Northwestern had a nice lead and let Chicago State back into the game. Let's hope that they follow that pattern again.

Only problem with pressing is, it's hard to do if you're not making shots, and I don't think we're even batting.300 yet:

Sam is fouled on the three-ball. If I am not mistaken, only first or second three-ball foul for the Flyers this year. The press and double-team are working!

Why wait until 9:44 left to start pressing?

Archie waited too long to turn up the pressure on NW. He did the same thing against Nebraska and St. Mary's. When a team is manhandling you as NW was doing, you MUST change the tempo and chemistry of the game. It is not too late to pull this out, but I hope he finally learns his lesson in this game.

Why didn't they full court press on that last possession? They need to just to give NW less time to find a shot.

I fear this come back was just too big of a task for these guys. We have dug ourselves holes three times this year, When will why learn? However, a gutsy comeback nonetheless.

Game is all but over, but Archie, let this be a lesson for you and the rest of the coaching staff. This is the third game you have waited too long and now all three strong teams have beaten you with your slow starts. You cannot wait until 10 minutes left in the game before you act to change the tempo.

Kyle was too enthralled by playing in Chicago. He forgot to bring his game!

They will not learn. It has been proven by Archie and many other D1 coaches that they believe in their "system" and will not change until its too late.

Notwithstanding the terrible first half and abysmal shooting, got to admit we showed something the second half.
We pressure well but when a horrible start puts us in a deep hole, it is not enough.
Hope this was good experience for the rest of the season. Time to finish the Cabernet.

I don't like tp pick on Archie, but this one is on him. He must learn where the strengths of this team lies...and it's not playing a half-court game against shooters and cutters! Archie, please learn this lesson, as it has cost us three losses in this short season.

Similar script in the three losses. You can't dig such huge holes and expect to completely flip the game. You give yourself such little margin for error when you essentially have to score four out of every five possessions and get stops four out of every five possessions.

Lesson learned today: Press more...especially in the first half.

...and those inexplicable first half no-shows. What's that all about?
Looks like we're counting on the A10T. Which I know
we can win.

Cabernet sucks!
The problem with trying take a moral victory from the 2nd half is that UD has beaten nobody and the A10 is headed to a 2 bid year. Losing this game is bad and you can't make it anything other than that.

Flyers didn't press on one possession and that's when we cut the lead to 4. Macintosh made his jump shot with 4 on the shot clock. Will be scratching my head on that one for awhile.

Moral of the story: don't let yourselves get down by 23 by halftime.
We can only hope the whole team (coaches through walkons) learns this lesson.

I gotta give kudos to Mikesell. Not a high ceiling com-pared to others on the team, but he contributes- what a gamer. Never would have expected.
DD just has no confidence as has been pointed out here by others.
And Sam- get that "WTF just happened" pained expression off your face- just annoys the heck out if me. Recall that espn tv shot last year (I don't even need to remind what game do I?)

Yeah, but if there was better officiating, we would've been down by less points and started the press later in the game, resulting in a 3 point loss.

Yep. Pretty much need to win the conference tourney (or go undefeated in-con) to get a bid this year. So close, too. But you can't mail it in for 20 minutes against a B1G team, in their home city, in the arena where they hold their conference championship tournament, and expect to come out on the right side of the final score.
Oh, well, time for another Moerlein Christkindl.

These 2nd half comebacks(all 3 L) reasssure me we have decent talent. I think the A10T is very much in play for us.
This is the very scenario being a member in the A10 helps us big time. Weak year across the league with an automatic bid thats I think we're favored to get.
And how about that UD crowd at the stadium?

I'll give you, there were enough bad calls & bad "no calls" to make up for a 3 point loss and turn it into a win. And I'm not sure they got the call right on that last OB call with under 2 seconds left. But screw the uniform color: this was a Northwestern home game. And you have to play 10 points better on the road to win by 3, and we didn't.
To paraphrase Bill Belichik: "We're on to Vanderbilt."

Flyers 47, Cats 27 in second half. I will descend into my cups with Captain Morgan holding that thought...

As long as UD was going to keep hedging out top and getting fried by it, Collins was going to keep calling the same play. Wouldn't you?
What NU didnt want to see is UD change it up and switch all assignments out top to avoid leaving a free shooter open.
They never saw that, so they never worried about it.
