Player series, Part 3: Richard Amaefule
Richard Amaefule, 6-9, 230 pounds, age 20.8 (DOB 11-21-00), from London, England
Blue Ridge (Va.) as frosh, sat out soph (transfer), Dallas Wilson as junior, hurt as senior #371 HS recruit (247 Composite)
Wore #15 for East Tennessee State in 20-21 … Entering second year of CBB / first at UD
8.3 minutes pg … 1.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 0.5 TOpg
45.5% FG … zippo 3PT … 57.1% FT … did not attempt a trey last year
The good? If you project his ETSU stats out to 25 minutes a game, he’d average 7 rebounds. The bad? He only played 8 minutes a game at ETSU as a freshman. After playing double-digit minutes five times before Christmas, he only hit that mark once after Christmas. Against Alabama, he had four fouls and two turnovers in 8 minutes.
He represented England at the U16 level (8 ppg, 8 rpg, 2 spg) before moving to the USA. He reached the Rivals recruiting top 150 after his junior year, then got hurt and missed his senior year, and his rating dropped.
I know highlight videos have to be taken for what they are, but the two AAU / EYBL video clips below look like a player who’s better than what he showed at ETSU. He looked long and physically strong even before getting in a college strength program. On top of that, the one clip has multiple plays with him catching the ball outside the 3-point line, dribble-driving into the paint and making a variety of shots. That’s a versatile skill-set.
The short quotes from Grant when Amaefule signed talked about his size and physicality, with CAG calling him a “high-energy big” with “tremendous upside.”

Any player at 6'9" who can put the ball on the floor like Richard can, indeed has a high upside. I see him as being a match-up nightmare at either the four or five slot.

FYI, I'm leaving for vacation tonight. I still plan to post a couple player updates next week, but keep in mind, "vacation" and "plans" don't always mix.

What? Wait in the middle of this series your going on vacation?! Guess they don't teach commitment anymore at CJ.
OH! And BTW have a good time .... and don't forget to wear your mask!
Looking forward to the series continuing.

ohh, if he is fully recovered the bonus could
be quite a bit!....(fingers crossed) I wish we
could get some report, something on how
he looks mobility wise....
background:
as a junior in H.S. in Texas, he was
the 18th ranked power forward in the
nation, and in the top 150 players,
receiving offers in his junior season from
LSU, TCU, Kansas St, San Diego St..
He suffered lateral ligament reconstruction
surgery, and recruitment stopped.
If he has had time to heal, this could
be quite an addition, we'll see..

Now I want to see a baseline to baseline race between Amafeule and Carmona--with a basketball in their hands.

An injury recovery project highly worth onboarding! Real good catch by AG and staff.
(Guy had some crazy good offers pre injury)
