Fordham Game Thread
Best home performance of the year was the thrashing of Fordham, probably equal with the road performance of Georgia Tech. Consistency needed tonight - strong starts are fine but fourth quarter collapses are not. Held Cavanaugh to 11 last time so Jayla will probably be on her tonight quite a bit. Won the boards by 12 last time. Shot 55% from the field in that one. Shaq had 15 off the bench.

15-12 Fordham at the end of quarter 1. Pretty much as we have been used to seeing over the last month - poor shot selection and inability to finish inside. Rams also seem to have more energy and fire than the Flyers.

After 2 quarters - Flyers shooting 35% and Rams 37%. This team just cannot shoot straight - much of that due to poor shot selection, mechanics and fundamentals. Hard to win when you cannot put the biscuit in the basket.

Man that was ugly. Shooting has really been the bane of this team.
If you live by the three, you die by the three...

True, but for naught if you can't put up points.

Indeed. 33% shooting does not cut it. It was brick city tonight - much like most nights recently.

2 -10 road record. Bismal performances and effort. No floor leader. When Lauren and Jayla aren't hitting which has been the norm last few games this team is toast.

Flyers will likely end up in fourth if they beat St. Louis and likely play Richmond or St. Bonaventure next Tuesday while a loss could drop them to seventh and potentially bring umass back. Fourth is contingent on Davidson losing to VCU. Davidson comes off losing to Rhode Island

Putting the biscuit in the basket has been the storyline in almost every game this year. Abysmal shooting once again dooms us. This isnt just bad shooting either. Its atrocious. Consistently atrocious.
We've shot over .400% just twice in the last 10 games. TWICE. Shot under .360% SIX times in the last 10 games including TWICE under .300%.
Season FG% is .373% which is on pace to set a program record for lowest ever.
Defensive FG% however is a steller .355%. We allowed .356% FG from the field last year when we went 23-7 so defense has not suffered. I recognize the A10 is way down this year but you still make to make shooters miss and we do that in spades for the most part.
Even the Elite-8 team allowed .366% DFG% -- but they did shoot .444%.
In my opinion its less about our specific offensive sets and more about a lack of speed, strength, and athleticism. We suffer from this inside in the inability to make layups or make baskets with contact. We suffer this on the perimeter from an inability to create our own shots off the dribble or come off screens fast enough to leave a defender behind. You typically move less on defense because you're switching screens/players and sometimes playing zone, so we can get away with it at the other end.
