UD RPI showing A-10 3rd rated conference right now (Colonial 2nd). It will not last, but strong start to the season. Also A-10 is 33-8 on the season.

It would appear that our OOC schedule is turning out to be stronger than first thought. Number of teams getting impressive wins against bigger schools. As we saw yesterday W&M can play with anybody.

Our OOC schedule has been fine for years! Our OOC schedule has not been the reason we haven't been in the NCAA tournament in the past 10 years (give or take a year or two) IMHO------losing to many games or a "bad" loss at home or on the road has been our teams downfalls!
Anyone who knows Neil S. knows he's a number guy---a "geek" on some levels when it comes to scheduling, etc. At Tim;'s side the past several years he has given us plenty of opportunities to play into March-------so very glad he is in charge now that TW decided it was "time" to leave!
AM and Neil make a great team------2 "junkies" who have the same goals--------the NCAA EVERY YEAR and lots of WINS in March!
Again, often 3-4 posters hear and elsewhere complain because the schedule isn't "sexy" enough for them---I understand, but there are reasons for every game scheduled just like the "spot" for this W & M game. Right before the team practices for a couple days and leaves for Orlando!

Relax fan, I agree with you our OCC has been fine it was in conference that caused most of the grief. I was simply pointing out that our OOC opponents have had success against teams that were expected to win and that those wins enhance our OCC schedule.

OOC does look like it's shaping up to be fine this year. But it almost got us left out of the tournament last year.

The NCAA Committee has consistently over-valued top 50 and particularly top 25 wins. It was not just a 2014-2015 phenomean -- dance card clearly shows it over the past 10 years. http://www.unf.edu/~jcoleman/dance.htm Because the A-10 will lack top 50 teams, we need top 50/25 OOC wins.
UD's schedule is optimized for RPI, but not for top 50/25 OOC wins/games unless we beat Iowa. If we beat Iowa, the schedule is great (Iowa, ND, W. St/ Xavier, and @Vandy). If we lose to Iowa, UD's only top 50 non-con game will be @Vanderbilt. We were last in 2014-2015 because we had 1 top 50 win and 3 losses.

Actually, as of today's rpiforecast, W&M would be a top 50 team. Also, URI who we play twice.

We focus a bit too much on what happens to us if we finish second or lower in the A10 Tournament. There is one irrefutable way to be in the NCAA's. It's the one way to insure we don't get screwed by the "last team in" treatment again.

Monday 11/23:
Duquesne (+2.5) vs Pepperdine
St Johns (+17.5) vs Vandy (In Maui)
Mercer (+12) @ Davidson
Lafayette @ LaSalle
NKU (+24.5) @ Xavier (surprised they are playing a game today prior to heading down to Orlando)
Northridge (+18.5) @ USC, even more surprised seeing as they have to travel cross country to get to Orlando
Clemson (-7.5) vs UMass (at the Men Who Speak Up Main Event Heavyweight????? it says????)
Chattanooga (+16) @ Iowa St

lots of open looks, Vandy taking advantage and knocking them all down. Great ball movement, in/out, swing passes, quick passes, open threes. They make it look easy.

Because we've only won the A10 tournament once. It's not like we are perennial conference champs or something. Have never won a regular season conference title and only won a conference tournament twice.

So yesterday was another good day for the A10
Vandy crushed St John's as noted, up 30+ at half and never looked back
Pepperdine beat up Duquesne by 14
Davidson knocked off Mercer 77-71
LaSalle beats 83-75 as Price goes off for 33
Chattanooga was dumped at Iowa St by 20
Xavier knocks off NKU by 12 at home
USC crushed Northridge (still not sure why either school played last night, not that it likely matter much for USC, but X could have tired legs by Sunday if they hope to win in Orlando)
UMass doubles up Clemson in the 1st half and wins by 17.
If the A10 can keep this up for the next couple of weeks, then gets the separation that Phil always talked about, could be looking at a 5 bid league. Lots of work left to do OOC, but things are looking good so far for the A10 this season.

And both of those were at home. If we win the A-10 Tourney we are in the dance. Everybody knows that. There is nothing to discuss. The topic that lends itself to discussion is what it will take for us to get an at-large bid.

Could eventually remove that tOSU loss to UTA as a "bad loss". Might even help the Buckeye's RPI before it's all over.

