TN vs tOSU
In past years this might have been streamed??? With ESPN+ it’s just the UD matches. It’s too bad because this should be another very good match.
Last weekend there were 4 strong teams up at Pitt. This weekend there are 3 and if you don’t take care of business, Evansville can pull an upset.
I was also hoping to see some of the SLU matches this weekend but I wasn’t leaving UDs 5-Setter last night to pop out to SLU.
Planning to “watch” live stats on this one. Probably rooting for TN to help their rpi. Big10 will prop up tOSU. SEC will help TNs. But if both could get above 50 - it helps UD if we need an at-large. I don’t think we will, but who knew we would have so many injuries?

TN got a 3-5 point lead and didn’t give it up until 23-21 and 23-22, but closed it out 25-22 to take st 1.
tOSU changed setters a little over halfway thru. Olivia Dailey started but Becca Maurer finished the set. Without video hard to tell why.

tOSU wins set 2 25-21. Both these teams made late runs to challenge for the set, but the team that had a 3-4 point lead held on to win. When we play tOSU tonight we need to get that early lead and be prepared for their push at the end.
Match tied 1-1.

Does the host of the invitational set the schedule/ times?? If so, I am curious why we would not have played the first game today when the court would be cooler and give us more rest for tonight, now OSU has that advantage.

TN wins 3rd 25-22. tOSU got a 3 pt lead at 12-9, it TN scored the next two. TN took a 4 pt lead later in the set and tOSU never led again. Got it to 18-19, but couldn’t take the lead.
TN needs to jump on them in the 4th and win this match. In all 3 sets, tOSU score the first point(s). They aren’t going to roll over.
Looking at play-by-play, the difference in this set was TNs block got going. Sometime it takes a set or two for the blockers to figure out Setter nuances and the timing of sets to hitters. That’s hard to pick up from film.
Molly in our line up changes our block, but we still appear to be the best blocking team this weekend. And TN is solid too.
I would guess UD is watching at least this 4th set.

I agree and my best guess is we didn’t think it would be high 80s-90s this late in the year and therefore went with later times in hopes we would have bigger crowds. Not many students up before noon on Saturday.
Evansville has the same schedule we had last weekend only probably a little better if matches don’t go 5 sets. tOSU has second worst to benefit the host team - UD.

tOSU brought their starting setter Olivia Dailey back in for 1 point at the end of set 3. She’s been playing the entire 4th. Not sure what happened, if anything.

TN up by 4 - 19-15. TO tOSU. 4 pts has been the key. Let’s see if TN can close this out.

TN wins. It was even up until 15, then Tennessee took control.

TN goes on 9-0 run to win 25-16. Last 3 points were Aces - which means tOSU probably folded mentally.
Great win by TN who is better than excepted. I looked at their wins so far and 5 are over teams in the 200+ rpis. Explains why they were 102 this am. SEC will help as well as matches this weekend. I think their schedule was built with early cupcakes because he last two years have been down years. New coach is doing a good job to rebuild this program. Glad we had them on the schedule this year. I hope we have them again at their place sometime in next two years.

Time to sweep Evansville an get out of the hot gym.
It’s been an unusually hot fall, but coaches like NE’s Cook and Penn State’s Rose have said they don’t like playing pre-conference tourneys where they have to play 2 matches in a day and they are moving away from venues that don’t have AC.
It’s something I think UD will need to look at in the near future. AC and a challenge system. I know you can’t host the NCAA second weekend without one and it’s just a matter of time before it’s required for the first weekend.
