The RI AD made a comment about there being 1,500 transfers if the new transfer rule passes, it might have been a serious comment, I am not sure. 1,500 transfers per year would be super chaotic IMO. This proposed new rule is a really bad idea IMO.

I believe the jury is still out on this. UD has done very well with transfers, and that is with the sit one rule. Offhand,I can thing of only one player that transfered up, that being TM, while we have a bunch of players that transfered in and really helped the program. There will be many P5 players that are recruited over, or realize it isn't working, and will seek greener pastures, and one of the greenest is UD.

Forgot about Juwan(and his daddy). That was probably a win-win for both UD and Juwan.

Mick Cronin and Jon Rothstein have made a good point that with lost credit hours losing that redshirt year is going to keep a lot of kids from graduating

Nice to see a P5 coach like Mick speaking out against the proposed “no sit” rule, and to include academics in his criticism. I’ve liked that guy ever since I saw his reaction to the Crosstown Smackdown 8 years ago.

So we now have four neutrals and a road game. Hope we can get that home-and-home starting at home we are looking for.

Mmm. What's the math on this? Is it D1 only? I think D1 is 200 teams @ 13 scholarships = 2,600 players. Big %. If it includes D2, I think it's still a big number.

353 D1 last season
So if RI Ad comment becomes true, right at 1/3 will transfer each year.

I wonder what the impact will be to all of CBB? I mean, they can't all transfer to P5+1 teams.

"Sorry son, your almost good enough to play for us at Power 5 U, but I am short on scholarships (at least for a 3 star like you). So go play for my farm team, I mean buddy at directional U and a year or two from now I will have a spot for you (if you do not suck at the college level) on my team to transfer in"

Brad I see the entire idea as a train wreck. What percentage of kids will actually finish their career where they started? The grass is always greener on the other side mentality in basketball and the world in general is already bad enough, this will only make it worse.

I don't mind dropping the sit-out year. There are a lot of reasons why a college player might want to change schools and most players will not be going pro.
It's hard to say how much the sit-out year really discourages kids from transferring. Eliminating it will probably increase poaching, and I don't know how to best deal with that.
What's the worst that could happen -- a pandemic?

If they are truly renewable 1 year agreements no reason they should sit out a year if the fit isn’t right for them. Isn’t it just as likely we will be poaching from the lower conference teams too given the logic used against this? There are clearly more teams below us than above us.
If it helps the kids I am for it even if it supposedly hurts the schools. In the last 5 years we’ve been hearing about all kinds of doom and gloom policies that haven’t resulted in those results ( P5 conference realignment, 20 game conference scheduling ....)

The NCAA vote on the transfer rule change may happen on May 20 or be delayed until January...basketball coaches are reportedly very strongly opposed to the rule change, coaches want to retain the status quo...the fear is that the rule change will result in a de facto state of free agency for players.

Sources: State Farm Arena in Atlanta will host a multi game event on December 12th.
Dayton/Mississippi State
Alabama/Clemson
LSU/South Florida
A fourth game could still be added.

I wonder if these holiday tournaments and neutral site double and triple header games are now the only way we can schedule good teams in the non conference. I really wish we could start getting power 5 teams in the arena agin, but Neil is working with what he’s got and is consistently putting a top 50 schedule together even though we have a lot of things hampering is in scheduling.

NCAA passed a rule this spring allowing a 31st game without being a mainland game as part of an exempt tourney like Charleston Southern. Can go 16/15 if they want

And I rather doubt that the 31st game will be road/neutral. But we will have to wait and see. Article on CBS sports explained the three options that schools could take, and i believe UD will go for the 31st game not dictated by being in a tournament

Very interesting scheduling possibilities coming out from the NFL. This has the potential to further cut in to college basketball. The Super Bowl may be played as late as February 28. season could start as late as October 15. I wonder if college basketball is already talking about moving March madness back next year with the hopes of having a vaccine by then? That has the potential to possibly move some of these early season tournaments and neutral site games around as well. If things God willing stay as they are, I love the big six games we are playing. https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/...-schedule.aspx

Interesting that Ben Howland said this after the last game in the Arena
“I was really questioning what I was thinking by scheduling Dayton,” he said. “I told him when I shook his hand that we’re not playing them anymore.”

Sources: Several power conference programs are putting stipulations in guarantee games for next season that if no fans are in attendance, the mid-major school will only receive travel costs and not the normal guarantee. Another effect of the coronavirus.

It’s now “highly unlikely” that the one-time transfer waiver will go into effect immediately after the Board of Directors recommended that changes are not appropriate at this time, sources told
@Stadium
. Vote still scheduled (for now) on May 20.

Today's topic: Breakout player.
Jordy Tshimanga, Nebraska. He gained confidence throughout his freshman year, and he is willing to put the time and effort in this offseason to continue his improvement as a sophomore. – BTN analyst Shon Morris

This is after Jordy's freshman year. Still think there's more to Jordy's game than we saw last year

Yeah, I think the key is keeping him healthy. It sounds like he had knee issues at Nebraska too.
I still go back to Derrick Dukes saying during on the OOC games in December that Jordy was still limited by his knee and the staff thought he could be an all conference caliber player

Not sure if you all remember this but Bucky was also very high on Jordy. I think the staff feels pretty good about him. If we can get 8, and 5 out of Jordy its a home run

If Jordy can get 10 pounds off he’ll get more bounce back like he had at Nebraska and we will see a huge difference Imho !

We lost 19 rebounds per game, and Jordy averaged 2 last year. If he averages 5 a game, we need help.

