Virginia thread
Good test today. Try to avenge 10 point loss last year. Two sophomores are their top scorers - Touissant and Willoughby. Virginia 1-2 close losses to Georgia and Mississippi State.

Big Cannatelli drive and hoop puts Flyers up 44-35 with 4:35 left in a very low-scoring game. Flyers looking tough on D. Scaife is one board away from a double-double with 15 points.

Wide open 3 in the corner for UVA to cut the FLyer lead to 8. Gotta close out. Then a travel to hand the ball back with 2:22 to play. Jenna having a tough game.

Cannatelli for 3 and then a strip at the other end! Flyers by 12 with one FT remaining and under 2 minutes to play. Has anyone seen the Cavalier bus? Hope it's warm on this cold day in Dayton.

Gutsy charge taken by Burdette, then 2 Cannatelli FT's to put Flyers up 55-43. Going back to the line with 59 sec left.

Flyers win 61-46 (9-9 after a quarter). Great hustle today. Scaife gets her double-double with 17 pts, 10 boards. 2 others in double figures in rebounding. Cannatelli with 14 points, a great late drive and score, and a dagger 3. Great job, Flyers!

U of V game thoughts
Looks like we did everything well but shoot.
Hopefully we will not need to play Jenna 40 minutes in most games.
Based upon early results, our season depends upon Harris and Layfield staying healthy and out of serious foul trouble. It is my understanding that help is coming in 2018 for the A-10 part of the season.

On Military Appreciation Day at the Arena today I appreciated the Flyers' toughness and determination. They just kept doing those Flyer things -- hustling, competing and gutting it out. Nice win!
UVA coach comment http://www.virginiasports.com/sports...111917aaa.html
“We could not make a layup today,” said Virginia head coach Joanne Boyle. “I don’t know how many layups we missed, but because of that, we were in transition defense all game. We got some great looks. It was an incredibly physical game, and I don’t think we matched that. I thought we were getting bumped, but we needed to finish some of those plays to take some of the pressure off. Dayton had a huge edge in rebounding today. We got a body on people, but they are so athletic, they jumped over us and we didn’t carve out enough space to get over-the-back calls.”

Virginia helped by taking lots of bad shots. They have no point guard. I thought UD was in trouble when Layfield got two fouls in the first quarter. Scaife showed discipline bypassing a three to drive to the basket. Depth is an issue ready for ward to join the team.

What a fun game to watch! A real run-and-gun game, albeit with a bunch of off target shots, that took Virginia's 6'9" center out of the game early. A good win for the Flyers.
Neither team shot particularly well, but there was lots of hustle and tough defense.
I really like how this team plays together, regardless of who's on the court. Really looking forward to conference play.

Did not see the game as I was in Charleston. Great win over a good program. This team is getting better and better and Ward will help. I was worried about size when the two bigs graduated, but this team rebounds better than any in recent years. Harris, Layfield and Scaife are studs.
