I like no. 8 A&M and my son in law is an Aggie grad; however, the RPI help to the Flyers won out and I am a Vandy fan tonight.

Great night. All opponents win except SEMO. Unbelievable finish to Utah/Oregon State game. Beavers up 2 and foul 3 point shooter with 2.2 seconds left. Utes make all 3 and go up 1. Utes then foul Beavers on a half court heave with .1 left. Beavers hit all 3 for the win. This helps us as Utes were seeded above us in many brackets and could have passed us in the RPI with a win.

Weekend watch, Friday 2/5:
Fairfield @ Monmouth
Sat 2/6:
GW @ VCU
SEMO @ E Illinois
#9 UVA @ Pitt
Cincy @ Memphis (Tiger couldn't knock down the dogs, can they do it to the Cats?)
Marquette @ #6 X
Davidson @ Duquesne (a win would about lock down a top 100 rpi for Duquesne)
Texas Tech @ Texas (w/ their big win @ Baylor, a victory could give the Longhorns a huge leap into the top 25, or close to it, TT needs the win to stay on the Bubble)
NC State @ Duke (Go Pack)
#10 MSU @ Michigan (Bubbly Michigan needs a win like this)
St Joes @ Fordham
#3 Nova @ #11 Providence (I hear Kris Dunn can't be guarded)

Valpo @ Illinois - Chicago (Valpo on the Bubble for an at large, not sure why)
Florida @ #20 UK
#18 Purdue @ #4 Maryland
#25 South Carolina @ #8 aTm (Still not sure why USC is on the bubble, let alone ranked)
#23 Zona @ Washington

UMass @ Richmond
#2 UNC @ ND
#22 IU @ Penn State (Hoosiers have been rolling, would be a big upset)
Rhody @ LaSalle
Vandy @ Ole Miss (keep up the momentum Vandy)
Tennessee @ Arkansas (see the note on Vandy, keep up the momentum)
#15 Baylor vs #14 WVU (WVU won at #13 earlier this week)
G'Town @ Seton Hall (Bubbly for both, more so G'Town)
#21 WSU @ Illinois St (not that it appears that WSU is going to lose again)
Gonzaga @ Pepperdine
Sunday 2/7:
I hear there is a Big Game that day?

Couldn't be more pleased with GW taking down VCU at VCU. Now we can be at the top of the A10 when the ranking is shown because of our better overall record.

I see Davidson #48 after win over Dukes. Flyers now 6-2 against top 50. Not sure how long that will hold today.

It is going to change all day, but right now Davidson, VCU, St. Bonnie's, and Chattanooga all top 50.
Don't think 'Bama or Vandy can sneak into top 50 today even with wins, but I could be wrong.

If Vandy wins, they look like will be 45-50. So the Flyers would be 7-2 top 50 which is impressive.

UD jumps Wichita State and Indiana. Should jump 15 Baylor and 11 Providence as both went 0-2 this week and have much weaker resumes than Dayton but AP voters might not be that dramatic. Should not jump 18 Purdue. So somewhere between 20-22.

Technically, Sid Louick, those 1st games played at Dayton to start the tournament, were originally called the FIRST round by the NCAA. Those teams that were 'in' but having to win at Dayton to enter the field of 64, essentially defines 'the last four at large' on the seeding pecking order as being 'byes'.. that is, last four NOT having to play and win to be in the 64
(which starts Thursday/Friday).
I assume here you know what a bye is in the common context.

South Carolina and Arizona had good wins yesterday, and may get bumped up. Those guys have football stadiums.

In the battle for who gets the first crack at Archie, Coach K beats Gottfried. Bad loss for NC State, as this was to be the year they finally beat Duke at Duke.
BTW Coach K, who turns 69 this week, was in the heart unit when he missed the game. Nothing serious found. He will also have knee surgery after the season.

South Carolina also had a bad loss at Georgia this week too. They shouldn't jump us, but we all know how that goes.
We are certain to jump Indiana and Wichita State, probably come in around 21/22.

I want to say that "I really don't care about where we are in the polls", but I'd be lying. I want to end up better than we were OP's final season before the NCAA's started. Almost as much as I want to win both the A10 regular season and tournament championship. This really may be the year we get every single monkey in UDMBB history off our back. Every. Single. One.

We just have to worry about "us" and take care of bid-nez. We're in a good position right now and all we have to do is to take every game seriously, one at a time, don't get ahead of ourselves and play our game. I know we're likely to have "off" nights (that's human nature) , but this is getting down to crunch time. If our kids can perform well, with a chip on thier collective shoulders, in some hostile "road" environments and come out ahead, we should be able to handle most opponents in the NCAAs.

The Bonnies are fighting for a Bubble Slot. Have a bunch of work to do, and i hope they win many and one or 2 in Brooklyn.
I also believe 20 or 21 ranking. Most likely 21.
Win 2 this coming week, should be 19 or under.

If (and I know it's a BIG IF) we can take the next three games, with two on the road, we will be in very good shape, not only for the A-10, but also for the NCAA. What I mean by that is that our kids will have learned how to play as the "hunted" in the league and how to do it in a hostile environment. The next ten days will be very important. Go FLAAAAARS!*
*Oops, Mea Culpa...sorry if this is a hijack of this thread, but I couldn't resist. Sorry.

In today's other game of note, the team that had been to the Super Bowl more often defeated the team that had been to the Super Bowl less often, 24-10.

They were in contention prior to the last 3 games, a 7-4 finish would have been good enough to get a bid, and 7-4 IMO was somewhat reasonable, but, now they have lost 3 in a row, so they will need to finish 7-1, which is highly unlikely. They are just about out of the picture for an at large bid. The Syracuse game was one that they needed to win IMO.
They have a pair of winnable games upcoming vs. Clemson.
They can also reasonably be expected to beat BC and Wake.
They needed the Syracuse win along with wins over Florida State and Pitt to get to 7-4.
Now, they will have to beat ND to make up for the Syracuse loss. I was not expecting them to beat Duke, Miami, or Louisville.

Wasting too many brain cells on Georgia Tech. If the ACC gets 12 bids, they have a chance.

Monday 2/8:
#19 Louisville @ Duke (Does Louisville come out ****ed off for the rest of their season, or do they throw it in? I think once they drop a game, its going to be tough to keep their focus, but until then, I think they'll play like they're on fire)
St John's at G'Town (still see G'town listed as a bubble team, though barely .500. Things are not going as hoped for Chris Mullins)
UNC Greensboro @ Furman (Furman in 4th, 1 game behind Mercer (see below))
Chattanooga @ Mercer (Mercer in a tie for 2nd, 2 games behind Chat.)
ND @ Clemson
Texas @ #1 (for now?) Oklahoma

I saw that Clemson lost at NC back in December, they have never won at NC, 58 losses in a row there...longest such losing streak in d1 possibly?

Wow, Buddy Hield is the man. He, once again, took over the game in the last five minutes. On a night he could not hit from the outside, he still did it at crunch time, and a couple of his drives to the basket over bigs were "how did he do that?" He is going down as one of the best college players of all time.
BTW I hate that type of basketball. The last ten minutes on offense were nothing but Hield and Taylor trying to score. Love our True Team approach.

CE80 is right on both counts - he's not me, and losing on the road to the number three team in the country on a last second shot doesn't harm Texas' resume.

I've never seen CE80 nor Glen in the same place, at the same time....
Tuesday 2/9:
#8 Mich St @ #18 Purdue
Mason @ Rhody
Cincy @ UCF (potential landmine on the road for Cincy's bubble hopes)
#10 WVU @ #6 Kansas
Pitt @ #12 Miami
Miami @ Western Michigan (hope for 2 in a row for Miami???)
Monmout @ Marist
#5 X @ Creighton
#25 WSU @ Drake (remember when drake was good for a couple of seasons?)
#1 Nova @ DePaul
Ole Miss @ Florida (Bubbly Florida can't afford an upset)
Georgia @ #22 UK (I guess Georgia is Bubbly)
Arkansas @ Miss St (keep on rollin Hogs, winnable road game)
Not a ton of games overall, but a lot of quality.

