Coach Jabir's Season

There have been plenty of harsh words regarding the departure of Coach Jabir from UD and with this post there will probably be more. His team concluded a 5-25 season at Florida Atlantic last night losing to Old Dominion 60-32 and they finished 2-14 in Conference USA. They did have EIGHT freshmen on this year's roster so hopefully better times are ahead. Criticize if you wish but all the success of past years is ATTRIBUTED to he and his staff.

I think he will build that program into a contender in the CUSA within a couple of years if he has the support of the administration. Like ours, that program was a disaster when he took over. It is a long process.
It was in his 5th year we made our first NIT, 6th win our first NIT game, 7th our first NCAA appearance and win.

Agreed -- sometimes you have to tear down to build up. No doubt he will soon establish winning culture.

According to the game recap, FAU only had six healthy/available players against ODU. They played ODU earlier in the week to finish the CUSA season and lost by four.

But yeah, after last season I really thought he'd hit career 500 wins this season.

You are right Barney he gets credit for building up the program. That being said he also deserves the heat for walking out on his players, program and fans.

Basically he lied, stating he needed to get away from basketball for his health and wanting to spend more time with his fsmily. Fast forward only a month or so from his departure. No one would hold it against him for leaving for the reasons given. But lo and behold he takes a coaching gig in Denmark far from his family. So coaching wasn't his real reason for leaving, otherwise he wouldn't have jumped right back in so quickly. Did he have a miraculous recovery in just two months.

The proper thing would have to take leave of absence then evaluate his health, then under proper guidance from his doctor do as necessary. No one recovers from major health issues in less than two months.

His departure caused UD to lose two recruiting classes. If not for Shauna Green being redily available this program could very well returned to the status it was before Jabir took over.

So he gets all the credit in the world for building the program and all the heat for nearly destroying what he built.

He should have more honest and forthright, as his actions did not follow his words.

Wish him the best in his new endeavors but call a spade a spade.

Health is more than physical. It may have been a mental stress caused by the pressure from school admin, supporters, fans and finally what he put on himself. Leaving UD and going to another program with lower expectations may have been what he needed.

I appreciate what he did for the program and glad he coached the ladies. While I, like many of you, didn't like the way he left, he left the program with a strong foundation. Lastly, at senior night one of the practice players was Jabir's son. Still a Jabir helping the program.

Very dissapointed that we out of towners didn't get to see the ceremony. As for jj we knew he had heart problems and can see where he added stress due to an opponent he'd be facing that year. Yes he built a solid foundation but not for Shauna Green able to step right in and keep it going it could have crumbled losing two recruiting classes.

Employers cannot disclose reasons for why an employee is terminated or resigns. They can only make a generic statement. What I am saying is we may never know why Jabir left, and it can be a entirely different reason than we think. Of course it is none of our business, and does not imply it is not a good reason.

Recently the most popular, and best weatherperson in our market resigned after 38 years. He said he was having problems and needed to walk away and fix his life. A year ago he took a leave for several months. He came back and seemed fine, and then quit. Lots of editorials and blogging of regret from other folks and speculation about his psychiatric problems. A few days ago I found out through a mutual friend, the true problem. I will not disclose it, since it would not be ethical, but it is different than what everyone is guessing.

With no doubt. Jabir built this program but it was good that he left when he did because he would've sunk the ship. You'll never know the real reason Jabir resigned unless you are close to the program..There's always a cover up with stuff like this. Green has done well, out of 3 years - She's had 2 marvelous seasons and one that hasn't been the greatest. 2 NCAA tournaments & 3 conference championships. Don't get me wrong, Jabir could coach! His basketball mind was genius more times than not.

Flyer34 Shauna didn't win the A10 championship this year. So she did have two NCAA appearances and two A10 championships not 3. One regular season, one tourney championship.
