A10 Week of Fri 10/14

Mason takes set 1 off GW 25-23. If GW loses this match I could say they might be done for the A10 and not make the tournament. I haven't looked into why because everyone thought they would challenge SLU for 2nd place. They are 0-6 going into this match. Neither team hitting anything -- both under .115 for the set.

Wow. After falling behind 0-2, GW had a come to Jesus meeting and storms back to win 3-2. It was a good day for UDs rpi. The teams we needed to win, won. Anyone we play twice, we need to win. And if two teams we play twice are playing each other, we need the team with the best w-l record to win and the team with the best SOS TH win.

Two matches today (Sun) should be really good. SLU at VCU and RI vs DUQ. These teams are 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the conference standings.

Biggest news in the A10 this weekend was SLU going 2-0 AND they got their injured OH back (Okoro). She didn't hit that great, but she dug a ton of balls - 10 in a 3 set match and 16 in a 4 set match. If she can stay healthy, watch for SLU to finish strong in the A10. They could be dangerous come tournament time.

SLUs Nenye Okoro is a junior. She started both her freshman and sophomore years. She has played UD 5 times in those first 2 years. She averaged 3.42 kills/set and 3.1 digs/set. Both of those are excellent stats for a freshman-sophomore. And, she is going to make Rygelski even more dangerous. They play opposite each other. That means one more threat to attack on the court at all times - one in the front and one in the back. You can't cheat as much to cover Rygelski once Okoro gets going as a hitter. She wasn't great hitting this weekend, but I don't expect that to be the case in a couple weeks when we have to play them again.
