Spoke with someone in Union Catholic's athletic dept. awhile back to find out the name of their local newspaper that reported high school results and he told me that Jordan Pierce is the nicest young man that you would ever want to meet! The shoutout to Kevin Kuwik thanking him just gives testimony to that fact!

Jordan Pierce is not re-writing the record books, but I've been watching the youtube posts and he really is pretty agile with good court movement. He can run like a deer and has good hands. Also his body just looks like it will grow some more. Also he is not Steve's size, but has average weight for his size. He may not be the total project that was predicted in some early posts, and will challenge Sam for minutes.

In high school, it is a lot harder for a big guy to light up the scoring column. They are at the will of their teammates to pass them the ball unless the coach really requires their players work it through the post. If I recall, and I could be mixing him up with another post player we were recruiting Steve had similar numbers when we were recruiting him.

The advantage of the big guy is building a wall around the basket, its defensive in nature.

That is one trait that did not jump out at me. On that score, I think Kostas has more desire and technique to block shots. But of course that might all change when they get with Arch.
Kostas might make a living on the perimeter, and Pierce may be restricted to the paint.

Can't wait to have 6'11 on the perimeter and 7'0 around the basket.

Results from three games last evening, Tues. 1/17: Jordan Pierce tallied 11 points and 12 rebounds as his Union Catholic Vikings defeated Union in a home game 68-59. Their record is now 7-3 and Jordan is averaging 12.4ppg.
Next game is Sat. 1/21 at home against Linden.
Jordan Davis scored 8 points as the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes from Irmo, SC lost a home game to Irmo 59-41. Their record is now 12-5 and Davis average is around 18ppg.
Next game is Fri. 1/20 at home against River Bluff.
Always excited to see McKinley Wright's stat line because I think we will need valuable minutes from him next season! Once again he led 4 teammates in double figures last evening with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists as the Champlin Park Rebels stayed undefeated on the season at 11-0 by defeating Elk River at home 92-47. He is averaging 23.4 and, once again, proves that Archie knows talent when he sees it!
Next game is Fri. 1/20 at Blaine.

Article from the Minnesota Star Tribune today! "Top ranked Champlin Park routs Blaine to remain undefeated." McKinley Wright's team is now 12-0 as he led his team with 21 points and sat midway through the second half in the 92-45 win. Champlin Park got off to a fast start and led by 32 at halftime 54-22!
Next game is Tues. 1/24 at home against Park Center.
In another game on Friday Jordan Davis team, Dutch Fork, defeated River Bluff 59-48 as Jordan scored 20 points. Dutch Fork is now 13-5.
Next game is Fri. 1/27 an away game with Blythewood.

An old UD buddy in NJ went to see Jordan play Friday night and here is his text to me:
"Had 3 ally-oops, but needs work on FTs and movement. The DDN says he is 7', he was a head over all on the court but doesn't look 7'. Archie has some work to do on him."

Seems like a quite reasonable comment. Wouldn't it be nice to have the option to have select freshman work under Archie for a year and save their 4 years of eligibility? I guess nothing stops that other than the kid's impatience?

Many other things prevent it:
-Desire to preserve redshirt in case medically necessitated
-Desire to preserve ability of a kid to transfer without losing a year of eligibility
-Unwillingness to tie up a scholarship for 5 years
-Fear of the 5th year transfer

"Champlin Park Rebels, ranked No.1 in Class 4A, used a strong first half to defeat the visiting Park Center Pirates 85-75 and remain undefeated at 13-0." "Brian Smith, a 5'10" guard, led all scorers with 25 points." "Teammates McKinley Wright and Theo John added 23 and 16 respectively." McKinley hit right on his average for the season! What a player we are getting next season! He is unselfish! I don't know how many assists he had last evening but I bet he was feeding Brian Smith when he knew his teammate had the hot hand.
Champlin Park's next game is at Hopkins on Thurs. 1/26

Dont count me in those "lot of poster" ranks. McKinley should be handed the keys Day 1. No debate. Unless they get a grad transfer PG. At which point Crosby probably transfers out

According to this he only had 3 assists. I'm still impressed by his overall output (23.2 ppg, 6.9 apg, 8.2 rpg, 2.7 spg). I know high school competition isn't the best, but I'm impressed by anyone 6'0" tall grabbing 8+ boards a game. I'm assuming they don't really track turnovers...no way he only has 2 this season.
http://www.mnbasketballhub.com/roster_players/15524366
Still hoping to get out and see him play in person. I'm about 45 minutes from Champlin Park. My local team is also one of the top teams in the state - still holding out hope that we play Champlin Park in the State Tournament so that I can get out there and watch. My wife joked that we should show up in our UD garb and get MW up to speed on the various UD cheers.

