Buffalo Thread

Not a bad first quarter. Chandler with 2 ticky tack fouls when they are letting them play.

If we don't blow this undisciplined team out, there is something really wrong.

Go Flyers!

The second quarter has been horrible, not handling the ball well, some poor shot selection, and the officiating is down right atrocious.

21 to 17 with 4:47 till halftime.

Go Flyers

34 to 29 at the half. Nice work on defense by Ward and Dennis. A very physical game so far.

Don't know how Jones for Buffalo didn't get a technical. She charged the referee and she was in that referees face. The buffalo coach pulled her and told her don't ever do that ship again.

Hopefully, Chandler can come back in the second half and stay on the floor. She can shut that inside game down. The points in the paint has to be in favor of the bulls by a wide margin.

Scaife and Cannatelli know how to penetrate and kick back out. They did a nice job of this in the first half.

Go get em Flyers!

51 to 46 at end of 3. Blew a 12 point lead. Chandler has been called for some of the worst fouls. All I want is consistency on the calls.

Go Flyers

60 to 52 with 4:28 left.

Hang on Flyers. Fowler is killing us with her not protecting the ball.

Scaife and Chandler with 4 fouls each

Tough/ugly game to watch -- there was no game flow.

Whole game was 'chippy' on both sides. Jones eventually got her 'T' (may have been called a flagrant foul, actually) as did the Buffalo coach.

Chandler gets four fouls in five minutes of action -- ugh! Three of the four were borderline but she HAS to find a way to stay on the court.

Whitehead continues to impress. It boggles me why no offense flows through/to her.

Cannatelli moves into 25th place in all-time scoring (1021) -- seven away from 24 Nikki Oakland (1028).

4 fouls and 4 turnovers in 5 minutes. That is hard to do.

Kudos to Lauren, who did not shoot great, but good enough to lead us in scoring. Those 6-6 free throws were huge. And also to Ward, who had her best game as a Flyer with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Ward stepped up huge with Chandler sitting.

Needed this win. Buffalo was without a 14ppg scorer tonight -- that was about the difference. We lucked out in that regard but will take it. Fowler hit some big shots late. Made them miss just enough shots and finally got a couple rebounds.

Coughing up 19 TOs and surrendering 17 offensive rebounds however ain't gonna cut it long-term. We're still getting in our own way far too many trips down the court. And some players continue to take shots they dont have a license to take (my opinion). I want my bigs to play like a big and my guards to play like a guard. If we're 8-1 and beating everybody by 30, then perhaps we can afford to roll the dice on those possessions. Right now however every possession must be treated as precious and irreplaceable.

We are shooting 38% as a team this year. Bad shot selection and not great shooting when we are actually open. Cant beat many teams shooting in the 30s every night. The good news is our opponents are shooting just a hair less than that which all things considered against the competition we have faced is pretty commendable.

We're also -4.2 in rebounds per game, -2.7 in turnover margin, and -3.1 in steals per game. These numbers tell us all we need to know: we must start doing the fundamentals better -- blocking out and taking care of the ball. We do that and even with the anemic shooting percentage we can win some ball games with the defending.

Our first shot defending has been pretty doggone good all season so far. Its the second and third attempts that are killing us. Need to become a 1 and done defense.

to C. M. Rieman - How do we "...become a 1 and done defense" with poor rebounders ( Whitehead appears to be the exception)
