Just a Matter of Time

This doesn’t surprise me. I figured it was just a matter of time before really tall high school girls started playing setter instead of a hitter position. I see where Minnesota has a 6’3” setter commitment for 2020. That’s the tallest setter I have seen so far. 6’1” setters have became more common the last couple years. UD has had Brooke at 6’2” playing setter part time.

MN also has the first two 2022 recruits committed and listed on Rich Kern. One is a 6’7” MB to add to their 6’3”, 6’4”, and 6’5” MBs. It’s crazy.

I think Stanford recruited a 6'6" high school setter several years ago, but converted her to an OH. Stanford won a national championship with her sometime in the last three years.

Will get name soon.

I did not know Plummer was a setter in high school. If my memory is correct (suspect these days), Stanford won the national championship when Plummer was a freshman and they also had a freshman setter - Jenna Gray who is over 6’ tall. Both will be Juniors this fall and will be in their second year under former Illinois head coach Kevin Hamby who took the Stanford job this past year after their long-time coach retired.

Also of note, Hamby hired Tyler Friedrich as his strength/ conditioning guy. Tyler is a UD alum - both undergrad and grad degrees. He played football at UD. And he married UD volleyball alum Rachel Broerman. So I followed Stanford last year and wish them well.