I am willing to wager an adult beverage payable at a game next year that assuming Crosby is healthy, MW is not the starter on day 1 (and probably not all year). We have 17 home games, so I can take plenty of wagers on this, sign up below.

No, I have not seen him in person but I'm very impressed with the video footage I've seen. Obviously that is a highlight reel but he has put up very strong numbers.
He is playing in the top class of MN (not a bunch of farm boys). The team is the top in the state and he is the best player on the team. They are ranked near the top 50 nationally.
What I like most about him is that I read he is a gym rat, which means he works hard on his craft. He also appears to be very humble based on the article I read previously. Those are two traits I admire a lot.
No, I'm not wagering a beer but it isn't as if my prognostication is that far out of line to start since he is doing well at a "big" school and, let's face it, JC has been less than inspiring. OK maybe the STAR FROM DAY ONE was a little much but, hey, I'm passionate...sue me!

I'll take this one. But, I live out of town. I still manage to see at least one home game a year. I have all the concerns about JC that you do. However, I'm going to take the high road here, and bet that he improves enough. Also, it's such a big jump to the college ranks. Win or lose, I get to meet a fellow flyer fan. So it's a good deal either way.

Champlin Parks, McKinley Wright, recorded his first triple double of the season (27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists) last evening leading five other teammates in double figures as they defeated Hopkins 99-79 on the road running their unbeaten streak to 14 games! Champlin Park plays Coon Rapids in an away game tonight.
In the other game last evening, Jordan Pierce team, Union Catholic, was defeated by Union 67-57. They are now 7-7 on the season. No box score was available.
Next game is Sat. 1/28 at home against Westfield.

Holy cr*p, that's some rarified air he is operating in. Undefeated. Triple Double. On the road.
Beginning to think the over/under ooc games next season for MW to start is about 4. A lot will have to do with what goes on in practice with his defense, and the locker room as far as leadership as well. But if he has a Dak Prescott effect on the squad........hmmm.

Hard to believe that McKinley is not a Top 100, and four star player. That of course is all about where he is going to school. It appears that Archie has uncovered a potential jewel.

Just saw your post, and your on! Win win for both of us, but free beer always tastes better.
Reminds me that I made a similar post on here last season, honestly do not even remember what it was about, but I do know a few took me up on it. I must have won, as no one has pointed out I lost. Time to do some searching through the archives.

Wright has all the talent, but most importantly, he has a PG's mentality and is a very good decision maker. Very impressive. Also liked how he wore his UD warmup shirt during pregame.

Jordan Pierce recorded a double/double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Union Catholic Vikings as they defeated Westfield at home last Saturday 62-39. Their record is now 8-7 and Jordan is averaging a little over 12ppg.
Next game is Thurs. 2/2 at Plainfield.

Finally got to watch the Champlin Park video. Wright is the real deal. The kid sees the floor and the open man, and quickly. Great handle, decent shot and is a leader. Hard to believe he won't start early next year.

Can't imagine the combo of MW and Kostas not being a major factor with McKinley's shooting and floor vision coupled with Kostas' dexterity in the lane. And I mean by the middle of ooc.
I could envision a flood of assists and layins.

I can picture Kostas running the floor like Danny Manning used to at Kansas. I have been saying that McKinley is the real deal and UD will be fine with a freshman pt. guard at the helm next season. Some on this board kept saying there was no way he would start over John Crosby because freshman are never ready to step right in.
Everyone was saying we needed to get a 5th year senior pt. guard but I don't really think we need one. I feel that Archie will make the right decisions on the starting lineup next season just like he has in the past and it will be based on what is shown in the practices in the preseason!

Aren't you a bit premature with your comments especially with your past-tense comment? Look, I like McKinley alot but the kid ain't even away from home yet...Nobody including Archie knows who is going to be the starting PG next year and those who are a bit skeptical about a freshman starting may very well be correct here in their prediction of that not happening...

Well, one thing I think we can all agree on is if JC doesn't make a dramatic improvement and MW isn't good enough to get a majority of PG minutes, it's going to be a long next year.

