.”

The Flyers were 9-2 last year and generally are near the top of their conference. In recent years, several football Eagles have migrated to Dayton.

“One of those guys has been Ben Gauthier,” Herold said. “He talked to me about it. He told me he loved it so much. He was a big help to me in deciding.”

This year Herold recorded 75 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six and a half sacks, two forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.

Can't believe I didn't find this one sooner. I'm assuming he's related to current Flyer Adam Trautman (brother? cousin?). Looks like a very good athlete and I suspect he was recruited as a LBer. Can't have too many versatile athletes. Welcome to the Flyer family.

Edit: Alec is the brother of current Flyer TE, Adam. I also understand that he's being recruited as an H-back (see, Alex Kenner).

Looks to project as a safety. Looks like an effort type kid.

Welcome to Dayton

Unclear if he is being recruited at a DE or TE. Based on his highlights, I would guess DE. Either way, he looks like a great addition. Welcome to the Flyer family.

Absolutely love this kid's highlights. Was on a state championship team and made a couple of big hits to help win the game, including a hit that forced a fumble and TD. He's a hard-hitting safety, but may bulk up a little and end up at the Flyer position. Another great pickup from a program that's been very good to the Flyers. Welcome to the Flyer family.

He also played CB, but I'm assuming he was recruited as a QB. Looks to be a very good athlete. He has a quick release and very good accuracy. Welcome to the Flyer family.

A new commit:

Jake Brunson/Pope HS (GA)/OT-DT/6'3"-275#
Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3922070/jacob-brunson

Another big body added to the mix. Although he looked like a road-grader at OT, I suspect he was recruited as a DT. That's an area of need, so he'll have alot of opportunity. Welcome to the Flyer family.
