UD needs to seriously rethink the way they are doing things in order to get students to the games. Sold out crowd on a Saturday afternoon...plenty of time to party at 430 after the game. Embarrassing really...fighting for a conference title and that's the best they can do. Tuesday's excuse will be they have classes at night and the next morning...

I sat next to the student section. If I could figure out how to post a pic from my phone, you would see they were well represented and LOWD.

I went to every home game and many away games as a student. And I attended UD during the only 4 years since WW2 that the Flyers made zero post season tournaments, fall of 1990 to spring of 1994.
Lack of student attendance with a top 30 program is pathetic. St. Mary's, in the Bay Area, has had much better student attendance with a much smaller student body.

I've sat next to them every home game for the last 7 seasons sans 3 games....I know what a packed 100 and 2 200's look like....The students that are there do participate and do make for a hell of a home crowd advantage...with that said...there are more people in the 200 student section than there ever has been that aren't students...15 minutes prior to tip it was barren...at the half it was peppered with people, many of which aren't students.
You want to see a packed student section for comparison, you will have to go back years...in particular rivalry games. That is the measuring stick for a loyal and packed student section...not looking at it from the "it's better than it has been" perspective.

With supposedly a diverse student population I do not see many "students of color" in the stands.

Hope they show up for George Mason... as I see that " Red Scare" is singing the National Anthem tonight.

Give them until 4:00 on game day to secure their seats. At that time, they can be had by the general public for fair price. Butts in seats - that's the name of the game for a Top 25 venue.

How was the turnout vs Mason?
Also I went and read the VCU thread that started from our thread here. Apparently they have a student ticket lottery/pickup that ends a day or two before the game occurs. Any tickets that are not claimed by the students at that point are then put up for sale to the general public. They seem to have the same issues with getting students to show up but at least they get the tickets sold.

"Quality, not quantity" would describe last night's student turnout. 108 was full as usual, and the Pep Band darned near filled 109. But there were more people over the age of 30 than under it in 212 & 213. I know the University is trying to find ways to get those Sections filled for these last games, but it's probably "too little, too late" as far as getting the student body there is concerned.

Students were there and were lowd...moreso than vs Bonnies. Some folks here need to quit splitting hairs about student participation given the setup they are presented with (festival seating, get there an hour early, etc). I watched NUMBER 9 Baylor play last night...the entire upper half of the arena was empty and there were no more students there than at our game last night. Number 9 in the country folks!

C-Time...much better. Prior to tip off, the 109 was filled with band, 108 was full of students, and 212 and 213 had the first 2.5 rows with students. At the half, a few more students scattered in, but many of the seats were filled with last minute sales to non-students.
The ones that are there are having fun and are getting after it. Many of the seats in 212 and 213 that go get their later because they are non-season ticket holders using shuttle. Up close, the 200's might be 2/3 full.

Actually 212/213 back rows were filled with people from the upper deck. I know because I sit in 409, row G, and they were up there handing out tickets to fill the lower bowl. My son went down there to sit. I did not, because I actually want to sit during the game, not stand the whole game, because I am old.

Also, if students claim tickets and don't use them twice, they can no longer claim tickets for that season. This forces students who claim tickets to go to the game, transfer them to another student, or return them to the ticket office in advance of the games.

That makes sense for it to be empty then full once the game tipped off.

Something that should be noted before this thread gets perpetuated after the VCU game March 1st...UD spring break begins after classes that day. Students will be heading out ASAP Weds, if not sooner. Don't know how this factors into UD selling any tickets to the general public, but will likely impact student turnout.

So it sounds like the students showed up at about the same rate as they have been for the past few games. It's nice that the ticketing people go up to upper arena to get people to fill the seats, but that isn't the same as selling them. As for the VCU game it doesn't sound promising that they will fill it up so I guess I will just sit there myself.
Hopefully in the offseason they reevaluate how the tickets are distributed to the students. A reserved seating system where the unclaimed tickets could be purchased by the general public seems like the best idea at this point. I still like the idea of selling one(or both)of the two 200 sections as season tickets to young alumni/people who are willing to stand and cheer that was mentioned earlier in this thread.

Not that I think it's going to make much of difference tonight, but the students are on the Spring Break after their last class today. Hopefully, all the die hard students will stick around for the game.

My #3 child is a senior at UD and he said quite a few students stuck around today to go to the game so there may be a bigger turnout than expected.
