BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- Let me tell ya guys, “livin’ off the grid” ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. Allow me to explain.

Mrs. Swampy and I have been without electric power for the last 48 hours, after a freak thunder/wind storm rolled thru a narrow band of the northern Detroit suburbs Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t a tornado, more likely straight-line winds that hit 70 MPH at their peak. The storm basically followed a path along 13 Mile Road and knocked down fences, uprooted trees, snapped telephone poles in half and then was gone.

Unfortunately, the storm hit right around 5:00PM on Saturday, smack dab in the middle of the annual Woodward Dream Cruise, sending roughly 1 million people and 40,000 classic cars scattering for cover. When several power lines came down across Woodward Avenue the Royal Oak PD had to shut the Cruise down.

Thankfully, our homestead was spared but some of our neighbors were not as fortunate, as some rather large, mature trees ended up on their homes or cars. Ironically, we had a big pine tree that was leaning towards our house removed just a few weeks ago…otherwise, it would probably be in my bedroom right now!

The laptop is powered up, so let the links flow:
