2nd Spring Tournament
Team travels to Louisville for 3 matches on Sat April 7th. This is one of the top-tier spring tournaments and we have a great set up for this weekend.
We play Michigan St - always great to match up against Big 10 teams. And TH has played MSU a lot over the years and they have a long time head coach and associate head coach so I’m sure that is to a small degree a game within a game.
We then play Murray State. I don’t know anything about them, but it’s spring and this will be a match everyone can get some playing time and show their improvements and push for playing time down the road.
We end the day against Kentucky - who just showed up on our 2018 schedule. It will be great to see how we match up.
I should note two things. First, match ups have been known to change a lot during spring, so this could change. Second, if bad weather heads in, they usually shorten matches to two sets and have been known to not play the last match so teams can get on the road home.
Right now this is the schedule and they plan to play the best of 3 matches.

I haven’t seen any score for any teams playing at this event. Hopefully UD will post a short write up like they did after the Michigan Scrimmage.

Well I heard a little. These were suppose to be best of 3 matches, but I’ve heard they shortened it to simply 2 sets with 3 matches for each team. I have no scores.
First, tOSU, who returns one senior next year and I think we have a good chance to beat next year, they “ split” with both Bowling Green and Tennessee. TN has a new coach.
X split with Indiana. X should be better this year if they are healthy. Last year injuries impacted their season.
Finally, I heard Dayton split with Michigan State. That’s a great result.

Set results are up on the website. We did split with MSU. We beat Murray State 2-0 and we lost to KY 0-2. I would say those results are a little better than expected, because we split with MSU. This was a solid weekend. KY was one of the top 4 seeds last year and they return 3 seniors and 3 juniors with a very good coach.
We don’t have any scores, but a good spring outing. We need to be challenged again next weekend. The tougher the competition the better so the team knows what they have to work on over the summer.

Both UK and MSU made it to the elite 8 this past year. Murray State went 22-9 and lost in their conference title match. So all 3 of these teams are solid competitors. One concern from the UD news release - no mention of Peterson. Hope her health is ok.

I felt our blocking could have been better last year. Was glad to see Serra put up some big numbers against MSU. MSU playing in the Big10 has to have some strong hitters, so winning the block in that match looks very promising. You’ve got to be able to stop hitters to make it to the Sweet 16.

Not really any official news on Jamie, but it’s officially the off-season so we take whatever we can get.
Out on Udvb Twitter is a video from April 14th that shows Jamie in full practice gear including passing arm bands. It’s a team meeting, not a court/practice video, but Jamie would not have those arm bands on if she wasn’t participating in full practice. It appears she is healthy.
