Linky Goodness

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) –- Perhaps the greatest side benefit of the internet age is the ability to post links, allowing even a techno idiot like me to share cool stuff that I have stumbled upon from the web instantaneously. Par example, as the French say:

-- Former UD Assistant Coach Reggie Rankin with some fresh, hot-off-the-presses love for BRob on ESPN.com:

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog...e%3dncbexperts

-- Don’t know how long this will stay up on You Tube, but let’s enjoy it while we can, shall we, courtesy of UDPride MB poster jonji:

-- This highlight package, not so much:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=T2GqhpfliBs

-- Hard to believe that it’s been 13 years since “Calvin and Hobbes” disappeared from the comics section. Here’s a link to every “C&H” ever published:

http://torvalds.cs.mtsu.edu/~zach/calvin_hobbes/

-- The end of the year means it’s time for Fark’s annual vote for the “2007 Headline of the Year” award and we’ve got the link:

http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comm...k=3301587&ok=1

My personal favorite is the “Play on Words” category –- here are the top nominees:

-- Akron may have (just barely) lost to UD, but their mascot, Zippy the Kangaroo, has been chosen #1 in the land:

“Fear the Roo” indeed.

-- What do R & L Carriers, Petrosun, Valero, Roady’s, Brut, Meineke, Pacific Life and the San Diego County Credit Union have in common? They all sponsored college football bowl games this year! R & L Carriers? That’s a freakin’ trucking company based down off of I-71 in Wilmington, Ohio for cryin’ out loud. What are they doing sponsoring a bowl game?

-- UD got some absolutely amazing press after knocking off #6 Pitt. My esteemed editor Chris Rieman put together screen grabs of all the websites that featured the Flyers:

I especially like the ones with my guy Devin Searcy’s picture on them.

-- In case you missed it, Rod Beard of the Detroit News did this deluxe piece on Future Flyer Paul Williams:

I already have January 22nd circled on my calendar, ‘cause that’s when PW and his Renaissance buddies have their rematch with Henry Ford HS. PW went for 31 in the two teams’ first meeting. I’ll be there for Act II.

-- Paul’s RHS teammate junior Delano Collins has been the PG there since his freshman year, but he’ll probably wind up playing football in college instead of hoops. Here’s his profile and some video of him at WR:

http://michiganpreps.rivals.com/view...1&pr_key=73875

-- The biggest difference I see with this Flyer team is recognition: Kurt’s pass to MJ for a wide open layup vs. Pitt; LW’s two back door cuts for layups in the 2nd OT, LW’s lob to MJ for a lay-in and Binnie’s alley oop for a dunk to Charles vs. Akron are several examples. The guys all just seem to have much better court awareness and are able to react.

-- Was it just me or did the highlight package that they showed on “College Game Night” on ESPN immediately after the Akron game look like it was prepared for a Zips’ upset victory? It was virtually all video of Akron scoring and coming out of it Karl Ravitch said, in a rather confused manner “and Akron, ah, rather, Dayton wins it 83-81.”

-- I said it in the Akron game thread on the MB and I’ll repeat it here: the emergence of Kurt Huelsman offensively reminds me an awful lot of the awakening Sean Finn underwent, which also transpired during his second year with the Flyers.

-- Back on December 2nd in an FTS entitled “Thinking Out Loud” I had written the following:

“Nice to see X rated in the Top 25, so it will mean more when we knock ‘em off.”

After the tables were recently turned and UD was ranked and X wasn’t, MM MB poster PicknRoll wrote:

“I hope Dayton continues to win until we spank them here on January 24. What a rockin' place Cintas will be that night!”

But of course in their eyes, no, of course not, UD hasn’t passed Eggsavior as a program.

-- Memo to Andres Sandoval and Charles Little for the upcoming Top 25 showdown with Rhody:

“DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, FOUL JIMMY BARON WHEN HE IS SHOOTING A THREE POINT BASKET. THAT IS ALL.”

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
