WHO ARE THE BEST AVAILABLE 3-POINT MARKSMEN?
The Nike circuit showcases some of the very best available 3-point shooters that remain available at this time. Aaron Falzon is one of those guys that has been known for consistently hitting off the catch from all the way out to 25-feet from beyond the arc. Yes, he can be streaky at times and has been labeled as a face-up 4-man standing near 6’8, but his abilities to take over a game is quite impressive. The Expressions forward has developed shades of toughness and rebounding of the ball but he never gets away from what has made him such an intriguing prospect. Many high major programs have had the wait-and-see approach with the Northfield Mount Hermon product, while others like Boston College, Northwestern, Creighton, and Providence have already passed on a scholarship. With a few solid looks at the rim in July, those waiting could end up on the list to have dished out a full ride to the Massachusetts native.

Szczerbiak for sure. Or Doug McDermott. Can't say he reminds me too much of anyone who has worn a UD uniform... Maybe Coby Turner a little bit with CJ all around game. But he looks pretty great whoever he looks like.

He must have been waiting for Tim Williams' decision. Didn't take long after that. Great job by Archie to have an excellent plan A and plan B in place for that scholarship slot.

One post has him at 6'6" and most at 6'8". Any documention on which is correct? Maybe it's the shoes.
Update: Scout now has him at 6'7". This is almost comical.

Scout also has listed on verbal commits that we got a commitment from SF Carrick Felix
from college of Southern Idaho ,----- but after further review his middle name is Xeyruis
so after more review he now plays with the Cleveland Cavs. So much for my instant excitement ,

Ryan Mikesell – ’15 SF Saint Henry: After missing the TDP Spring Tune-Up due to baseball last weekend, we were excited to see Mikesell’s progress with All-Ohio Black this weekend. The 6’6 small forward more than impressed in multiple viewings, leading All-Ohio Black to the 17u Gold crown, in front of a plethora of mid-major coaches. Mikesell has great size on the wing and is a smooth and skilled player with a good feel for the game. Able to pass it, score off the dribble or shoot the jumper, he’s one of Ohio’s most versatile guys in the class, and a growing commodity in the eyes of MAC coaches. More athletic then your average forward, Mikesell’s inside-outside presence should help him continue to improve his recruiting stock as he leads a very strong AOB group.

Pardon if this is addressed elsewhere, but prospect named Travis Atson was scheduled for a visit. Anyone know if it happened? Looks like an Aaron Craft clone.

Ryan Mikesell – ’15 St. Henry SF: Just two days after securing a commitment from a local prospect in Huber Heights Wayne PF Xeyrius Williams, the Dayton Flyers extended a scholarship offer to another local prospect in Mikesell. An AAU teammate of Williams’ with All-Ohio Black 17u, Mikesell had a standout spring on the circuit, including a signature performance on championship Sunday at the King James Classic in Akron during the April evaluation period. While he had been attracting mostly just mid-major interest up until the Dayton offer, several scouts have been quietly thinking that Mikesell could end up at the mid-major plus level. With his skill-set, size and smooth feel for the game, Mikesell has an offensive game that could translate well to college basketball.

Mikesells from what I can gather is one of those guys who stuffs a stat sheet. Does everything well. Shoots, passes, rebounds, even blocks shots (long wing span). Seems like he would be a great get but I am a little surprised that he would be offered right after Xeyrius. Based on the roster and available scholarships, would not think a wing in 2015 would be a target now. Unless Xeyrius really does project as a 4. But as Mikesells and Xeyrius are AAU teammates, it should be somewhat established how well they play together. Kind of a Scott/Robinson situation (only HS and not AAU teammates). But if Mikesells were to commit, we'd have one schollie available which I would think would be for a center, pushing the ability to recruit a PG to the 2016 class.

Agreed - Rogers and Pierre should secure the 3, with Cooke and Williams able to shift to the 3 as well. 2016 seems like the Year to get another wing.
Although the would give us incredible size and depth among our wing players!

We have offers to other guys, some better than these two. Who knows if X keeps his verbal commitment or Miller keeps his. We have now gone to a different style and level of recruiting.

Mikesell seems like he could be a good/great shooter. Post Sibert he could be that guy who hits 40%+ and stretches the floor. Not sure anyone currently is knock down shooter on the roster like that
maybe Archie sees him and X as versatile enough to play both forward spots

@coryevans_10 2015 We R 1 gyard John Crosby tells me he has been offered by VCU, Dayton, and Southern Methodist
Sounds like a kid who has been fairly heralded but needed a year of prep ball. Bigger, pass first facilitating PG out of Baltimore. Here's some good info on him:

According to that piece, Rutgers is recruiting him for this coming year and not 2015. I wonder if Archie is as well.

