Western Michigan Thread
I checked this morning about 9:00 EST and the Western Michigan University Bronco match with UD is scheduled to be streamed. It is listed as premium. They have an $8.95 day pass.
I'm hoping for a quick victory with no injuries!

Dayton off to its usual slow start. Kelly called first time out with WM up 4-2. Now its WM 13-7, come on ladies wake up. WM hitting over 500

27-25 Flyers first set.
Well, that was interesting. First lead was 25-24. We do seem to start slow a lot.
Sheff burned his timeouts early - at 2-4 and 14-18.

I think its more a case of the opponent throwing new wrinkles against UD that the scouting reports don't show and takes Kelly and the ladies midway through the set to figure out their defense and offense.

WM must be running an off offense as UD a good blocking team still does not have one bloock midway through set 2.

Dayton WM tied at 11 all then WM runs off 3 straight causing timeout 1 for Dayton. WM causing UD fits it seems.
Dayton takes lead at 20 - 19 and quickly falls behind 22-20.

WM takes set two 25-22 Dayton let that one get away. Well so much for my therory of new wrinkles, as Dayton should have known what it was by 2nd set. WM the smaller team is just out playing Dayton. But good news Dayton got 1 block in set two.

I am watching stat streaming only. I would guess that we are passing the ball really well in this match because Megan has 16 kill attempts and Isolde has 17. It would appear that WMU is focusing on taking away Kray because she has only 4 kills in 24 attempts. We need more from Rachel.
I think the defense tightens up and they are fine

Thats more like it...those half time talks must be awesome. Dayton with 23 - 15 lead. Gametracker a little generous with Dayton at 26 and WM at 15???

First and only loss for the Broncos at home this year. Exactly the kind of challenging match you want going into the tournament.

Great win tonight. One of the best road wins all season without a doubt. Western Michigan was undefeated at home this year and are as good or better than Ohio most seasons. Broncos get it done every year and are good enough to beat some NCAA at large teams. Its tough winning on the road against good teams! Think how hard it is for our basketball team.
Great result and a terrific end to the pre-NCAA tourney season. We ran the table after the nationally ranked teams in the non-con gauntlet. Sometimes I feel like so much excellence is expected from the program that they dont get the credit they deserve for never having a bad night most seasons against foes we feel we're as good or better than. Most teams have slip-ups.
Two times in a row now we've had to really fight for the win. First in 5 sets, now in 4. Against some good teams away from Frericks. I think we needed to fight for a couple matches right before the NCAAs. Now it just comes down to matchups and pairings. Its out of our hands now. We might get a great bracket, and we might get screwed. Nothing we can do about it now. I think we did as much as we could expect given our talent level. 26-4 stands on its own. The winning streak stands on its own.
We'll wait for the pairings and just give it our best shot.

Chris
I agree totally re the importance of this win to show character ahead of the draw. Dayton has not had much opposition in conference from teams of strength, I think it's been mostly a case of making sure we don't lose.
Tonight's tough game was the best prep for NCAA because of our weak conference schedule.
Here's to wishing the team a sweet 16 and more!!!!