Even if Wright is the second coming of Bob Cousy we need another JC is a total failure so far and can't be counted on to improve based on past experience. We need a transfer-bad.

In case anyone is interested, this site carries a lot of Minnesota High School sports live.
They have the Champlin Park game tonight against Anoka. 7pm CST.
http://prepspotlight.tv/MSHSL
I think they show most of the top teams live.
CP beat Anoka by 20 about 6 weeks ago. MW had 16-5-5-5.

McKinley has a good start, but he doesn't have a D1 hardened body at this point. I think he will play a lot of minutes----more than Crosby. But overlooking the injury risk at pg would be a mistake. If Crosby or Wright go down with injury (please Lord no), there has got to be a 3rd point guard.

Interesting that Champlin Park is now up to 6th in the USA Today Computer Rating by Massey, but are not anywhere in the so called "expert" ratings put out by Jim Halley. So much for "expert".

I wonder what they use as a formula for the computer rankings. There are 5 teams from Minnesota in the top 32. Minnesota has a some good players, but it's hardly the hotbed of high school basketball.

Massey uses analytics much like KPI, Sagarin and some of the others. Strength of competition, who you beat and where you beat them.

Sure, but how do you establish SOS with thousands of high schools? Has to be creative statistics.

Didn't get a chance to watch the game live last night but Champlin Park easily disposed of Anoka at home 82-32 running their unbeaten string to 16-0 this season. Theo John led 5 players in double figures with 17 points. McKinley Wright finished with 11 points and is still averaging 22.4ppg.
Next game is Fri. 2/3 at home with Andova.
In the other game last night Jordan Davis team, the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes lost in a close game to the Lexington Wildcats 64-50. "The Wildcats used an 8-0 run during a two minute span in the fourth quarter." Jordan Davis led all scorers with 24 points. Dutch Fork's record now stands at 13-7. Jordan's average is 20ppg.
Next game is Fri. 2/3 at home with White Knoll.

This guy is going to take a bit to develop. However, from watching his highlights, he is a pretty fluid athlete that I think Archie can turn in to a pretty good player. Just doesn't look like he's played a ton of basketball.

I hope that next year he can impact the game defensively and get some rebounds. The offense could be a work in progress. But, I have faith that Archie and his staff can take a 7' athlete and turn him into a good player

I was at the Fordham game and saw Jordan there. Baby faced kid that was taking in the fact that with 2,400 in attendance 1,500 were UD fans. I wish he had some UD attire on as I would have spoken to him. Wait till he sees a game at the arena!

I agree with you that many bigs are works in progress when they come out of HS, including Steve, but a 3 point effort just seems very unusual for a D1 recruit.

Two results from last evening with no box scores: Dutch Fork ran their record to 14-7 by defeating White Knoll 68-36. Jordan Davis has been tallying over 20 per game so there is no reason to believe that this game was any different!
In the other game last night, there was an article in the mn star tribune but no box score with it. Champlin Park ran its unbeaten string to 17-0 by defeating Andova 63-47 behind Theo John's 21 points and Josiah Strong's 13 points. No mention of McKinley Wright's stat line but he is like Scoochie and does whatever his team needs him to do to win the game. That is the main reason I like him so much and think he will be able to step right in at pg sooner, rather than later, next season!

Two more games from last night but not much to report on:
Union Catholic was defeated by the Patrick school 42-38 and their record is now 9-8. Jordan Pierce name was not even listed in the box score as he was either injured or had a prior commitment. Next game is at home on Tues. 2/7 against St. Mary Assumption.
Nahziah Carter's team, Bishop Kearney Kings, had a game on Sat. 2/4 at East High but could not find results. Will report when and if I find a box score.

The nation's No. 11 basketball recruit paid a visit to Union Catholic in Scotch Plains Saturday, but it didn't last long. Patrick School center Nick Richards, the No. 1-ranked player in New Jersey and a Kentucky commit, was ejected along with Union Catholic's Jordan Pierce, a Dayton commit, after fighting a wild brawl that erupted in the game's first 30 seconds.

Wow! No wonder Jordan Pierce was not listed in the box score that I saw! He and Nick Richards both gone after the first 30 seconds! My son graduated from UK and is a huge fan. I'll have to tell him to have his recruits to lay off of our recruits. ha
Yes, kudos to, I think, his little guard Kyle Lofton for pulling him off right away so no one got hurt!