If he is doing a year in prep school, then he probably does not have the grades. Wonder what Rutger's angle is?

It could be too that he didn't get the offers or attention from schools he wanted and hoped to increase his profile with a year of prep school.

If that is the case, we don't have to worry about him taking Rutgers this year.

Dayton apparently has offered Milik Gantz, a 2015 PG from Harrisburg, PA.
http://cityofbasketballlove.com/2014...tebook-part-1/
The part about Milik is towards the bottom
With four offers from Radford, Sacred Heart, Rider and Boston University, Milik Gantz (2015/Bishop McDevitt, Pa./Team PA) has picked up some new interest since the July live period has started. Florida Gulf Coast, Wichita State, Hofstra and Dayton have all reached out to Gantz

Here's some interesting recruiting data comparing NBE to A10....

Gawd only knows if Butler will ever recover from Brad Stevens departure and whether SHU and SJU will bounce back. I still like the profile of the A-10, BTW, and would be happy to stay put should the NBE come calling (I have to admit that the dough is enticing and may be too good to pass up.)

Everything starts will recruiting and coaching. According to ESPN team rankings for 2014 recruiting, Georgetown 8, Seton Hall 12, Xavier 22, Providence 26, Nova 36. In comparison for the A10, only VCU 14 has a class ranked in the top 40. I suspect, UD, GW, UD, SJ, Richmond are right in the next tier. IMO the top 25 is where UD wants to be with recruiting.
In terms of coaching Ed Cooley is a strong recruiter who's making Providence relevant. Kevin Willard is solid coach for Seton Hall as well. Mack (we all hate him), Jay Wright, and JT3 are proven recruiters.
It seems like Butler, Marquette, Creighton are in transition. DePaul is a train wreck.

Dayton target Raymond Spalding committed to Louisville. His very first offer was from Archie.

No surprise on either end of his recruitment: that Archie was able to ID him early and that he went big time. Carlton Bragg, Esa Amhad, VJ King, Kipper Nichols and Seth Towns will end up the same.

Brechting sounds pretty good as a true center candidate. Sounds like he is bulking up to catch up with height and lots of big programs are sniffing. Interesting prospect to keep an eye on for sure.

It seems like the breadth of interest for this young man is widening. We could use a dominating center. I think it would really round out the future roster.

Agree. If Archie really sees D. Davis as a PG as he's indicated, I think a center would be the most ideal addition to the roster in the 2015 class.

No doubt this is the size kid Archie wants. I hope we can land him and not end up with another wing player. With only one scholly left we have got to get a kid over 6"8".

Sounds like a very long shot. He is hoping for Michigan or Michigan State to make an offer and it appears they are waiting to see if he continues to develop. So if he continues to develop he is most probably going to one of the Michigan Schools and if he does not develop does Dayton really want him? So if he continues to develop it will take a super sales job to get him to UD.

Flyingarrow I know you just started that thread but I thought we get this thread back up and running again after a 2 month hiatus.
UD has a very important couple weeks of visits coming up... PGs John Crosby next weekend and Donnell Gresham the weekend after that

2015 recruits
The other locked thread served us well, but wrapped up in that expansive thread were a thousand different thoughts at this point in it's tenure.
It makes more sense to have class-specific threads for each year.

We have a beast in X Williams
Xeyrius Williams (6'8 SF/PF / Huber Heights Wayne / 2015):
Deserving of a ranking in the top 250 of the national class of 2015, Williams was a flat out beast alongside Ahrens on Sunday. A difficult matchup for most defenses, Williams has the length to be successful in the post, while being athletic and skilled enough to score anywhere from 24-feet and in. An active rebounder that is especially effective on the offensive glass, Williams is a tremendous addition to Archie Miller's 2015 class at Dayton.

Easily the crown jewel of Archie's 2015 recruiting class, can't wait to see him play next year!

So you think he's going to be the best of his class? He sound great, but I think most would have the highest expectations on Sam Miller of the three 2015 incoming 2015 guys.

Found this in an old (5/9/12) interview with Crosby. Thought it was interesting nonetheless:
“It was more of an academic decision,” Crosby said. “At Poly, they have the engineering type of field. That’s what I want to do. I want to be a chemical engineer. I just thought it would be better to go to an engineering high school, graduate from there and go to a good engineering college. It was just a great fit for me.”
Sounds like a smart kid (3.8 at the time of the article) whose prospect status may have plateaued a bit (which isn't to say he doesn't have a tremendously bright future).
One last quote from his AAU coach, “He’s just been a great addition, man, a great addition to the team,” Oliver said. “He’s a true point guard that can knock down the open shot. His decision-making is great. He’s getting better defensively."
http://articles.baltimoresun.com/201...or-engineering
Interesting to note that both guards that Archie seems to be targeting (Crosby and Gresham) are even-keeled, run the ship type PGs; both also have good size.

