Is it my imagination or does Pollard start most games with a missed shot and a foul?

Terrible decision by Mikesell. Either draw the foul or pass it out.

Our lack of a bigs is showing up today again. They are daring us to shoot inside or take threes. Archie needs to press for the last three minutes.

And a few borderline questionable ones in the last few minutes of the half, too. Still, the offense looked as bad as the Gregory days in the first half. "Zone defense? Never heard of it!"

We are being outrebounded 28-18. 2-13 on threes. Anybody that thinks we do not need a big or two, this is exhibit A.

That is twice that Vandy has had breakaways on an inbounds from play under the Flyer basket. How is that happening?

DD playing better tonight. Does not look as lost, other than the breakaway. Also he keeps shooting with a good stroke after misses.

Rather him try them than Kendall. But in Kendall's defense, he generally doesn't take them unless the shot clock is running out or we're up by double digits.
Back to X: he hits them often enough, and his stroke is improving. But I would say, give him 2 chances a game to prove he "has it" on that particular night. If he misses both, then "Stop". If he makes at least 1, then keep firing...until he misses 2 in a row.

Sam 45%
Scooch 39
Williams 38
Cooke 37
Crosby 33
Darrell 32
Mikesell 31
Pollard 25
Kyle 19
Let's look at the stats. Williams needs to shoot the three every time he is open or feels he is open. Pollard should never shoot threes, and should not be rotated the ball behind the three point line with less than five seconds on the shot clock.
Just for the record Pollard took a three last game with plenty of time left on the clock.
Not sure what to say about Kyle. He has proven in the past he can make some, but he is a disaster this year.

From time to time we have seen almost all of our players get hot and drain a few in a stretch of play. They all seem capable of hitting them if taken in the flow of the game and the offense. Just would not want any of them to go 3pt-happy. Mainly because it is mentally draining to play 30 seconds of hard defense, only to have someone chuck a 3 and miss and there you go back on D again.
This MB was clamoring for Devin Oliver to never shoot another three. And how did that turn out? 16/21/28/40% his 4 years. More importantly he only tried 19/33/53/106 his 4 years. Point being, he knew when he was getting the stroke down his Senior year.
Yes, Xeyrius and the rest should keep shooting when they are left alone. But not when they have to manufacture the shot.

Kyle should never shoot a 3. Of course he's often open, why guard him. He's never, ever been good. He may be the single worst three point shooter in our history, at least for a man with a representative sample.
As a frosh he was a horrific 3/18,17%. Soph year he went 17/77, 22% Last year was 21/60, 35%. and this year 19%. He's made 45 3's out of 179 attempts, 25.5%, that's enough evidence to prove he should pass the ball or take it inside!!

Kyle shot 34% last year from 3pt when he attempted 62. The TEAM shot 34% from 3 last year.
Maybe they all should quit shooting.

No just Kyle! Last year's aberration when he shot a very pedestrian 35 percent does not outstrip a four year record of ineptitude at shooting 3's.

By the way, Kyle was 2/3 tonight from the arc.
And somebody asked whether Xeyrius should quit shooting threes? He was 2/3.
I rest my case. We had 7 players shoot better than 50% from 3pt tonight. This was a confidence builder.

The UD head coach obviously doesn't agree with what some post. He clearly wants both Davis, Williams and Miller to take 3s. I will go with what he wants over some posters who could find flaws in a national championship.

Devin Oliver was someone that never seemed to be totally consistent but he kept shooting and when all is said and done, I am glad he did. Kyles stroke looks okay. I am with Archie. Keep shooting the open ones Kyle.

Since you posted this, Kyle is 6 for 10 from the arc. The whole team is shooting 3's close to 38% for the season.
I think we are on to something. You hammer them about their shooting, and they respond.
Seriously, one can never tell who is going to have a Devin Oliver breakout shooting year. As far as I can tell, Arch has never put a muzzle on any of his shooters. And he sees them in practice.
