Wow! OOC opponents go 3/4, and even GT pulled one out tonight. Add in the "skin-of-their-teeth" win by our Flyers, and tonight was a pretty good night.

And a certain team that shall not be named is leading the #1 ranked team in the country by 12 with 2:00 to go. In the immortal words of Dean Wormer, "I hate those guys..."

True. We saw that in Orlando, and a national TV audience saw that tonight. And, unlike in many recent seasons, their team isn't loaded with asshats. Guys like Sumner and Bluiett seem to be fairly class acts, unlike Da Gangstas of days gone by.

Then, I had one wish come true tonight. We're tied for 1st Place in the league, with a chance to have a large say in our own destiny. We need to win out, and hope the Bonnies can knock-off the Hawks a week from tonight. If that happens, then we're the undisputed #1 seed in Brooklyn. Keep praying, Rita!

GT wil get a bid if they win out IMO...they have 3 games left...at BC, at Louisville, and Pitt.
Doubtful that they beat Louisville or Pitt, they should win at BC, but we will see.

I want to win the regular season outright but I am not sure that was the best result for us. We controlled our own destiny with VCU already. We needed them to win in order to have a better RPI an make our potential win (or do I dare say loss) against them look better for NCAAT seeding. Going to still need Bonnies to knock of Joes.

VCU may have seen their bid go down the tube. They will be loaded for bear against us.
NC St now at .500. What would a losing season do for their coach? They finish at Cuse and ND and home to BC.

They literally just signed Gottfried to a 5 year extension in November. I can't see them going back and firing him after that.
Plus they have a 5 star guard coming in next year (with possibly only Cat Barber leaving for the NBA), so they will be good next year.

You are correct. Somehow I missed that when it happened, probably out of town. He will get at least two more years. Interesting Gottfried makes about the same as the rumored Archie contract.
Good for us!

A couple more losses and the Bruins may move up to a 6 or 7 seed as they will be "gathering steam", and "pass the eye test".

GT won at BC today, they have a 4 game winning streak now...it is all going to come down to these last 2 games for BG...at Louisville and Pitt at home...I think Tech needs both to get in.

I've always liked BG but would never have bet that GT would be finishing their season stronger than UD

Sorry, but that is silly talk. GT needs the last two, plus a run to the ACC finals to even get consideration.......and even then i doubt they get in.

Disagree, will post more later...if they win out: sos is solid, top 50 record is ok, rpi is good enough.

SDSU just lost at home to Boise State. They were up 63-54 with the ball and 1:40 to go.
SDSU was an 11 seed going into this game. Anything can happen.

Very anxious to see what Jedi mind trick you attempt to pull over on us.
IF they win out (at Louisville, Pitt at home), GT gets to 19-12 with an RPI of 58. GT would be 2-6 vs Top 25. 5-8 vs the Top 50. 7-12 vs the Top 100. Their non-con SOS is north of 100. Not a single "talking head bracketologists" even has them on the radar. But you've found a diamond in the rough that nobody else has. And you believe with wins against Louisville and Pitt this week will "GET THEM IN"?!?!
If you finish that sentence with GET THEM IN......THE CONVERSATION, then I might be willing to raise an eyebrow. Their ACC tourney seed is most likely going to fall somewhere between 7 and 10. So they will get a decent 1st round game - against a Pitt, Clemson, Syracuse, VT. Only two of those will get credit as a quality win. It's possible they could win out and still get the 11-seed. That could be their best path to picking up quality wins, as they would play the 14 seed, then the 6 seed and then 3 seed.
If they are seeded between 7-10 in the ACC, they will play their 2nd round game in the ACC against the 1 or the 2 seed. IF they win both this week, and win their first two games in the ACC, which would include knocking off the 1 or 2 seed, then they would be legitimately in the conversation, but probably still outside the final cut line. Anything less and they are quickly cast off the board.

What about the .500 record in the ACC if they win out? Being .500 in the ACC almost always gets in I bet.
Sos is in the mid 20's I think, that is very strong.
If they win at Louisville, I bet you start to see people talking about GT.

Assuming GT wins out, last year, Oklahoma State got a bid with the following resume:
17-14 win loss record
RPI 59
Sos 23
NC sos 134
Top 50 4-10
51-100 3-1
Top 100 7-11
That is pretty close to GT this year, correct?
Georgia, Indiana, and Texas also had somewhat similar resumes.
I will post those resumes tomorrow.

Considering the interest in GT by most UD Pride members, it would be more fitting to have a separate thread devoted to the subject. In fact, it may make sense to have a separate forum dedicated to the subject.
We wouldn't want anyone to miss something GT related that got lost in all the other happenings.

