BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -– Let’s face it: any idiot on the internet can post a link to a website, right? Here at “From the Swamp” we strive to be more than just your average, run-of-the-mill imbecile and try to drill down deeper to stories and links that you won’t find by simply cruising the home page of ESPN.com. Such as:
-- Aaron Cosby of Louisville, KY, who visited UD this past weekend, is such a stud that he’s listed twice on Scout.com:
http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=9&c=4&yr=2010
You have to scroll down to the 4th page to find the duplicate listings.
-- Gary Parrish at CBS Sportsline on mid-level recruiting:

Don Donoher was a sometime-practitioner of this art, the prime example being C Chip Hare of Massillon, OH who was a prized recruit until he was injured his senior year and a lot of schools backed off. This allowed UD to get him, although the Chipster never quite lived up to his press clippings while he was a Flyer.
-- Hadn’t seen this one posted anywhere previously: it’s an in-depth interview with future Flyer Juwan Staten from jjhuddle.com:

-- Another profile from jjhuddle.com, this one on Stevie Taylor, the diminutive PG from Gahanna, OH:

-- It’s good to be king. According to Rivals.com, Coach K had 2010 prospects Josh Hairston of Spotsylvania, VA (#14) and Tyler Thornton of Gonzaga, WA (#54) in for unofficial visits to Duke over the weekend and they both verballed. BG should have it that easy, eh?
-- Ever wonder what happens if you fall into a black hole? Well, for starters, you die:

-- I used to check the “Visitors Section” on Clark Francis’ HoopScoop.com on a regular basis, but not any more:
http://www.hoopscooponline.com/visit...-visitors.html
Francis hasn’t updated it since August 12th –- that’s over a month ago, dude. I realize I’m not paying anything for it, but still.
-- Nice profile on the late Don Haskins by his replacement in El Paso, Jason Rabedeaux, courtesy of the Hometown Coach Mark Adams:

-- The new President of the OHSAA Board of Directors is Mike Richards, a UD grad:
http://www.ohsaa.org/news/misc/Richa...AA%20Board.pdf
Another member of the OHSAA Board of Directors is former Flyer hoopster Gene Klaus.
-- Speaking of the OHSAA, it looks like they caught Toledo St. John’s (the alma mater of one Brian Roberts) in some manner of basketball recruiting violation. Here’s a quote from the minutes of the OHSAA meeting:
“The Board of Directors was provided with a list of schools that recently violated OHSAA bylaws or sports regulations. Toledo St. John’s Jesuit High School’s boys basketball team had an assistant coach violate Bylaw 4, Section 9, Recruiting, and, in accordance with the bylaw, the student shall has been declared ineligible for interscholastic athletics for one year from the date of enrollment should he choose to attend St. John’s beginning with his freshman year in 2008-09. In addition, in accordance with Bylaw 12, the assistant coach has been reprimanded.”
-- Flenard Whitfield of Detroit Martin Luther King HS stuck with his LOI commitment to hoop at Western Michigan, despite some sudden, last-minute, high major attention from several football powers:

Good for him. And he’s right –- the NFL will always be there.
-- One of my new favorites for Ohio/Michigan basketball recruiting poop is T.J. Kelley’s InsidePrepSports.com. They have a “Quick Hitters” section that is top notch and chock full of updated info, such as the fact that 2010 SF Ralph Hill from Westerville North recently made an unofficial visit to UD:
http://insideprepsport.blogspot.com/
-- For Michigan info, Jamal Richards offers WeFlyHighBallers.com, which currently has BG target Anthony Fields ranked as the #5 prospect in Michigan for the Class of 2010:
http://www.freewebs.com/michiganball...errankings.htm
One thing to keep in mind about young Mr. Fields: he transfers into Detroit Southeastern HS from suburban Lake Orion and joins a squad with some outstanding young talent, with no expectations that he needs to be “the man.” That mantle will rest on the shoulders of 6’5” Brandon Kearney, a talented rising sophomore CG who is already attracting high major attention, as well as fellow Class of 2011 player 6’7” PF Percy Gibson and freshman-to-be 6’4” SF Dayshawn Crim. Everybody into the talent pool!
That’s it “From the Swamp.”
