UDs Top 40 2020 recruiting class just got better. Horsmon & company just added a 6’2” Setter. Aspen Aldous from Gilbert, AZ.

Aldous had great junior and senior years including leading her high school to the 6A State Championship last Nov and All-State First Team honors. She was also one of the 65 best prep setters in the country as a finalist for the National Setter of the Year award given out by PrepVolleyball during her junior year.
Her high school coach said the following about her setter enroute to that state Championship...
“Aspen efficiently ran a fast 5-1 offense and was equally aggressive with her attack on the second ball and defense along the net.”
Aspen was also named a prepvolleyball High Honorable Mention All-American in 2019 (her junior year). There are 150 AAs, 75 Highest Honorable Mention - of which Alayna Yates was listed as a junior, and 125 High Honorable Mentions. Yates ended up as the #51 Recruit her senior year and headlines this recruiting class.
This looks like a player who may have slipped through the cracks and could be a big win for UD. She did have campus visits scheduled, but all got cancelled due to the coronavirus -as did her club season after two months. Aspen was highlighted in prepvolleyball’s court side reports because she was performing well at some of the early Jan-Feb club tournaments before the clubs shut down.
With two 5’10” setters on the roster, it’s good to add a 6’2” player. I fully expect Bridget to be running a 5-1 offense when the season starts. But if Aspen comes in and works her behind off, there is opportunity here to make contributions in her first year. TH will play the best combination of players. He doesn’t care if you’re a Top 50 Recruit or a walk-on. If you earn it, you will play.
