2020 Schedule

I read an article that the Flyers schedule was announced today. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Go Flyers

We are at SEMU, at Georgetown and Robert Morris at home. Daytonflyers doesn't have it posted but google it and the complete schedule is up.

With RMU leaving the NEC for the Horizon, it will be interesting to see where their football team ends up.

The schedule is on Dayton's site now. Looks like some good travel's for the parents. I'll take San Diego, DC, Upstate NY, and NC any day.

RMU heading to Big South in football. Have some big pay day games scheduled over next 4- years. Curious to see if they drop Flyers like Duquesne did for the payday.

I see Dayton canceled their first game against SEMO. They didn't feel they could physically be ready to play based on rest and heat acclimization due to covid-19.

I fear this is the first of many to be canceled.

This is a really really strange announcement. The statement is that Dayton feels that they cannot be "physically prepared with the proper exercise and heat acclimatization" to play the game. Yet, SEMO is trying to replace the Dayton game with another opponent - suggesting that SEMO believes they can be "physically prepared". Will Dayton be "physically prepared" 1 week later to play at Georgetown?

Why would Dayton not be "physically prepared"? High schools in the area have already started conditioning drills, some colleges have also returned for conditioning. So what is unique about Dayton not being "physically prepared"?

Something else is going on here. I don't know what it is, but this is off the charts strange.

I wonder if SEMO wanted out this year and agreed to pay Dayton extra to do so? This might be why they announced it this way so SEMO could get a pay day game against a bigger program.

I wonder if Dayton has already bagged the season knowing no football is likely to be played?

It is strange and rather early to be canceling the opening game.

I hope to this is not the end of the football program. Coaches bounced after last season and some guys took jobs that might have come back to school had it not been for the virus. All speculation on my part, but just bewildered by this cancelation.

Hard to say what will happen, but if the season is canceled, the financial impact would be minimal. Program cost is a bit north of 1M, salaries would have to be paid, but travel, lodging etc. would be eliminated. Income from games is south of100K It is possible that an overall savings could result. Doubt that the current situation will affect the program going forward, but I don't have a lot of confidence in current leadership.

Could it be that the U is shoring up the budget to make sure that golden goose basketball, which finances everything, has a better chance of hanging in if there is a cancelled season.
Conditioning is hardly the driving factor here. They must not speak of this in candid terms at this point.

The biggest reason Dayton wanted to cancel the game was it didn’t think its players would have enough preseason training time to get ready. The NCAA approved a six-week preseason period that can begin July 24, but Dayton’s athletes won’t return to campus until Aug. 8. The university plans a phased move-in for students from Aug. 8-23.

In a typical year, all 110 football players would report to campus on the same day, move in, have team meetings, undergo physicals and start practice the next day. That won’t happen this year, Chamberlin said. It may be several days, if not more, after Aug. 8 before the team can practice.

Given the current situation in the South and West, football season is in mortal danger this year. Won't hurt the Flyers much but "mid-major" D1 schools will be in a bind, huge paydays won't be available.

Dayton will not play non-conference football games this fall. Members are currently working with the PFL on decisions related to the regular season. Similar to other Flyer fall sports, it is presumed that Dayton football will be postponed without a dramatic improvement in the COVID environment.

Don't see the PFL playing, down side far outweighs the upside. In fact I'm hard pressed to find an upside given the situation.