I'm guessing that Moulaye will soak up that 10 lbs and it will add to his already awesome torso . Look for Landers-ish rebounding numbers from Sissoko.
Ibi can cover Ryan's numbers. Jordy can get 4 or more by accident. The quickness of Crutcher and Chatman can snag their share of 50/50 balls.
I don't see us substantially deficient in rebounding. Mix in some Zimi and who knows, with a bit of prayer, some Chase, and our upside on the boards is awesome.

I'm like a starting 5 of MS, Zimi, Blak, Chap and JC. JT, IW and DC off the bench with plenty of minutes looks like a bubble team.

I agree with 4 of the 5, but I think Ibi gets the nod over RJ for the last slot. Also, you forgot about Luke coming off the bench. Otherwise, I agree that this team will contend for an NCAA berth.

With no games until God knows when, the Kool Aid will be flowing this season. If there is one. I personally would double down on those rebounding predictions if we got a healthy Chase back.

Ibi will start and if we get a healthy Chase back, we will be very good. I expect Jalen and Ibi will both average high teens to mid 20s. They will need offensive help from the rest of the rotation to keep defenses honest, but it would not surprise me if theses two create 45-50% of our offense. The guys can flat out shoot 3s or penetrate/drive the lane for 2.

Is there any indication Chase is coming back? I’d be thrilled if he does and I’d agree with your assessment that rebounding will not be too great of an issue.

Wouldn't there be an issue with him being eligible for fall semester since he wasn't enrolled for spring semester? Assuming his return is on the table

From what I remember he medically withdrew from UD so I think he would be OK eligibility wise

Heard someone floating this idea...
during the weekend of "The Game" (OSU-_ichigan),
- UD, UC, OSU, and X play 1st round on the Friday
- Winners and consolation games then played on Sunday

I think Sissoko can pull down 11 boards all by himself. Offensively, he looked good in the limited minutes he played last year, but it was not against D-I level competition, so it would be very interesting to see how he looks with a year of development under his belt going up against Obi.
Jordy's trajectory at the end of last season was looking good also. The injury really hurt his development most of the season, but he was coming on at the end, and was looking better than he had at any point during the year. Barring injury, I think he will have a solid season next year.
Maybe I am too optimistic, but I think we are going to be borderline T25 next year, and maybe better.

Dayton / Miss. St.
Clemson / Bama
LSU / S. Fla
Auburn / Memphis
are the 4 games in Atlanta on Dec. 12. My wife went to Clemson, and BG coaches in the 3rd game against Cheatin' Will Wade. The 4th game has probably 2 of the dirtiest programs in college basketball. I think I'll be making the trip.

This ranking is better for us...the top 50 mid-majors for 2020-2021...Dayton #8, #3 in the A10.

8. Dayton Flyers
2019-20 record: 29-2 (18-0 in Atlantic 10)
Even with 20 ppg scorer, All-American, Conference and National Player of the Year Obi Toppin off to become a top-5 NBA Draft pick don’t expect a major drop-off from the Flyers. They were one of the best shooting and scoring teams in the country besides Toppin, including All-Conference point guard Jalen Crutcher (15.1 ppg and 4.9 apg). He entered the NBA Draft himself but should return for another season.
The additional losses of Trey Landers and Ryan Mikesell are going to hurt but Dayton still brings back guards Ibi Watson and Rodney Chatman to have another top-tier backcourt. The frontcourt is a concern, with the program failing to land any graduate transfers, despite coming off of this historic success. But if senior Jordy Tshimanga and redshirt freshman Moulaye Sissoko can produce enough to not be a liability, the Flyers will have a shot at repeating as A-10 champs.

35. Wright State Raiders
2019-20 record: 25-7 (15-3 in Horizon League)
Leading scorer Billy Wampler is gone but Wright State gets the benefit of having last season’s Horizon League Player of the Year back in Loudon Love. Tanner Holden had a great freshman campaign (10.8 ppg and 6.5 rpg) and leading passer Jaylon Hall will have a big senior year coming up. If transfers Tim Finke and Aleksandar Dozic can have an impact, the Raiders will be the heavy favorite to win the league once again.

45. Nevada Wolf Pack
2019-20 record: 19-12 (12-6 in Mountain West)
With Jalen Harris all but certain to remain in the NBA Draft, Nevada loses its top four scorers. Similar to Boise State, they have multiple transfers who sat out last season to make an impact, including Oregon State’s Warren Washington and Desmond Cambridge, who averaged 16.5 ppg in two years at Brown.

@11W
Chris Holtmann says Ohio State would "absolutely" consider scheduling games against Cincinnati, Xavier or Dayton, though a tournament is unlikely and the logistics make it complex.

I usually find these types of recaps fairly uninformed and laughable. But this one seems pretty spot on in my opinion.
We will have an elite backcourt (legitimately one of the best in the country). Our fate is in the hands of Jordy, Moulaye, Zimi, etc.

Might be a tough ticket. Moody isn't that big. Does UD get an allotment?

I also agree... We can start 2 of: Jordy, Moulaye and Zimi and be ~#8 on that last. With Chase Johnson or a great transfer I think we're top 2-3.

Not sure why people on this board feel like we need to recruit over Moulaye before he officially plays a single game for us. If we do that, he’ll be in the transfer portal before the “Welcome to UD “ thread is up on UDPride! I don’t think any of us want to see that happen. I’m very optimistic about him being a solid player for us on Day One. If there are reasons for concern, I would be interested in hearing what they are.
