Helmet Labels: Special Forces?

anyone know about labels appearing on some helmets?

if you zoom on Tucker Yinger, it says "SPECIAL FORCES, RANGER."

is it a type of merit decal vs military service, I suspect?

Columbia,

Players that make contributions on special teams are given the sticker. My son's high school team gave out Superman stickers for special teams. Dayton gives out the Special Forces sticker. I don't necessarily agree with it. I think it somewhat inappropriate to correlate special teams and military service. JMO

I do believe it's good to recognize special teamers in some way. Their efforts can make a huge difference in games. I certainly believe Dayton showed that vs Davidson.

GDF!!!

The Special Forces stickers are given to players that start in some aspect of special teams. Coach Turner uses it to fuel the special teams unit. He compares it to the "Rangers". Special teams are something nobody usually wants to do but it is necessary in winning football games. Being a recent alumn, we took a lot of pride in special teams. It often would win us many games or put us in position to win many games. Many people do not get enough credit for the effort they put into special teams.

Being a ranger requires a toughness that some people just do not have. They are not trying to take any credit away from the the military. It is more representing the BOND that the Special teams unit has.