If that was a brawl, I'd hate too see what you call a real fight

I don't condone fighting. It's what galls me about hockey. But glad to see our guy did more than stand his ground when confronted.

Found an article on Nahziah Carter's team, Bishop Kearney from Rochester, NY on their game from Sat. 2/4. "The Bishop Kearney boys basketball team trailed on the road at East High by eleven points going into the fourth quarter. The Kings ended the ballgame on a 31-14 run to beat the previously 12-4 Eagles by a score of 69-63. Sophomore Patrick Thomas went for 21 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists while Nahziah Carter had 20 points, 11 of which were in the fourth quarter."
Bishop Kearney is now 11-5 on the season and Nahziah is averaging 19 points per game.
Next game is Tues. 2/7 at home against University Prep.

dang, too bad, would have been nice to see the box score, reports from that matchup, I doubt Jordan gets many opportunities going up against legit D1 players of that size during HS play, and likely vice versa, though Patricks probably plays a bit more of a national schedule in the holiday tournaments.

It wasn't much of a fight. Pierce shoved Richards and he threw a punch (didn't connect) and that was it.

There's video linked above. Jordan definitely provoked the melee with the unconventional defensive strategy of trying to put the guy in a headlock. But the other guy did throw the first punch.
Don't want him getting thrown out of games, but we do need a rim-protecting enforcer type...

Isn't taking out the big guy on the other team another way of protecting the rim?

Lol..Well played.....I'd imagine there may have been a tad bit of history with those two cats.....Can't imagine something escalating to that point so early in the game..

Of course we don't. Maybe "our guy" was provoked. I don't care in either case. It's the fight in the dog that we could use some times in the lane.

Many of you already know the result of the only game from this evening since it was televised live as McKinley Wright's team, Champlin Park ran their record to 18-0 by defeating the second best team in their region, Maple Grove, 70-60. McKinley played a great game and showed great leadership with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
Next game is Thurs. 2/9 at Centennial.

Elevation?
Didn't look like "our guy" ever got more than a couple inches off the floor in the wild rebounding scramble that preceded the confrontation. Any info on his jumping ability?

OK Anyone see this guy as a recruit before this announcement? The DDN called it another Archie 'surprise'.
I tell you what man, Archie doesn't keep things close to his vest, I think he wears a bullet proof vest and keeps everything under it!

Look, I'd be willing to bet this latest instance was an aberration and not the norm but you really should care. I'll take that aggressiveness/toughness/"fight of the dog" in putting an ass on guys down in the blocks starting in game 1 next year, going after rebounds in space and bringing it within the realm of the offense and defense, not 65 feet from the other hoop by getting back at someone or instigating something. He's going to find out probably in day 1 of practice next year how it's going to be and certainly in game 1 and he ain't going to like some of the things being done..

I care that he is a great project with attitude. Good recruit. Don't care about that other crap. I'll let you worry about that.

LOL..I knew you'd finally say something that finally made sense in regards to the fight by calling it "crap". I'm pretty sure if it was an X recruit who got ejected we'd be hearing how he fits the X mentality perfectly...

Seriously do you blame Archie? It is good to not have it broadcast so every one of the other schools know exactly what is going on as well.
Sure would hate to see a possible recruit get on this site and read the possible negative things some of us babbling idiots might say about him.

It is obvious Archie and his staff play recruiting out much less publicly than most schools. If you look at Dayton's Verbal Commits page there are only 4 potential 2018s for UD listed. http://verbalcommits.com/schools/dayton
Then if you go to the top of the page and start clicking on links for the other A10 schools some of them have as many as 35(VCU) 2018s listed. How accurate those lists are I don't know but its pretty obvious that UD's recruiting isn't leaked or reported on as much as a lot of other schools.

Well we have only offered like 6 2018's and as of right now we only have 1 schollie to give in 2018, so very selective.

And I'll add it seems to be alot more personal with AM as far as the personal attention he /his staff gives to kids he recruits versus throwing offers out there like bones to a dog..He wants the complete package of a kid versus just the "next man up" mentality....He knows the chemistry part is not too far behind the talent/skill part. Maybe if he had his pick of the litter if he was at a top 5 school it might be different..

Rule of thumb is you offer 10-15 scholarships per available scholarship with a focus on 4-5 guys that are your top targets for that spot.
