Is It Win A-10 Tourney or Bust

Wondering with a current real time RPI of 51 if UD goes undefeated in the A-10 and falters in the tourney can they get an at large NCAA bid. Then examined the rest of the conference rankings which makes me think no way. Fordham is second at #89 ranking - VCU because of their dreadful non conference is at 117.

Unfortunately yes. We lack a single Q1 marquee win. You're not getting an at large without that. Had we beaten CMU which we should have as we gave that game away, we might be in the high 30s/low 40s RPI with a Q1 win and that might have put us in the convo.

But we will need to win the A10 tourney on our home floor to punch our ticket.

I was thinking the same thing after Sunday's win. We can go undefeated in the A10 and lose in the A10 final and get no bid... a tragedy of the current system.

In terms of "tragedy" of the system it is somewhat because of the very small conferences that get an automatic bid but that's what makes the NCAA Tourney great. Truthfully though, the A-10 doesn't deserve more than one bid this year because while competitive it's weaker than past years. But let's say UD goes undefeated in conference and they get to the final of the A-10 tourney and they go in with an RPI in the 40's tthen lose that game- I think then it's a dicey decision by the folks who choose the teams.

The system had nothing to do with our OOC record and the overall weakness of the A-10. Had the a-10 been stronger, I doubt we would be undefeated.

That's a very good point and it doesn't help that the rest of the conference also had dreadful results OOC.

Or had we won a couple marquee non con games. Perhaps CMU and Gonzaga. Losing to Auburn, Buffalo, and Wake didnt help either. Win two of those 3 alone and we are probably at-large worthy at 21-5.

Combined men's and women's college basketball rankings

Dayton MBB+WBB comes in at tied for 13

Graham Hays has some nice things to say about Dayton WBB but reiterates what has been said above: "even 16-0 in the conference would leave them in very shaky at-large territory for the NCAA tournament"

Latest bracketology has UD or whoever wins the A-10 tourney up to a #12 seed playing Texas A & M.
