If I understand the RPI correctly, playing conference only matches will result in a net .500 record for all the teams. Normally, the B1G would win 70-80% of non-conference matches and thus boost the RPI of the entire conference. That cannot happen with conference only matches. If every conference played only conference matches all conferences would have net .500 records. This would make for an interesting NCAA selection show.