I have MORE hope for the Bonnies, now at 50.
4 easier games, 3 tougher. IF they can beat GW or ST Jo'es that should keep them above 50. In fact a loss to Joe's might not even drop them. Win the other 4 and don't drop one of those easy ones.

BTW, Xaiver was 21/70 from the field overall for 30%, 1/21 from 3 for 4.8%, and 13/20 from the line for 65%. I don't think they beat Depaul shooting like this ....
They lost despite +6 possessions (+2 rebounds and +4 turnovers).

Wednesday 2/10:
Butler @ Seton Hall (Bubbly)
LaSalle @ Davidson
Bona @ Fordham
St Joes @ GW (Kind of a big game, ehh?)
#20 Providence @ Marquette
LSU @ South Carolina
#15 aTm @ Bama (aTm has lost 2 straight, why not go for 3?)
Richmond @ SLU
#21 Baylor @ Kansas St
Michigan @ Minnesota (Michigan can't afford to loss at son of rick)
#14 Iowa St @ Texas Tech (Texas Tech really needs a win over a decent team)
Missouri @ Vandy
Washington @ Utah
San Diego St @ Fresno St (SDS is the MWC only hope for an at large spot, an upset here would help clear up the bubble and cement the MWC as a 1 bid league)
Big Bubble night tonight, multiple games with multiple teams right around the bubble. Butler @ Seton Hall, STJU @ GW, LSU @ South Carolina and Washington @ Utah. Then balance that out w/ bubbly Michigan and SD St having to go on the road and Texas Tech trying to give bubble watchers a reason to keep them around with a big home tilt. Its a night that has 0 head to head meetings b/w top 25 teams, but its a night that will big huge in the shapping of the back end of the field in a month.

BTW I hate that type of basketball. The last ten minutes on offense were nothing but Hield and Taylor trying to score. Love our True Team approach.

I tried making that point on another thread and people tried to shout me down that it was beautiful. I don't like that style at all either; it's boring. "Throw some ground balls, it's more democratic."
But if he was on my team you better believe he'd be taking a crap-ton of shots every game, so I can't really blame them either.

Good question. I say GW. A GW win puts them both at 8-3 in conference, 2 games out of first.

In addition, since we have already defeated GW we own the tiebreaker, which actually gives us a three game lead.

GW - already have a win against them. Want to win an A10 regular season title outright. Provides more separation now and the opportunity to turn it into a two team race with VCU

Ed Cooley= Brian Gregory
Tie game at Marquette 11 seconds left. MU has been playing 2-3 zone. Cooley draws up a play for Dunn to try to drive with no screens against 2 defenders which became 3. Dunn throws it out of bounds. Headed to OT

Marquette beats Providence 96-91 in 2 OTs.
Marquette gave away a 5 point lead in the last minute of the 1st OT and then tried to do it again in the 2nd OT. Complete stupidity almost let Cooley win.
Providence is now 5-6 in conference and headed toward the bubble. In the ultimate irony I hope they have to come to UD Arena to play in the First Four. I'll show up just to cheer for whoever they have to play.

Just got back from Foggy Bottom. GW got humiliated by the Hawks tonight. We better be hitting on all cylinders when we play St. Joe's. They are well-rounded, everyone shoots the three, tough on D and ran about 7 or 8 successful back-doors. The only positive for Lonergan tonight were his ashes.

The two teams shot a combined 68 free throws on 52 fouls. Three players fouled out and four more finished with four fouls.
Ben Bentil went off for 42 points and 12 rebounds, Ellenson had 26 & 16 for Marquette.

Marquette did their level best to give this game away throughout the two OTs but the Friars had no interest in taking it.
