VCU game
Hopefully Flyers put this one away early to give some of our starters some rest.
Whole team except Harris wearing pink shoes. I’ve often wondered if new one time shoes affect on court performance.
Layfield has several names written on her shoes. The only one I’ve been able to read clearly so far is “Steve”

Not shooting it well so far, but we are so much bigger and more physical than VCU they cannot stay with us. First quarter rebounds 15-8.
Good to see Dennis and Ward playing.

19-8 Flyers end of quarter 1. Put up the last 10 points of the quarter. Wilmoth playing well - couple of buckets and a couple of assists. Subbing liberally late - Ward, Dennis, Philips.

Love Scaife. She is such a shooter. She misses a few and just keeps shooting with good form.
Goodnight, now Harris hurt.

For as bad as VCU is they sure don’t foul much.

Because they play poor defense. If someone gets open they never try to help, they just watch. They covered the outside okay, but on the interior they are a disaster. We had 22 of 40 points in the paint.

47-25 Flyers. 5 fouls and 4 turnovers in first 5 minutes of 3rd quarter. Need to clean things up a bit. VCU unable to cut into lead, however.

It was funny when the Russian guard on VCU overplayed Burdetter twice and poked the ball. After that second one Jenna blew by her and left her standing and beat her 6'6' country mate for a layup.

Half those rebounds she had no business getting she just works harder than the others for the ball.

We have warmed up the bus. Getting out rebounded, turnovers and poor defense. VCU has 8 offensive rebounds this half, and we have 8 turnovers this half.

Putting the starters back in didn't seem to make much difference. If the game had lasted 5 more minutes it would have been very, very close.
__________
It's been said that "You're as good as your record says you are." Well, our Flyers have a good record...very good. But, my oh my, they can play badly. There are perhaps 10-20 very good women's teams. Get to the Dance and catch one of those in the first round and I don't think it will be pretty. Just an opinion.
The "levity on the bench" doesn't reflect well on the coaching staff.

Pretty ugly second half. Too many turnovers and too many fouls. You could see things start to unwind in the first 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter - although VCU was not able to score much at that time. As the half progressed they started to score and we never cleaned things up.
A couple of camera shots of some levity on the bench kind of said we didn't have our heads completely in the game.

Wow they made that interesting with some lackadaisical play in that fourth quarter.
Is Cannatelli dating DD? They are scarily alike the last two games. She just goes brain dead at times, like the two times she turned at full speed with her head down into the defender, and her lack of defensive effort today was maddening. She is aiming the ball at the rim instead of stroking it. All in her head right now.
Jenna and JaVonna put us head and shoulders above the rest of the league, but we cannot let down against Fordham at home.

Burdette moves up another spot into 17th place in career scoring with 1220 -- next up Stefanie Miller (1254).

She has a chance to get in the top 10 all time if she can keep to her average and get a few games post season.

Her knack of being able to find a small hole in the interior defense and driving to the basket is uncanny - such a smart player - can tell she was schooled well by her parents coaching her at the high school level. I could definitely see her playing overseas.

Jenna's drive down the lane and the mini-hook she put up left handed at the start of the third period has to be on my all time list of best shots by a Flyer.