I'm watching two games up here in Columbus, Vandy is destroying Wake as expected, and OSU is getting beat 20 to 14 Louisiana Tech. Vandy looks scary, great motion offense and stout defense they remind me of the Flyers. Their defense seems good but Wake might just be really bad. OSU looks so unfocused it's sad. Seems like they thought they could show up and win without playing and La. Tech is taking it to them early.

Good day for the A-10
With only the Fordham game outstanding (Fordham up 16 on Colgate with less than 6 minutes to play), the A-10 went 5-0 today:
Gardner-Webb 65 @ GW 94
Duquesne 96 @ Milwaukee 92 (OT)
TCU 60 @ RI 66
St Bonaventure 77 @ Canisius 73
North Florida 57 @ St Louis 70

We wanted LSU to beat NC State. For RPI purposes, UD fans should root for: (1) UD of course: (2) A-10 teams; (3) UD's OOC opponents; and (4) basically the SEC.
Point #4 in more detail at http://www.rpiforecast.com/teams/Dayton.html -- go to the bottom of the page and see in order who we should root for. At the end of the season LSU will have a .19 impact on UD's RPI which is more than 6x the impact of NC State's .03.
Teams that we do not play that will have the most impact on UD's RPI for the season in order of impact are: Mercer, Hofstra, LSU, Ole Miss, FL, Tenn, Old Dominion, Buffalo, Western Carolina, Wofford, Drexel, Townson, FL Gulf Coast, Tenn. Tech, Penn State, Auburn, Kentucky, S. Carolina St. Miss. St., and Texas A&M. So UD fans should be rooting for these teams.
BTW, an argument could be made that William and Mary will be a borderline top 50 team so we would give up a few RPI places if it meant William and Mary being top 50.

Wednesday 11/25:
Duquesne vs Western Kentucky
LaSalle (-4) @ Penn
George Mason (-2) @ Manhattan
American @ VCU
Hampton @ William & Mary
Rhode Island vs #2 Maryland
UMass (+3.5) v Creighton
#19 Vandy v #5 Kansas
Tough day for the A10, only VCU is a lay-up, however, I think there's a good shot at 4-2 which I'd take in a second while holding out hope for a win or 2 more. Maryland hasn't been playing great, Rhody is still adjusting to life w/o EC Matthews.
William & Mary should win, Vandy game vs Kansas is interesting as both teams have been scoring a ton out on the Island.

Vandy vs Kansas tonight could be the game of the week. I hope Vandy pulls it off.

Stay classy, Danny Hurley. Way to represent the league...

Many are tweeting that Hurley was yelling homophobic slurs. If true, this will not end well.

I watched parts of the URI game...Hurley was outclassed twice once in the game and once after.
I also watched most of the Maui championship game between Kansas and Vandy. Kansas is a terrific team again, but Vandy hung with them all game long. Vandy is every bit as good as their rankings. playing them at their home court is going to be a big challenge.

Besides Hurley being involved, something about maybe a Maryland assistant? or a Maryland fan? being involved...something might have happened at a timeout with about 1 minute? left.
Some jawing in the handshake line it appears. Maryland hc appeared pretty upset.
Here is link with some video of the handshake line.

Maryland message board saying Hurley was telling Maryland fans to "meet him outside". Total meltdown.
Maryland (EDIT: RI) releases a statement saying they are "100% confident" RI did nothing wrong--odd that a dozen players + tournament officials have such a different opinion.

Would be nice if Rhode Island could put together a nice year, so that maybe some P5 school, that cares only about winning, pulls the jerk out of the A10. Hard to have much sympathy when it's a pattern of behavior.

The fact that there's only one side of the story is telling.
EDIT: I just saw this posted by a URI fan on the A10 board. The plot thickens.
----–----------------–-----------
URI Athletic Director Thorr Bjorn's statement:
“After extensive conversations with our head coach, staff and administrators who were on the floor for the post game handshakes, and reviewing video of the final moments of the game – including both teams during the handshakes – I am 100 percent confident that neither Dan Hurley nor any member of our coaching staff made any derogatory expletive remarks or offensive statements toward the Maryland student-athletes,” Bjorn said. “Any report, rumor or allegation to the contrary is false.”