Corey Evans @coreyevans_10 · 4h
2015 Team Rose guard Marlon Stewart may also take visits to Dayton and Wichita State in the coming weeks @ny2lasports
Stewart is 6'1" PG from Iowa, we have not offered him yet it looks like.
I personally don't believe the visit will come to fruition because I fully believe either Crosby or Gresham could drop in the next couple weeks

He's sitting out this season anyways (and would have at UD as well), but hip surgery on a spry 20ish year old kid is rarely a good thing. Perhaps the Flyers didn't miss out on much due to this injury, guess we won't know either way for at least another year. good luck on the recovery young kid, hope you get your game back.

It doesn't count against them until they show up on campus...just because you have 14 LOI's signed doesn't mean you'll have 14 show up in August.

That is a funky situation. Does everyone on the inside know that someone will not be there next year? Or is it that everyone accepts the - these things have a way of working themselves out? Or is it everyone "under contract" wondering if they are the odd man out?

In most years, whoever is at the back of the bench would look to transfer. We probably won't have a back-of-the-bench this year. We have 9 players active. 10 once Rogers is healthy. I think they'll all play.
We'll lose 2 seniors and gain 4 freshmen plus 2 red-shirts become active. Hopefully we don't lose any of the 6 new players (although that has happened). And who of the others would you expect to not get a lot of playing time this year? Scoochie, Sibert, Pierre, Robinson, Scott are all virtual locks to get major PT. Pollard and Rogers, too, just due to our lack of size. That leaves Bass - who graduates anyway. And DDavis - who is a freshman with high expectations. He'll either play a lot (so why leave?) or not, but then he's just a freshman so that's not so surprising. And then KDavis. He got the fewest minutes of the freshmen last year, but I think he'll get plenty of PT this year.
Ultimately, the only way a player this year doesn't get much PT is if they aren't performing - there isn't a numbers-crunch this year. So if everyone plays well, there's likely to be one person with hurt feelings next year. If someone plays poorly - doesn't get minutes - look for them to transfer.

I don't doubt that. The question is in what year? He is the one player that has all the tools to take over a game.

Pierre is a bit of a tweener for the NBA. I think he has a great chance, but only if he has a huge huge year.
I suspect Rogers and his tendonitis is a big question mark.

The bigger question is - In what country? There is money to be made in all kinds of places. I would not blame anyone for leaving to make some money rather then to play for free (I know , free education ). The years to do that are limited.

Chris Wright eventually got his chances in the NBA. Pierre actually is not the freak athlete, but trumps all the weaknesses that CW had. Pierre has much more court sense, and a better handle, rounded game. I see Pierre eventually getting a legitimate shot at the NBA--more than just a token summer league look, or NBADL stint.
It will be interesting to see what '15 recruit can replace Pierre.

If anyone is interested, Brechting verballed to Oakland today. Staying local. Good for him.
Prior target Jaylen Poyser verballed to UNLV a little bit ago. He had been offered by UD, and I know URI, I think maybe Bona as well.

Pierre is not going to leave after this year unless he all of the sudden becomes a conference player of the year type of player, which he did not show at all last year except in brief flashes.
He's not even projected on the first team. He's not going pro early unless he wants to play in Europe for a couple years.

Instead of going after a JuCo or transfer, looks like Archie may not be done adding to our freshman class in Kyle Alexander, a 6'10 F from Canada with a 7'2 wingspan
http://hoopshype.ca/kyle-alexander-s...sit-tennessee/
The article lists Rice, Tennessee and SBU as only official visits so far, with Dayton, Missouri, Auburn, WKU and New Mexico as other schools in running.
The kid is from Canada and just started playing basketball 2 years ago, which explains why he has flown under the radar. SBU was on him first, and if that tells us anything, that's a good thing as they have a skill at finding diamonds in the rough from Canada. They were only D1 school to offer Andrew Nicholson (A10 POY, now in NBA), and they were the first to recruit some kid named Dyshawn Pierre.

If this quote from his dad carries any weight, it's unlikely he lands at UD:
“Kyle also wants to study film. If they don’t have his program that wouldn’t be a consideration. I go to a movie with him and he’s like Dad do you know how they made that scene, all he talks about is cameras, angles… he seems to be really interested in that stuff.”

I hope the young man watches a lot of video of his play on the court. It is a good way to get better in a short period of time.
