Richmond may be the team to beat right now. They are 4-0, and blew Bonnie away. Big game at UD next week.

Bonnie's played without Adams . That's like us playing without SS. Won't win many.
Don't think UR had really beaten anyone of consequence yet.

Richmond seems to play their best against us. And Cline would be an All American if he played every game like he does against us. I look for this to be a tough game!

We should celebrate the day. Ain't going to be many days where VMI and Austin Peay win on the same day.
(I'm not ashamed to admit I watched the end of the VMI game on ESPN3 - they missed the front end of a 1-and-1 but sealed the deal with a block on the other end as time expired. Go Keydets.)

A very surprising night of college hoops. Rhode Island did beat UC earlier this year, which is a strong win considering UC is on pace to win the AAC. What's going on for Rhodey? Did Matthews not play? Or did they also suffer a performance let down like our Flyers?
I was convinced Rhode Island would be the team to beat this year in the A-10, guess that's why you play the games!

Rhody was at full strength...just appeared to be going through the motions. At one point early in 2nd half Hurley did yank all 5 starters. I almost shed a tear...almost.

Haha looks like Hurley's players did not respond well to him throwing them under the bus after the Dayton loss. Moron.

Gosh, UD would savor the opportunity to play with only one active player playing below par. Pick Pollard, Cooke, Kostas, and even Steve at 3/4 speed and give me the other 3. Would love to have seen Steve handle that lard as* center UMass has.
Every team has somebody partially impaired.
With the full deck above, I believe we would be 15-1 with the only loss to UCLA in Anaheim.
No sympathy for URI.

The brothers Juan and Tu Bid are calling the A10 league office as I type this.
UD and VCU have to find a way to separate from the pack because it's not looking good at this point.

Watched a bit of that Northwestern beat-down of Iowa. I realize it was Iowa - not a great team - but they ripped the Hawkeyes a new one.

Creighton lost their PG Maurice Watson to a knee injury. Non-contact and he said he heard it pop, so not looking good for him. Kid's a heck of a player - leads the country averaging nearly 9 assists per game. Creighton will likely struggle big time without him.

Maybe they will struggle without him, but maybe they will not struggle without him...he went down in the first half, and they still won in Cincinnati...CU is the first team to ever win 3 games at the Cintas Center...3 game losing streak for X.

New Mexico wins at Boise State 81-70. Lobos almost did it again. Had 18 point lead at the half and Boise cut it to 2 with about 3 min left. Lobos hung on despite some unbelievable stupid plays in the last 90 seconds - half court bounce pass picked off, offensive rebound with 60 seconds left and immediate try for layup that was missed instead of running clock. Plays that blow games. This time at least the Lobos made their freebies - unlike against Nevada.

Sad to see what's become of the SLU program. In less than 5 years, they went from Top 25 to Dumpster Fire. That's Crews Control for you. Hopefully, Ford can resurrect that once-proud program. Time will tell.

Fordham 69 VCU 67 Final OT
Secretary: Atlantic 10 Conference Office. How may I help you?
Juan Bid: May I speak to Bernadette McGlade?
Secretary: Just one moment.
Bernadette: Hello this is Commissioner McGlade how can I help you Juan?
Juan Bid: I just wanted to call and let you know that with every passing game it looks like your conference is simply not very good this year and that you may only get one NCAA bid unless Dayton manages to win a whole lot of ball games and separates themselves from the rest of the disaster the conference has become.
Bernadette: Well thanks for that heads up Juan. It looks like things may be very interesting at the A10 tournament in Pittsburgh.

Sure looked like Williams of tOSU got away with a push on the game-winning bucket. Also, the Nebraska defender left Loving wide open under the basket on that inbounds play. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

The NCAA doesn't give hall passes to teams from the A10. They give hall passes to Syracuse and other Power 5 teams.

Fordham has a much more competent coach than UMass. Neubauer has a system that worked at EKU and can work in the A10. The question is if he can convince enough good players to come to Fordham to succeed in the Atlantic 10.
On the other hand Kellogg is a master at squandering the highly recruited guys he gets. If I were UMass I would fire him ASAP since things haven't gotten any better in the 9 years he has been there. Not calling a timeout to set up a baseline inbounds plays with 5.7 seconds left while down 1 today with a very young team was simply coaching malpractice.

Duke is getting handled at home by Miami. 36-25 at halftime. Duke has appeared to be in complete disarray most of the year and they are absolutely not a "True Team" from the comments Kennard and other players have made.
I think it's high time Luke transfers back home to a successful basketball team. Heck I bet Archie could get him enrolled on Monday so that he could play the second semester next year!
EDIT: And now Jeff Capel has benched Kennard to start the 2nd half. Benching your best player may be why he got fired at Oklahoma. Come on Luke come back to Dayton.

So Duke came out and blew out Miami in the 2nd Half. I still think Luke should come home!

George Mason up double digits on Richmond.
This is our year to just run away with the league title. Sure we might lose at VCU, but other than that, we shouldn't have more than 3 total conference losses this year.

I will. Richmond isn't really very good as they proved in their non conference games.

Their record was achieved with smoke and mirrors when viewed with their RPI and SOS. They are basically a one-trick pony.

Debbie Yow should extend Gottfried's contract immediately!
But in all seriousness the Wolfpack looked pretty good. The freshman PG Smith looked like the real deal but he will be gone after this year anyway by all reports.

True road games against an opponent that knows you well are the hardest to win. A loss in that scenario is not worse than an early OOC neutral site game.

