A bad start, Jenna has the ball stolen, Harris wandering around does not guard her person and Grant misses three layups.

Good move by Greene, as she benches Harris immediately for her poor effort.

Does UD always try to box out so long? They box out to the point that nobody bothers to go get the ball. It's a nice drill to do in practice to tell players to box out until the ball hits the floor, but that's practice.

Yes, and it is irritating how the player never turns even when the ball is right behind them. The dumbest thing ever.

Come on Flyers. Don't worry bout refs or other distractions. Take care of what YOU can control.

Our defense in the first quarter was terrible. 22 points on 47% shooting will not win.

Great D in that quarter, as they scored only 7 points on 18% shooting. We have only two turnovers. Ahead in rebounds. If we can improve our shot selection, it is ours.

The smile on Kelley's face after that 3 was a highlight of the year for me. Just because of what she's been through - twice - and how she's risen above. So happy for her.

Just glue SGA to the elbow and let her keep taking that shot. No sense bothering to post her up low since she's not finding a way to tap it into the cup.

Great to see the Flyers work to their largest lead with that 7-0 run. Wish I saw some of that defense during the first half of yesterday's men's game.

Most impressive stat, only 4 turnovers. Under Jabir, we had a few players that did that many each game. Love the way Greene teaches fast pace, and keep it under control.

Those are some might happy women. Great job! After that first quarter they put the pedal down and never let up.

Our POY in the A10 with 20 pts and great D, Layfield with 15 pts and 9 rebounds, Grant with 14 and 11.

It's been a tough season to watch but couldn't have had a better way to end Coach Green's first regular season. Now we just sit and wait to see where we are seeded for the big dance!

Who votes for this? Media? Other coaches? A-10 officials? Being objective, is there any possibility the LaSalle coach deserves that award over SG?

Scholarships

Are any still available for next year in case a decent player is still uncommitted?

Extra treat to be able to see MVP and individual awards - along with Coach Green's interview - on CBSSN. Thanks, Flyers, for not only winning but winning in record time.

There are at least three scholarships available for next year and I think it is more than that. After this great run I will be surprised if they don't bring in one or two good players for next year.

I agree, so many times the game ends and there aren't even comments. It was great to see the celebration

Say what you want about the teams in the past but what this team did was amazing. Likey the best player on the team doesn't even get a chance to suit up and the coach leaves 15 minutes before the season starts. They start off 3-6 and it looks like the world is coming to an end. Then they start believing in themselves and start winning. Then the point guard goes down and all they do is continue to win. These women can be proud of what they have accomplied when everyone had given up on them.

If you watch the video I posted in the top post, note Kelley...when I saw her I thought she was loose and ready to go.

Did a great job of ball security today, but we average 15.3 TOs @66ppg pace. Thats too many for that speed, along with a -1.8 TO ratio. We had 18 TOs yesterday vs SLU.

As John said though, gotta tip your hat to the players and staff for overcoming massive adversity in every direction. Nothing came easy this year. Lost maybe the best player in the conference to health issues, 3-6 start with 2-3 games literally thrown away, injuries to both PGs, Kelley trying to effective on 2 repaired knees, late coaching change draping the entire narrative.

Nobody denies the A10 was down this year, but nobody gifted it to the Flyers. We could have folded like a tent but gutted it out.

If you ask me when the season changed, it was when Macioce hit the trey vs SBU to win it with a second to go.

Great game - great team. I'm so happy to see the smiles on their faces. They truly deserve the accolades. They have been so much fun to follow this year.

Here's to more success in the ncaa! Congrats from a big fan!!!!

Congrats to the ladies on winning both the regular season and A-10 tourney championships.

While Shauna Green wasn't on my list to replace Jabir (had forgot about her) I was totally in agreement with her hire and knew she would continue the success of past flyer teams. Never doubted her for a moment when so many had questions regarding this years team.

What Shauna Green accomplished with this years team is truly amazing especially considering her late entry into the program. But she was right for the job. There might have been higher profile coaches that many considered for the job but she was the right fit. Knew the players and recruited many of them.

