BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- Spring time is in the air, can you hear the birds tweeting? Oh wait…those aren’t birds…that sound is the current UD basketball players taking advantage of their newly reactivated Twitter accounts (warning—the player tweets might contain the occasional F-bomb):

Elsewhere on the intrawebs:

-- Speaking of social media, one of the beauty parts of LinkedIn (the Facebook for business folks) is that I get a notice every time someone views my listing. So when some sleazeball barrister from a cheeseball outfit called GoEmpire Group or some twerp from Information Technology Solutions or a toolbox CPA from Grant Thornton visits my LinkedIn profile, I am fully aware of it.

-- LaDontae Henton’s HS coach Rod Watts’ smartass quote to Doug Harris in the DDN was a topic of conversation at Great Lakes Hoops:

http://greatlakeshoops.com/2011/03/2...-dayton-paper/

-- Meanwhile Percy Gibson’s coach George Ward was decidedly less controversial in stating that PG to UD is still OK, at least for the time being:

http://www.detnews.com/article/20110...bound--for-now

-- Are Henton and Gibson really still coming to UD? I’ll ask them that question at the All-Michigan Classic Game for which both players have been nominated to play on April 15th in Fashionable Ferndale.

-- Lost in all of the BG-to-GT hubbub was the fact that Gregory’s primary competition to replace Tom Izzo should TI ever leave MSU, Sparty Associate Head Coach Mark Montgomery, quietly took the job at Northern Illinois:

Montgomery’s first hire at NIU? Former Saginaw HS coach Lou Dawkins:

His second hire? Former UD Assistant Coach Jon Borovich who tells Doug Harris that he will “always have a little Flyer in me”:

-- Former meteorologist (who knew?) Ken Pomeroy is the “go-to guy of college hoops” according to The New York Times:

-- Speaking of Kenny, here’s a kinda self-serving piece on why he feels that RPI is a lousy metric to select NCAA participants from Slate magazine:

http://www.slate.com/id/2288042/pagenum/all/

-- Consumer activist Ralph Nader wants to eliminate scholarships for college student-athletes:

http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publ...cle_7382.shtml

Stick to Corvairs why don’t you, Ralphie?

-- Ever wonder what happened to the popular sports video streaming website channelsurfing.net? The Department of Homeland Security happened, that’s what:

-- Think that it’s easy playing hoops overseas for a living? Think again:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...ops/index.html

-- Tremendous back-story on the greatest whodunnit movie ever made, "All the President’s Men" from Vanity Fair:

-- When Ryan Westmoreland steps to the plate at Fenway Park in a few years it will complete the greatest comeback in sports history, bar none:

http://www.boston.com/sports/basebal...urgery/?page=9

-- “Sweet Tweet of the Week” comes from ESPN.com’s Jay Bilas:

Bill Raftery, interrupting a story he was telling me: "Geez, don't go tweeting this, will ya."

Creeped Out

Swamp no offense but, you listing every bball players twitter account and even describing if its protected is a little weird to be blunt flat out stalkerish. If your a UD student following them thats different, but a man of your age its creepy. Lets pump the breaks with Stalking these players and let them be normal college kids for a few weeks.

Creepy is in the eye of the beholder. These are links to their public Twitter accounts. They can always do what PW did and make them private. Plus I am not "following" them--you have to have a Twitter account to do that and I don't.

Last week I got hammered for not caring about the social networking sites. Welcome to the world of cant-win.

As an attorney, I find your comment about people with esquire after their name to be extremely distasteful and uninformed. Do you think the "douchiest" doctors are those who signing their name with an M.D.? Accountants that sign C.P.A.? It's hard work to graduate from law school and to pass the bar exam and lawyers are proud of that accomplishment. I have yet to see a lawyer's business card that DIDN'T say esquire on it.

I've never meet a lawyer that referenced themselves esquire. However, a business card is one thing, making someone refer to you in that way is douchery. And yes, any doctors that insist you call them doctor, is douchery as well. You sign a professional leagal or medical document, esquire or MD, that's fine. You sign a thank you note, swampy, esquire, that's douchery. Same thing goes for CPAs, engineers, nurses, police officers, or any other professional designation. its all about context, there's a time and place for it, and there's a time and place where no body cares and its only being used in hopes of "impressing" someone.

Thanks Swamp for making my point about the creepy part. You knowing that Paul Williams has a private twitter account is kinda strange. Can you find their Facebook pages while your stalking the players?

Maybe I missed something, but can't you just go to twitter or facebook and look? Isn't that how this social media stuff works?

I didn't make your point, I refuted it. Try putting that UD education to work sometime. You sound like someone who has issues.

And yes, UD69 anybody can access their Twitter accounts. It took me maybe 10 minutes to compile that list.

Just because you easily obtained this information on the internet in 10 minutes or less doesn't mean you should put this information out there and make it easier for people. I think you've used very poor judgement. Heck, I found your address, date of birth, phone number, wife and children's name, etc. in less than one minute. For a couple bucks I can get a ton more information about you or anybody else. Would I ever share this information or put it out on the web? Absolutely not. Please reconsider and take this article off the web. Thank you.

Pretty much EVERY player sent out a "Tweet" five minutes after BG held his GT presser saying "follow me on Twitter". Nobody shouts on the mountaintop unless they want to be heard. The personal info analogy was not analogous at all.

Like I said earlier however, last week I said not to take these kids social media accounts to heart and was almost laughed out of the room for being so last century to how news is broken.

You can't win either way.

Anyone with a Twitter account is looking to be heard. Personally if it were me as an athletic director, I ban all social media. But, I'm old school.

Chris,

I guess you are making your decision as Chief of Staff at UDPride. Interesting that you would ban all social media if your were AD. I agree with you. I suppose I'm old school too. I wonder how Wabler feels about it. He also seems old school. I wonder if he appreciates Swampy's article and listing of all the Twitter accounts. I still don't.

I don't see the big deal about Swampy listing players' twitter accounts. The reason people join twitter or facebook is for others to see their information. They are aware that what they post is public; therefore, they don't give information they don't want to share with the world. And, as someone mentioned, if twitter account members don't want everyone seeing their info, they have the option of making their account private.
