January-February

These will be big months for UD volleyball. This is typically the time of year a lot of top recruits verbal. I believe we have FIVE scholarships for 2011. I would think we would start to hear some verbal commitments to fill those scholarships. UD and the coaches won't be able to comment on these players because NCAA rules don't allow that until they are actually signed, but "word gets out". I have a membership to Rich Kern's website that tracks this. I'll start watching it on a more regular basis. If anyone has a membership to PrepVolleyball -- that's another site that posts verbals.

Also, I would think we might pick up 1-2 other recruits for 2010. We don't really "need" anyone for next year, but usually there are one or two players that commit during this time period.

January also brings the post-season banquet. I've never attended, but several parents of past and current players say it's a very nice event the university puts on for the team. With this past year's accomplishments it should be extra special and full of excitement and anticipation for next season. This is the first UD team to finish the season ranked nationally in the AVCA.

Last year the 2008 highlight video was shown at the banquet and then posted on the daytonflyers website. It was very good. I can't wait to see this year's version. I enjoyed the SLU clips last year because it seemed like the SLU players were always falling on the floor when we scored a point. But in the back of my mind I knew those were just the battles we won. SLU won the wars. I'm sure I'll enjoy this year's SLU clips even more since we won the war both times. I'd love to see the final point of the A-10 Championship when the ball lands out of bounds in front of Red Scare, but my guess is that tape is owned by CBS College Sports. Maybe they'll get permission to use it???

Any other memorable moments from this past year's home matches you think should make the highlight video?

Also, it will be a nice event to give Chelsey a final farewell. Her and Lindsay are the only two UD players to ever play in 3 NCAA tournaments. I believe they have both played in 5 NCAA tournament matches and have a 2-3 record. This is how you move programs forward. It takes players like Chelsey who come in, work hard, get better and exceed expectations to grow a program.

Congrats Chelsey on a great career at UD and thanks for your contributions!

One that comes to mind very quickly are the final points in game number three against St Louis. I was watching the body language of the St Louis players and really felt if we won game three there was an excellent chance of winning the match.

The final points of comeback game 5 win versus Xavier were great to witness for a UD fan.

There were a lot of memorable plays, some great pancakes and saves. Tiffany had a couple of serves that were highlight material.

I believe that every hitter had at least one match winning point or at least game winning point, Becky had more than her share of these. It might be cool to see something like "Game Winning Points"