What she accomplished in her first year took JJ years to achieve. Granted JJ started with a bare cupboard but even as he built the program they lacked one highly needed quality.....toughness. This years teams was all about toughness and believing in one another. How far will they go in the NCAA tournament is anyone's guess but I wouldn't count them out.

I like Shauna's approach, don't worry about anything but the game you are playing, and be the best team on the court that night.

It is so obvious that Kelley just loves talking about herself and how good she is! For those of you with no sense of humor I AM JOKING Her team first attitude makes you admire her even more.

great to see layfield have a good day. i think she has worked hard to improve and she still has the ability to further improve next year

Great comments from their coach, very classy

many thanks for the pep band send off video, that was awesome. how can that reporter say Kelley isn't demonstrative????

At 3-6 early in the season - with a couple of ghastly losses where we squandered huge leads - I was wondering if this season would be a repeat of last year's mediocre season. Could Green coach was a question many of us had.

Then, after 11 days off, we go to Florida and kick Texas A&M all over the floor. I remember the look on A&M coach Gary Blair's face during the game. He had no answer and could not believe his Aggies were getting torched so badly by this terrible team from Dayton. Yes, that looked like a decent win, but nobody knew at the time how good or bad either team was. We look back now and the Aggies are a top 25 team - and the Dayton loss is their worst loss of the season. That was the start I think.

Then, Macioce hits the trey against SBU - and now ugly losses are turning into close wins. Things are looking up. We go 19-3 from A&M until today. Had we lost today, would we have made the tournament? My own thought was that yesterday's win over SLU put us in the tournament. However, we would have been around a 40 RPI with a loss today and at that spot I would not want to put my fate in the hands of the NCAA committee gods.

The answer to the Green question - Yes, I think she can coach. She has now won as many A-10 tournament titles as JJ. Next question - can she recruit?

Can she recruit, silly question since she was recruiting coordinator for Jabir.

Personally I think there is something magical about Shauna. A nice sweet 16 run would be nice.

Bracketology has us at 10 in one and a 9 in two others. Frankly rather have the 10 than 9. At 9 when we win we get the top seed. Rather beat the 2 seed from the 10 spot...then we can tackle the others till we meet the 1 seed.

Go Flyers.

my immediate reaction after her hire was that I was hoping for a 'wow factor' that would help recruiting. After hearing her first press conference she had the 'wow factor' because of her love of UD. That opens a ton of doors when recruiting. Imagine how the recruit felt knowing that Shauna passed up her hall of fame induction ceremony to speak with her!

She has now proven herself as a coach and well liked leader of great young women. I think recruiting is probably going well and a win or two in the ncaa tournament won't hurt.

This season was so important to show recruits that last year was just a bump in the road and better days are ahead.

Not sure I'd trade my own shot at the Sweet 16 for it. But if I'd rather have that shot than playing say Notre Dame, where I'm equally likely to lose.

I know Madeline Blais is not on the roster but did she get to make the trip to richmond. How is she recovering.

What should be interesting is the type of recruit Green targets now as the head coach. She was on staff for a number of the current players when they were recruited, but she was still recruiting to a "player type" based on Jabir's preference. He always had the final veto vote. Jabir wanted multi-positional players. Shooting the basketball was a huge priority for most players. Cornelie was 6-4 and a shot blocker, but could also shoot a mid-range. Malott another big with 3pt shooting. Sant worked down low, but also had an honest 3pt shot if you dared her. Hoover was a guard with inside/outside ability. Same with Deane. He really never recruited just shooters or just ball handlers or just aircraft carriers.

Now that Green has the veto, she may elect to go in a slightly different direction we dont know. Perhaps she wants more athleticism, more length, or more beef inside that is more prototypical "big". Maybe she eventually wants to press teams full court all game. I dont think the team or program has had a chance to adopt Green's own identity yet. They are still largely Jabir's outline from a personnel standpoint.

I will say Green constantly emphasizes defense in much of her pressers.

One thing I hope she doesnt back off on is non-conference scheduling. JJ was pretty fanatical about creating an early season gauntlet to toughen UD up. I think it paid off HUGE this year. I think Sloo did themselves a great disservice by playing a pattycake non-con schedule. When they faced us, they had not played to that level before.

