10-6 UD after one quarter. Lots of bad shooting on both sides.

Sorry, I don't get that - I usually get men's games on reddit or espn+, but can't find any free streams for this game. No radio either?

This will be a tougher game today. Playing VCU at their home will be tough. 7:36 left in the 2nd and Dayton up 16-10. #1 has 6 of VCUs 10 points.

Tough to watch in one sequence Jenna makes a good play stealing the ball comes down court one on three and forces a horrible shot and she knows better

Down 6 at half. Story is missed layups and turnovers leading to runout baskets. Magassa has 3 fouls and missed three layups from 1 foot away. Your 6-5 center cant keep doing that with such a size advantage.
VCU applying defensive pressure without fouling. Just a very sloppy and poorly executed 20 minutes. A lot of it self inflicted.

It appears a nice little pep talk at halftime. 5:43 left in the 3rd and down 39-37. Whitehead and Giacone both in double figures. Magassa with 7 boards in 8 minutes but has 3 fouls.

Whalen, a great free throw shooter, is now 1-4. UD an awful 46%.

We are 9-27 on two pointers. It's simple start making shots and we win, otherwise we go home.

Inability to make 1ft layups. Magassa misses another.

Why did Vcu win? Ud missed free throws not converting layups from offensive rebounds and vcu to their credit converted ud turnovers into points

Well, we didn't deserve that one. Terrible effort. That last minute was a microcosm of the game: bad passing, bad shot selection, we foul the wrong person, little defensive effort and poor shooting.

And yet despite all the mistakes if we make point blank 1ft layups we still win by 7-10. It's how we got beat by Sloo too. What aggravates me is the announcers say nothing about it. If men were missing layups it would be a focal point of their commentary.

Question
I don't get to see the Flyers in person....only on TV occasionally. Frankly, it's painful to watch.
We all the know the recipe for successful coaching: Good recruiting, player development and game coaching. I don't know Coach G. at all. I presume she recruits as best she can. Re the second point: UD doesn't recruit from the same pond as Stanford, let's say, as Chris has pointed out. But the coaching staff does have the opportunity to develop and improve the players we do recruit.
Is Coach Green doing that? Can those of you who have the opportunity to follow the Flyers closely say that UD players clearly improve during their four years? Just inquiring.

It’s hard to answer there can be reasons players inprove or get worse from one year to the next other than coaching. For example, giacone is first team all conference and A-10 most improved player. Was it coaching or finally fully healthy or a combination. Bradshaw ran the offense efficiently this year improving her assist to turnover ratio again coaching or a player just jelling with teammates? Whitehead lost offensively much of the year, lack of coaching or change in offensive scheme or start and stop with Covid? Just some of my initial analysis and I’m there watching and announcing.

Let me add there’s some young talent let’s see if Cook, Tyler, Perez, Magassa get better next year and how does Bohannon do playing some at the point and Whitehead has to take a big step forward offensively. Your question may better be answered one year from now hopefully in a normal season.

Practice
Do you know if Green uses male practice players? If not, why not? Top tier programs do.

She does but didn’t this year because of increased COVID risk.

I gotta think Green feels like this was UDs title to lose. Especially when SLU got bumped out. We would have faced UMass in the final. SLU and VCU and Fordham were the worst matchups for us and we would have faced just one of them. It was all there for the taking.
If you cant make layups though, nobody's going to feel all that sorry for you. If it aggravates us fans, you know it keeps Shauna up at night too. The silver lining is Magassa is a frosh so she has an offseason to learn to finish at her height. She has the size to be an 18ppg/10rpg/3bpg kind of player. Also needs to improve fitness a bit to get up and down the court quicker to beat the opposing bigs -- much like SGA and JCS could. Granted Magassa has a bit different frame than those two -- more SGA and less JCS -- but how good she ends up being will come down to how hard she wants to work. She can be elite. Or she can live on what God gave her and be good but no better.
We also get Adkins and Lemaster who sat out this year. The big loss will be Bradshaw as she was a good defender, handled the ball well this year, had a good A/TO, and got the ball to where it needed to go. Not much of a scorer or shooter, but we could get scoring elsewhere. Whalens shooting will be missed, but she was mostly a spot-up shooter and was never able to put the ball on the floor.
Perez got better as the year went on - especially on the boards.
Need to cut down on the turnovers -- especially the unforced needless bonehead ones. Case in point 3 seconds left in the half vs VCU and we get lazy and telegraph an inbounds pass that VCU picks off around the foul line for a shot at the halftime buzzer that would have counted. You cant have those kinds of mistakes and we get caught up with them too often. I know we want to play with pace but these kinds of TOs have nothing to do with pace of the game. Its upstairs.

As for next year first of all it would be good leadership wise if Erin comes back otherwise whitehead has to be a leader and be more consistent than she was this year. Also Cook will be a key next year.

It really is amazing how many layups Magassa missed this year--most within three feet of the basket.