USC beats W State. As long as beat Iowa or Momouth, we get at least 2 top 50 games. Beat Iowa and get 3. Big win by USC for US!

USC mounting a little comeback, I'm a bit torn. Do I root for _avier, in the hope of a championship game that should happen twice a year in Ohio? Or, do I root for USC, simply because of who they're playing? Hmmmm...

Avery Johnson is certainly happy with the Alabama win over Wichita State a ranked team, but without VanVleet, Wichita may not be that strong a team, it appears. That said, I like the bump to our RPI. Incredible that Wichita could go through this tourney without a win as they play ND or Iowa on Sunday.

Providence just knocked off Arizona. Announcer said, "Elliott Pitts cannot guard Kris Dunn. In fact, I don't think anyone in the country can guard Kris Dunn."
Guess he didn't see the Dayton/Providence game last March.

Watching Monmouth v. USC and becoming a Monmouth fan. The Hawks are up 1 with 6:37 to play in the 1st half. Strangely, the Monmouth bench's antics do not bother me as much when someone else is playing them.

Monmouth beat USC. Robinson set a tourney scoring record. That was a good win for us.
The announcers mentioned the Dayton fans a couple of times and said that the championship game would be a "sea of red."

George Mason crushed our neighbors to the east yesterday, 66-39.
Fordham had a nice win over Manhattan.
GW lost by 5 to UC.
SLU lost at a neutral site to Louisville.
And the Bonnies dropped a close home game to Hofstra.

Alabama knocks off Notre Dame!
Bama does not look like the same team we clobbered by 30+, maybe they will provide a nice little RPI boost for us before the season is over. Back to back games they have beaten top 25 teams (if you count WSU)

Our expected RPI for the year is 21.7 with a record of 10-2 OOC and 13-5 in conference for 23-7 overall (this does not include the A-10). 10-5 top 100 including 4-3 top 50. Yes very early, but this is a good place to be in after half the OOC schedule.
As mentioned, great tourney for our opponents at 8-4 -- Y 3-0, Monmouth 2-1, Alabama 2-1 (didn't count loss to Dayton), and Iowa 1-2. If you take out the wins/losses versus UD, it is an even more impressive 7-2.
http://www.rpiforecast.com/teams/Dayton.html
Challenge or opportunity is a lot of our potential top 50 wins are in the 30-70 range in RPI -- all potential A-10 top 50 teams as well as Iowa, W&M, Monmouth. So which side they fall in the 30-50 or 51-70 is very important for UD. Only teams locked into the top 50 barring something crazy are Y and Vandy.

As of this morning Lunardi and ESPN has our RIP at 15 with sos of 20. Rpi's of our remaining OOC foes as of this morning are 47,44,32,285,192, and 212. So far the Mocs are the best team we face. Like our chances except for at Vandy (44).

I'll stick with the site that the NCAA uses to back check their data for current RPI
19 (Chattanooga)
45 (N Florida)
48 (Vandy)
168 (Miami)
218 (Arkansas)
272 (Furman)
slightly different from the numbers you have listed above. Oh, and for the unaware, that site that the NCAA crosschecks their RPI numbers is UDPride.com

Does anyone know when Sagarin's predictor data stops being prejudiced by pre-season prognostications? I can't recall how many games into the season until there has been enough overlap to remove the influence of past seasons into his initial rankings. I'd assume if we are not there already, its got to be pretty close and the impact is small at the moment.
Also:
50 (Chattanooga)
114 (N Florida)
10.4 (Vandy)
180 (Miami)
154 (Arkansas)
222 (Furman)
Is the current OOC projections for the remaining teams at the moment. If UD can pick up a top 50 win over N.Florida, take a top 25 lose at Vandy, and knock off the rest, that would be a pretty solid OOC portion.
Vandy & @ Rhody are the only 2 games UD is an underdog at the moment based upon Sagrain's predictor, rpiforecast put the probability that UD only drops 2 more games at about 1% (and a top 3 rpi). If UD drops the 1 game @ Vandy, wins the rest OOC, then finishes 13-5 in conference play as the site predicts, that would be good for a top 15 rpi.
Long story short, yest the X game sucked, but long term, there is still a great opportunity for a top 6 seed at this point.