When you make 7 NCAAs in 8 years, an Elite 8, A10 regular season and tourney titles, you must compare yourself to the Top-25 national programs and schedule accordingly. You are not going to get better by playing those below you or thinking the A10 is good enough to punch your ticket alone. You must schedule to earn an at-large bid even if you finish outside the Top-2 in the A10.

I look at UD's peers to be DePaul, Creighton, Temple, Marist, St. John's, Green Bay, South Florida, Purdue, Colorado State, Gonzaga, etc.

I did not see Blais in Richmond, but that doesnt mean she wasnt there. I think there may be travel restrictions for how many players you can send/dress to this league tourneys and maybe she was a casualty of that. She was on the Flyer bench for most of second semester. She is still thin, but she looks WAAAAAY better than she did 6 months ago. She's definitely added some weight. Its undeniable.

Uconn already destroyed us this year

Not likely we are ones to gain notoriety playing them early.

I am hoping Blais can play next year. It would be great for her and the team. It all comes down to whether the medication is working for her. I have mentioned before that my son is going through the same thing. As is true in about 30% of the cases of Colitis, the three available medications did not work for him, so he will have his colon and some intestine removed. You then have a colostomy bag, and recovery time is sixth months to a year. Would be hard for Blais to play if that happens. Here's hoping her meds are working. It can take a year, or more, to figure out if the meds are working.

This article on Rutgers women's basketball indicates the Big Ten doesn't allow teams to bring redshirt players to their conference tournament...so I assume the A10 takes a similar position.

http://www.nj.com/rutgersbasketball/...ers_looki.html

Stringer expressed disappointment that the Big Ten will not allow her to bring redshirting players in addition to her current roster on the trip. Rutgers' path to improvement next season starts with two-time All-Big Ten honoree Tyler Scaife's return as well as the addition of three transfers.

"I wish that the Big Ten allowed for those who can't play to come and (experience) the tournament atmosphere so they could evolve themselves," Stringer said. "It would help our overall team because so many of the people that will be playing a major role next year will not be there."

Chris I kinda got the impression Neil was very big and active in the non conference scheduling, if so he will continue the more tougher scheduling to allow for better RPI.

As for Blais it would be a blessing for her to be able to continue her playing career but her health is first and foremost.

I wonder if Blais is a red shirt. She is in a similar situation to Cunningham, sat out a transfer year and then illness this year. I thought it was said of Cunningham that they would have to apply for the 6th season waiver after the season ended.
Late August, Madeline told a friend of mine she had no interest in a red shirt. However she could have changed her mind since then because she was not able to play this year. It has been two years since she played in a game, and her body has endured so much, I think it's a long shot she plays next year.

Chris brings up a great point on the type of player that shauna might recruit. In addition to that I wonder if she will continue to recruit overseas we dont make the elite eight run without a center from France and we dont make the ncaa this year without a center from Canada. I would think this will continue since there should be contacts in place

Coach jabir started by recruiting athletic players that were willing to work hard at improving. I think you hope to find players that can already shoot but john wooden didn't care

I would love to see her play but not if there is any risk that it could aggravate her condition. She seemed to be enjoying the games and looked healthy which is most important. I wonder if she will have enough credits to graduate in the spring/summer

She sat on the bench for games. I didn't think a non player can do that, but don't know if the ncaa has rules on this stuff. She wasn't recognized on senior night was she?

It seems to me that if she is healthy, she still has eligibility. She didn't have to red shirt did she?

I hope she is healthy most important. Secondary is if she can and wants to, I hope she plays. If so, we might be pretty darned good next year.

Go Flyers

Blais played 3 years at Marist. She sat out a transfer year in 2015-16 and again this past year for health reasons. Eligibility normally ends after 5 years. She would need a special waiver to get a sixth year of eligibility. However, it would seem to me that one view of her videos would be very persuasive in that regard.

All that being said, her health issues have been - and are - pretty serious. It would be a minor miracle to see her on the court in a Flyer uniform next year. And if so, what skill level would she still have after being away from the game so long, plus all her health issues. I am not an expert on C-Diff, but it is not like an injury where you recover and start training again. It is more like a chronic condition that needs constant attention I think. That makes high level training more difficult.