I laughed. At least you didn't use the worn out phrase 'this is a UD board' like I get when I make a tOSU reference
Go Buckeyes!

tOSU has no chance to win at MSU, but with yesterday's win against Iowa, I think they'll need 2 wins in the B10 tournament to earn a pseudo-home game at UDArena!
Quite possibly against the home team!

That Kansas-Texas score is shocking. They appear to be building a whole lot of momentum for the tournament. I have seen Stephen F. Austin play and they have a really nice team. They can fill up the nets from all over the court. If both the Flyers and the Lumberjacks are in the NCAA, I hope we don't have to play them. They have some really good three-ballers.

Watched the beginning of the UT/KU game. Texas is at home, big crowd, primed for an upset.
Kansas jumps out to a 16-0 lead.

Iowa with a helluva comeback against Indiana. I'm a mixture of feelings, though. Do I root for Iowa because that's our best win this year? Or do I root for Indiana because they're one of the greatest threats to make an offer to our coach in the next few years? Decisions, decisions...

Iowa. Indiana is going to win at least a share of the Big10 regular season title. Crean not going anywhere.

They have been referring to Uthoff of Iowa as an "All American." He is a fine, fine player, but I think that is a stretch.

pretty much irrelevant at this point. It will be recognized as a really good win, and Vandy not far behind. We need teams like Alabama, St. Bonnie, Monmouth all to get at-larges, as well as VCU (hopeful) win. That would be 6 wins against at-large tournament teams - that's strong.

Saw highlights of St. Joes v. St. Bons game. They were scoring at will against each other. St. Bonaventure may be coming back as a successful college program.

SBU player Marcus Polsey erupts for 47 points against SJU...47 ties the highest single game point total by a single player in d1 this year.
The game was played in Rochester.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-...052432064.html:
With its students on spring break and its admissions department seeking to raise the university's state-wide profile, St. Bonaventure agreed to travel to Rochester to play Wednesday night's crucial Atlantic-10 home game against St. Joseph's.
Posley would be content to play every game the rest of the season in Rochester after erupting for 47 points to help the Bonnies beat St. Joseph's 98-90 and take a giant step closer to an NCAA bid. The senior guard needed only 19 shots to match the highest scoring game by a Division I player this season and to come within four points of the school record of 51 set by Bob Lanier.

So, is UCLA now on the bubble, or do they need to lose another game or two?

With one more regular season game and a Pac 12 tournament left to play, I've got to believe there is still time for UCLA to turn things around. Does anyone know the formula for how long it takes a team to "gain steam"?

I thought Alford was a decent coach, but watching his team a couple times this year and last night, probably not. They play poor defense and rebound poorly for a decent size team.

Nice not to have to worry about bid-stealers.
Here is today's lineup in games of interest:
Wichita State v. Loyola (IL) in MVC QFs (ongoing) - A loss could see them onto the bubble, as they are only 4-6 v. RPI Top 100 and RPI would drop into the 40's.
Miami (OH) v. Ohio - 7 PM, ESPN3
Monmouth v. Rider in MAAC QFs - 7 PM ESPN3
OVC semis are tonight on ESPNU.
WCC 1st round with 7 v. 10 and 8 v. 9 are tonight.
Big South QFs are already underway.
SoCon 1st round starts at 5 PM.
CAA 1st round starts at 6 PM.
It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Well, not quite.
It seems Stetson - playing Florida Gulf Coast in the Atlantic Sun conference tournament finals - is ineligible for the NCAA tournament. Were the Hatters to win the conference tournament, per conference rules the Atlantic Sun auto-bid would revert to the conference's regular season champs: North Florida. If FGCU wins the conference tournament they gain the NCAA auto-bid and North Florida receives the NIT auto-bid. Perfectly clear? Yeah . . .

Remember in the offseason some were saying there is no way Wichita State wants to play Dayton because their program is so much better?
Yeah, they have one win vs. the RPI Top 75 all season and are sweating Selection Sunday big-time. Maybe they should have played Dayton. Even a loss would have helped their resume haha.

GT won at home vs. Pitt...oh boy, if they just could have scored 4 more points and won at Louisville, I think that they would be in at this point. Oh well, oh so close. They might still have a chance with a good ACC tournament showing.

I am not sure, rpiforecast has the conference tournament probabilities up now, they finished at 18-13. I woud say that they have to win at least 2 in the ACC tournament to have a chance at getting an at large bid. Seems unlikely that they will be able to win 2, but I have no idea what is going to happen in the ACC tournament, they have shown that they can beat some good teams/big name teams, they have victories over: VCU, Pitt, ND, Virginia, Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Clemson, Wake Forest, and Boston College.
If they win 3 in the ACC tournament, then I think they are in. Their rpi would be 45 at that point, with a sos in the mid to low 20's. They would have a respectable/decent top 50/100 record at that point too.
You have to win 4 or 5 games to win the ACC tournament, depending on your seed in the tournament. GT would need to win 4 games to win the tournament.

