The 4th ranked team
in Europe looked better than that Saturday in Finland where they handled the Helsinki Wolverines 52-36.
In 1st half, Calanda scored easily on long runs or passes. Helsinki struggled for 2-TD. Was surprised with effort the Finns gave later.
Halftime score was 35-14. The first play of 2nd half was a long TD run by Broncos but it was called back for a 5 yd penalty. Then with 9:40 to play in Q-3, a lateral pass to Steve Valentino ended up a rain-maker pass to his open DJ Wolfe for a TD, 42-14.
Then the superior team fumbled twice & had an intentional penalty losing cool.Helsinki scored but 2-point try failed, 42-20 Broncs.
The first play of Q-4 was a reverse handoff to Valentino, then running right, he faked a dbl reverse handoff & threw a 35 yard laser to DJ Wolfe making score 49-20.
Helsinki made it 49-28....Now with 7:50 to play, Valentino took over at QB & after some runs, they kicked a FG. 52-28
Wolverines had last score again at 3;19 for the final 52-36
Helsinki would not KO or punt to Valentino - always short. They tried two onside KO late but Valentino was on the first line of All-Hands team. He held for all placekicks and his name was the only word (except Red Zone) that I understood on the audio coverage. Great video, no commercials, probably 4-5 cameras. Oh, if only UD could...Amen.
Two Sunday games with Swiss opponents & then off on Saturday 5-26 to Graz-Eggenberg to play the Graz Giants in the Euro Bowl 1/4 finals! Broncos have a positive +59 points which somehow decides something. One thing for sure, this Swiss offense isn't afraid to show trick plays with the talent they have! They are 21st Century!
