Where does UD stand in recruiting?

Just wondering how many scholarships the UD women's team has available for recruiting for the next couple of years? Hopefully Penn recommits because I think Shauna's offense will be very productive for a great three point shooter on the break and secondary break

Green and staff made several in-home visits in the last few days. Visited Breen for sure as well as a couple recruits in the south. They met w/one girl that has an offer from South Carolina.

In large part, Green's coaching acumen will be measured by how well she recruits. You win games between April and November as much as you win games on the hardwood between November and March by simply bringing in players that are better than what everyone else has. Then its your job to make them reach their potential.

Shauna and her staff have a lot of great selling points:

Shauna's passion for the program will be so obvious
Fast Paced Offensive Team - Ton of Fun and Opportunities
Great Program
Great Facilities
Great Support
Great Education Opportunities
Great Chance at early playing time
NCAA appearances

There are a lot of reasons that Shauna can be successful in these recruiting periods.

I know that I said there wasn't a wow factor when she was hired but when I see her passion I say "WOW" and it will be obvious to every recruit she speaks to

Oglesby decommitted on Twitter a few minutes ago. That's #2. We pretty much knew we'd lose most or all the verbals. This is par for the course. See Henton/Gibson, et al.

Feel bad for Shauna. She was put in a tough spot. Cannot pin it on her. She will have to make lemonade out of lemons. This will set us back probably 1-2 additional years however in the Green era build phase. Archie needed 2-3 years to overcome the same hole.

A bit over-dramatic considering she is a 2018 recruit and wouldn't be on campus for another two years.

The tougher nut right now is the 2017 class. We have six graduating and only one commit. We don't need six, but three very good ones in addition to Breen would help.

Shauna has to be careful not to bring in players who won't really help the program but she is smart enough to know that. I agree that three really good players would be a successful recruiting period

Shauna showing she can coach a top program with results will take care of the recruiting. If she is as successful as I hope she is they will be lining up.

Go Shauna, Go flyers. Good times ahead.

Taylor Mikesell recently committed to Maryland. Penn to Indiana. Forget Oglesby as well.

Looking at roster. Have a Frosh named Szabo. Is she a walk-on or late signee?

Recruiting - most will wait

I think our record and performance going into January and February will determine any second recruiting period commits.

I think our new head coach has no, or little, Division I head coaching experience so potential recruits will see how things go. They will know that there is still talent on the 2016-2017 roster.

Remember Amber Deane was a "late" second signing period signee.

While IU has been a historical poor performer they are on the upswing -- ranked 23 in ESPN's pre-season rankings and picked to finish 3rd in B10 behind powerhouses Maryland and Ohio State.

My understanding is that there are six scholarships available with one verbal currently. That means five scholarships are still available.

Beyond winning I think that recruits need to see UD's playing style with Shauna. Coach Jabir featured a fast pace offense that would prepare a player for professional play and it is also a ton of fun. That will be important to many of the recruits she needs to convince that UD is the best choice

Ten good players are enough to play with, assuming no injuries or transfers. Also Blais could play next year.

2017 and 2018 recruiting

If Scaife, Wilmoth and Glacone all play as freshmen in a manner that indicate that they will be good in the 2017-2018 year then some recruiting pressure is off Shauna.

Right now, Cannatelli looks to be the only really good player on the roster now for the 2018-2019 season. It is, however, possible that Parkinson or Dennis improve greatly this or next season.

Looks like we are all hoping for good things, but clearly this program came down to earth with a thud. Shauna was a recruiter st Northwestern and she really must be successful quickly given the list class next year and the graduations lest we squander all that was built up in the last several years prior to 2015/16.

Updated scholarship tree with Blais status changed - 15 ships allowed - 5 now available for next year (4 if Blais returns) and 3 more the following year.

2017 Class (2021 Seniors) - Breen (verbal)
2016 Class (2020 seniors) - Scaife, Wilmoth, Giacone
2015 Class (2019 seniors) - Cannatelli, Parkinson, Dennis
2014 Class (2018 seniors) - Burdette, Layfield, Harris(PSU transfer)
2013 Class (2017 seniors) - Macioce, Cvitkovic, Grant-Allen, Blais (Marist transfer-not currently enrolled-unlikely to return to playing status this year-maybe next year if NCAA allows 6th year), Austria (red-shirt senior), Edwards (permanently inactive due to concussion symptoms)

Don't count Harris out. She may be a very good player.

I have to believe that Shauna and company have had several good recruits in attendance recently and probably more on Saturday. I believe that the next signing period is in April. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Questions:
If Blais comes back this Jan to school, she may be able to graduate in May. But if she isn't and needs summer school also, I wonder if that would roll over into next years scholarships.

I am confused on Ward. She has to sit out a transfer year. I assume she is enrolling this semester. How does a medical redshirt figure in this? Wouldn't she be eligible after grades are in next fall semester, redshirt or not?

If she is granted a medical redshirt, she will be a sophomore eligibility wise. If not, she will be a junior. Doesn't affect when she is eligible to play in either case.

Thats a given on health, but like all athletes she would love to play again if possible. Shauna just wants to her return to finish school and graduate.

Heres praying for all 3, recovery of health, finish school and graduate and play bball again.

Here's another '18 recruit Dayton is reportedly pursuing.

http://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/art...-becoming-star

Aquino, who wants to study business in college, weighs 180 pounds and is working on getting stronger. So far, USC, Colorado, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Rutgers, North Carolina, Indiana, Oregon State, Dayton and Eastern Michigan are leading the recruiting charge. A year of prep school next year is a possibility.

2018 recruit Emily Kiser. She also has offers from DePaul, X and Butler. Long arms, great rebounder, great shot blocker can shoot from the outside. Not much of a jumper, but makes up for it with great anticipation and court sense.

A school can declare an athlete unable to play and it doesn't count against the scholarship limit. I don't think it would really matter because Shauna has a LOT of scholarships available

Fundamentals are there but gosh she seems to have no speed or quickness. It almost looks like she is playing at 3/4 speed.

I did a quick check and there are still some athletic point guards who aren't committed. I will be interested to see if ud signs anyone between April 11 and may 17. I dont know if juco players can commit before they graduate. I think that they will sign at least one more player

Tiffany Johnson was a back up point guard who graduated in 2015. My fondest memory of her was the NCAA game against (I think) Kentucky. Andrea Hoover had fouled out and Tiffany was in. Game was close and Kentucky fouled her a couple of times(she was not a good FT shooter) and she calmly went to the line and made all of them to help ice the win.

It's rare, for sure.

I believe Dayton native (and current Sinclair CC women's bball coach) Victoria Jones (1999-2001) came to UD via the JUCO route. Until just a few games ago, Jones held the record (along with Kiki Lund) for most 3’s made in a single game (6).

I follow the Flyer coaches on Instagram and they have all posted what parts of the country they are visiting as they are looking for future Flyers. Additionally, I follow Coach Ard who is now with the University of Denver. It is interesting to see she too is going many of the same states our coaches are going.

I don't know if this is where the AAU games are being played or if there are similar recruits both are going after? Just interesting to see.

Go Flyers!

Great pickup. Amari is a 3 star with a 90 grade from ESPN and the #12 rated center. A strong and mobile player, who is a good rebounder and defender.