Bad loss for LaSalle tonight to Penn especially since it's a non-conference game. Hurts their RPI and accordingly everyone else's resume that beat them.

Given that UD plays SLU twice and UMass once, I would think a SLU win would be relatively good news. I think you can forget about UMass as a top 100 opponent: as that ship has likely sailed.

A10
GW 87 @ George Mason 68
Penn 77 @ LaSalle 74
Richmond 73 v. URI 62
SLU 74 v. UMass 70
SLU, UMass, and Duquesne tied at the bottom of the A10 standings. SLU attempted 55 free throws in the game, making 39... over half their points from the line. What the crap. 64 total fouls called in the game, UMass had one guy foul out, and 6 others finish with 4 fouls. SLU only played 7 players, and had one foul out with 4 others finish with 4 fouls. That game sounds like it took 4 hours.

Alabama's low RPI is a little surprising to me...5-2 in the SEC. I know they played us at home obviously and played at Oregon, surprised with all of that it's so bad. I was hoping that could be a top 50 win.

Problem is, they played 6 schools that are projected to finish somewhere around 200 or worse in the RPI. If the win the games they are suppose to going forward they'll head to the SEC championship with 18 wins, which will put them somewhere around 75th in the RPI. With guys like Ken Pomeroy and the guy that founded KPI presenting and talking about advanced data to the NCAA and specifically acknowledging their belief that a top 75 road win is roughly equal to a top 25 home win, that may play well into UD's favor in that game

Creighton has the opportunity to be a very interesting case. They were cruising prior to their starting PG getting hurt (he's out for the year for those unaware after getting hurt in the first half vs Xavier), then they get beat at home vs Marquette and get the doors blown off at G'town. They have a tough schedule moving forward, 2 "sure wins" over a terrible DePaul team, then G'town, SJU & Providence give them an opportunity for 1-3 more home wins, however, they appear to be looking at 5+ losses closing out. Lets say the win 4 more games going forward, 2 against DePaul which does nothing for them then 2 at home vs G'town, SJU and Providence. That would give them a an RPI in the mid 30s but no real signature wins post injury. They have some solid wins OOC, a great win at home over Wisconsin, no bad losses, and not many opportunities for bad losses moving forward.

We were excluded when Chris Wright was injured. I wonder if the same criteria would apply to a BE school.

We also went 8-8 in the a10 that year. There have been times where I've complained about the committee as well (most notably the play in 2 years ago) but 8-8 in the a10 with some of the losses we took is not a good look for an at large.

Interesting case with Creighton indeed but not the same as the UD/ Chris Wright situation.
Other than it's RPI by itself, the Flyers overall resume was not tourney worthy. It may have been before Wright got hurt but not the overall resume. I think we were 8-8 in conference with some bad losses.
What I think Medford is saying is that prior to the injury, their resume was fine and overall without knowing when the games were played, the resume is tourney worthy but if you looked at the resume after the injury, it would not be tourney worthy.
I think the committee has said it doesn't really matter when the games are played and who was playing in them. They got rid of the last 10 games criteria. Was it last year or the year before with Wichita St. They had early losses when dealing with injuries. Their resume was borderline and they got a high seed but were dangerous. That is the problem with not looking at the team (with healthy/injured players) that will be in the tourney. The team that had to play Wichita St was playing a team better than their seeding. The opposite could possibly happen depending on how a team like Creighton was seeded.

Yes but we only had 1 loss prior to the injury IIRC and he was "healthy" and ready to play in the NCAA tournament.

SLU played really, really hard last night. I was surprised they won with 18 turnovers. I set the barometer of a SLU loss at more than 15 turnovers. Another issue with the game was the number of fouls called, for both teams. 38 for UMass and 26 for SLU for a combined 86 free throws (55 for SLU school record).
I can't recall ever seeing anything like it before. I challenge anyone to find a game last night that even comes close to those kinds of statistics. Or a game this season.

[QUOTE=priceg75;481925] 01/26/17
A10
GW 87 @ George Mason 68
Penn 77 @ LaSalle 74
Richmond 73 v. URI 62
SLU 74 v. UMass 70
In both a good and bad way these are shocking results. Not good for the A10 as a whole, but all the slobbering talking heads couldn't say enough about URI, LaSalle, UMass , GM, just a few months ago. We are clearly the best in the pack, but we can't let down against any of them.
And the demeaning talk about the SLU program may want to be on hold until after we get past them in St. Louis. That is the ultimate trap game after the results above and embarrassment they endured in the Arena.

He didn't play in the first round and was not 100% vs Ohio state. Hard to argue he would have been any different in NCAA tournament games. One potential big difference is that ud lost a handful of games too poor teams down the stretch that season, we will see what creighton does, it could make for an interesting case

What if they finish the season going 5-6 or 4-7 including a loss in first round of BE tourney? Maybe qualify for a trip to Dayton?

Winthrop holds on after blowing a huge lead. Tonight could be good for us. A Nebraska/Northwestern game the doesn't matter, and very winnable games for Peay, Portland, and Saint Mary's.

Cincinnati beats X 86 - 78. Bluiett scored 40 points for X. X will drop out of top 25 as they were sitting at 24 before the game.

Dayton mens and womens teams sit in first place all alone for at least one more day.
SLU beat GW 67 -59.
Both sole possession of 1st place. Destiny is in our hands. Go Flyers!

And, Rhode Island defeated Cincinnati, and we defeated Rhide Island. Just saying.