GT beat Arkansas by 10, but lost to Villanova by 17, and they are not getting good projections from the computer models, expected to go 16-15. Currently 4-2, that ETSU loss really hurts them.

first, last night N florida knocked off Trinity Baptist by 8, don't think it matters one way or another for rpi purposes.
Tuesday 12/1:
Davidson (-11) @ UNCC
Mississippi Valley St @ Duquesne
Richmond (+8.5) @ Florida
#13 Nova (-13) @ St Joes (don't know if this is at the Palestra or not)
ODU (+3.5) @ William & Mary
PIU (some non D1 school) @ Furman
Northwestern St @ Arkansas

From last night:
Davidson & Duquesne won with ease, as expected.
Richmond lost at Florida
SJU made a game of it, but lost to Nova at home
W&M escaped their game with ODU, picking up the win
Furman won 99-38 (why schedule that game exactly?)
Arkansas won easily over Northwestern St
ACC-B1G challenge is split 4-4 with 6 more games coming tonight. I guess GTech was the 1 ACC school not allowed to participate.
Oh, and Wright State (Wrong School) won over some non D1 school, OSU lost at home to UVA.

Wednesday 12/2:
Butler (4-1) (+6) @ #17 UC. I know it doesn't impact us, but a fun, local game.
St Johns (+6.5) @ Fordham (when was the last time St Johns was a dog to Fordham?)
Seton Hall (+7.5) @ GW
Hofstra (-3) @ LaSalle
Mason (-1.5) @ Towson
St Bonnies (-2) @ Buffalo
Boston U @ Umass
Holy Cross @ Rhody
North Florida (+10.5) @ LSU
Detroit (+21) @ Vandy
Morehead St (+4) @ St Louis
VCU (-5) @ Middle Tennessee St (nevermind)
Florida St (+5.5) @ Iowa
Interesting night for the A10, no huge games, favored in most, but not huge favorites in any (at least those with listed lines), and narrowly a dog in those they are not favored in. Its the kind of night that could be sneaky big/dissapointing for the conference as a whole. Need 6-2 at the absolute worst, while 8-0 could help everyone in conference raise their rpi at seasons end. I think the conference is currently 5th in OOC winning %, with the OOC about half way done, that is a decent spot for this conference, would be nice to get it up to 3rd or 4th, this is the kind of night that could help (or hinder) that effort.

They beat Division III Albion College from Michigan. It is a very small school with under 1400 students. My mom went there in the 1930's. When I saw this game I couldn't believe it. It wouldn't even be a decent Exhibition game.

And a few other bonuses for our RPI:
-Vanderbilt slaughtered Detroit (sorry, Mom)
-Notre Dame over Illinois
-Iowa over Florida State
There were a few RPI minuses tonight too, but I wanted to focus on the positive!

i watched last minute of Iowa win. You'd think that's a nice rpi pickup over time.
Way to go Hawkeyes.....

Very good "RPI" night for the Flyers. Moved up to 8 in RPI and 16 in SOS. Interestingly, we already have 4 top 100 wins, which is most in the country. Hopefully our opponents continue to stay in the top 100. We are well ahead where I thought we'd be at this point due to the success of our opponents thus far.

Tied for most with Xavier, North Carolina, and Michigan State.

A10 scores last night:
Towson 75 v. GMU 54
GW 72 v. Seton Hall 64
Hofstra 84 @ LaSalle 80
URI 74 v. Holy Cross 56
Fordham 73 v. St. John's 57
UMass 99 v. Boston U. 69

As mentioned above 6-3 night for the A10, which is OK, considering that they got all of the "big" ones, as well as a few sneaky good wins (like VCU on the road at Middle Tennessee St, but the LaSalle loss at home and the SLU drubbing at home by Morehead St (perhaps Crews was confused when his AD asked if he wanted Morehead) sting a bit, kept it from being a truly great night.
Duke drubs Indiana, which is 5-3 on the seasons. Of all the jobs in the country, this is the one I want to see succeed this season. It just feels like IU is itching to get rid of Crean, but the buyout last season was excessive (allegedly it drops a good deal after this season). I think Archie would be at or near the top of their list, I wouldn't blame Archie one bit for taking it, and I think he'd kill it there. I mean, I know its inevitable, to the point that I shouldn't worry about it, but this one just feels more plausible than any other scenerio I've seen to date (aside from Ohio St, but I think Thad got a decent size leash up there, only question at this point is his back)
