Flyers vs Thundering Herd
Exhibition match last night. Flyers win 3-2. Teams played three 30 minute periods.
Went down 2-0 in first period. Loose marking part of the problem. Also, clearances from the back had no purpose. They were aimlessly kicked, picked off by Marshall, and brought right back at the defense.
In the second period Flyers came out strong and scored 3 goals in the first 15 minutes or so to take the lead. Goals by freshmen Morrissey and Powell, and senior Blank.
Rest of match had Dayton with the better run of play but no more scoring. High ball pressure seemed to be the key - as Marshall had trouble playing the ball out of the back.
Hard to tell much from an exhibition - it is a time for experimentation. Marshall is a pre-season 4th pick in C-USA. However, I do expect some frosh to get significant opportunities and push some of the upperclassmen for PT. Season starts for real Friday at UC. If nothing else, the Marshall match was on the fake turf - a good practice for the same surface at UC.