Heck yes I am rooting for BG. I'm not a hater. Everybody on here should be rooting for him too.
If BG hangs on and gets GT into the tournament this year, then that will only be a positive for UD: all the commentators at the games/pundits on tv during the pre-game/halftime/post-game analysis talking about BG "who used to be the head coach at Dayton"...Dayton would be viewed positively as being associated with another successful head coach.
There is not much good for UD in BG being fired by GT IMO.
And besides all of that, he is a nice and classy guy that is easy to cheer for.

Through yesterday's games, GT is #58 on the Dance Card, the last team in is #50...had they beaten Louisville, then I think they would be on the right side of the bubble right now.
UD holding strong at #22.

I love BG and wish him all the success in the world.
This isn't about whether you're rooting for or against BG and Georgia Tech.
It's about their resume, better yet lack thereof, and ud2's infatuation with GT finding a way onto to the bubble. ud2 is the ONLY person in America who is talking or thinking about GT and the NCAA tournament in the same sentence or thought. They're not on anyone's board for even discussion at this point, nor should they be, let alone ud2's claim that if they win 2 or 3 more, they will be IN. The teams that are currently the last 10 out, which GT isn't even in that range realistically, probably have to win 2 or 3 more games to get a decent shot.
What's that song???? Let it go..........

How are they not in the last 10 out? Right now, they are already in the last 7 out according to the only bracketologist anybody should be following, Jay Coleman.

Need Monmouth to win MAAC championship. Gives Flyers a W over an NCAA team and keeps them under 50 RPI.
A W by Chattanooga will at least make 1 of the Flyers losses against an NCAA team. A W also gets Chattanooga real close to 50 RPI.
Looking ahead, need Vandy to win 2 in SEC tourney to keep them under 50 and probably gets them in the NCAAT.

Indiana is looking very strong, winning the Big 10 outright by 2 games, Crean has to be safe I assume.
Akron has a nice rpi, 34, but their sos, 126, and lack of top 50 wins are killing them. They are #69 in the DC, 18 spots below the cut line.
0-1 vs. top 25
0-0 vs. 26-50
4-0 vs. 51-100

Valpo just lost in the Horizon semis to Green Bay. Gonna be a lot of sweating going on in northern Indiana through the rest of this week. Dance Card had them 2 above the cut line before this loss. Think they're probably out now.

Today:
ACC 1st round (with one fewer game than normal due to Louisville's self-suspension) - Boston College tries to avoid being the first major college team since WWII (Georgia in '45) to go winless in football and basketball in the same season.
1st rounds of minor tournaments:
Big Sky
MEAC
SWAC
C-USA
Finals:
Summit - N. Dakota St. v. S. Dakota St.
It may surprise you to learn that The Summit League is the #11 rated RPI conference. SDSU is 36 in the RPI and might be a 12 seed if they win tonight.
NEC - Fairleigh Dickinson v. Wagner
One of these teams may be playing in the First Four.
Horizon - Green Bay v. Wright State
UWGB and WSU strike a blow against the Horizon's tourney setup of giving the 1/2 seeds a bye to the semifinals. WSU has also beaten Detroit and Oakland in Detroit leading up to this final.
Wright St. has won the auto-bid only once (2007), but been runners-up 4 times, including each of the last 2 seasons.
WCC: St. Mary's v. Gonzaga
Gonzaga is out unless they win. SMC probably is too, with their 0-1 v. the top 50 despite a #35 RPI since 18 of their 26 wins are against 200+ RPI teams.

That is why you don't want to play them during the regular season. The committee would try to avoid a first round rematch.

Unlikely that Wright St and UD would be matched up in the 1st round. With a win tonight, WSU is likely looking at a 15 seed if I had to guess, maybe one of the 16 seeds that doesn't have to do the play in game. UD is not going to be a 1 or 2 seed (or even a 3 should WSU bump up to a 14 seed w/ all of the 1 seeds dropping out of their conference tournaments)

About the only way UD and Wright State match up is in the second round (or third depending on what they refer to the First Four as today). WSU is probably no better than a 14, Dayton no better than a 6. So if WSU upsets a 3, and UD wins against an 11.
Other possibly is same round with UD as a 7 and WSU as a 15.

If we were a 7 and they were a 15, I would be PRAYING that they won their game. That's a dream scenario for any 7 seed to be able to face a 15 in round 2 for the right to go to the Sweet 16.
This is quite possible. Especially if we crap out early in the A10 tourney and they win tonight.
What's not so possible is seeing them beat UNC, Oregon, Virginia, Xavier, or Utah.
