Well I am in my computer room and just looking at the posts and one would thik we were getting blown out. Only when I go to the family room and take a look do I see its not that at all.
As bad as CW is playing and some calls not going Daytons way they are still in the game.

I swear, if BG takes Benson out of this game and puts in Searcy......
I'll make another post at how bad BG is of a coach.

Down 5, with 355 left and the ball. Please run the play you have practiced all year BG for this situation, we need to cut it to 3 right now. Let's run the killer play.

What a terrible call on CW. Charge on X or no call. I don't see how that is a blocking foul. Rewound it 2x and watched it.

I am not going to blame BG or the players for this loss. Honestly, every time we came back, we had a critical call go againist us and many were questionable at best. You cannot play 8 againist 5. Again, we had some coaching mistakes and some bad plays, but it was really amazing the timing of the terrible calls to kill our momentum at every opportunity.

Better players and a better coach wouldn't even have been in a position to allow the referees to decide the game.

fair enough we shouldn't have been in this position. I have been the biggest BG critic, but he did a good job in the 2H. We really got hosed multiple times here.

1st half killed us - bad shots, turnovers. too much poor play in the 1st half to pull this one out. I dont know how with a week off to prepare against your biggest rival you can come out and play that poorly.

Tu was clutch when they needed him. We don't have that clutch player. Please people don't b*itch about the refs. That just sounds sad. There was tons of body on that awesome block by CW and no call. They have have better players and coaches. That's why they won. N
ot the refs.

No one would expect you of all people to see anything positive BG does.
UD had their chance at the end but....we just have an unconscious player like crawford/holloway. They are unbelievable. Without those two X would be avg at best. Don't think Mack is all that great a coach but he is willing to take risks and with players like crawford and holloway it more often than not works out for them.

I am not a BG fan, but you have to admit we played a very solid 2H. We came from -13 to as most of you are saying a better team and a better coached team. BG and the players must have done something right in the 2H.
Again, look at my post history, I have been critical about BG for years and years, but 2H was nothing to be ashamed of, he made good 2H adjustments or we executed better.

AVid, get an effin clue!!!!
Get a clue!
You know why X has those players??? They develop those players types of players! Both were 4 star recruits, just like THREE of our players!!!! And when they don't have 4 star recruits, they develop guys like Andy ****in Taylor into a semi college player!!!
that's most of coaching...get a clue and take off the sweater vest.

How can anyone blame anything on the refs??? The refs were pretty good today, one of the best reffed games I've seen at UD Arena all year.
If Searcy is 6'10", why wouldn't he try to at least block Holloway's shot on that three point play???
I didn't understand the Gregory timeout with 2 minutes to go with the ball down 2. Came out of the timeout with a forced Chris Wright wild drive. Great play call coach.

i have zero confidence they will either, just saying any talk of at large is over. this team hasn't strung together four good games in a row since the conference started so the likelihood of it happening now is zilch.
we just dont have that one guy, like holloway or our own brian roberts that can put us on his back and carry us for four games

that is one glaring fact in gregory's tenure. guys just dont develop in their four years like they do at other schools. i am not saying they dont develop at all, but the development isnt what it should be.

The game to game stuff...
is pretty easy for anyone to see. I just don't know how so many on here can be blind to the long term lack of results. UD is mediocre in men's basketball...and there is no reason for them to be.
Laphonso Ellis...the color guy spotted right away that on drives Chris Wright picks the ball up too soon. He has done that since he was a freshman on drives to the basket. I don't care what anyone says...a good coach would correct this and the other flaws individual players have.
Its two things...lack of player development and poor on floor coaching and prep. If the U settles for this...its because too many fans accept mediocrity!

Let me say we did not lose because of the refs. We got too far behind and could not finish the game. With that said, I think other teams coach how to draw foul calls better than UD. Benson barely touched Holloway and Tu snapped his head back like he got punched in the mouth. The blocking call in Chris Wright was HORRIBLE. Benson gets run over on one end with no call and then we get called for a charge for the same move 20 seconds later.
So - not blaming the refs on this game, but just curious how we seem on the short end SO many times. Maybe we need an acting class for the Flyers.

Not sure I really want the answer to this question, but who seems to be a better game coach, BG or Chris (smack in the face) Mack?

FORTFLYERFAN: are you serious????
It's not even close. One of them in two years will win TWO A10 reg season titles and go to TWO NCAAs.
The other in EIGHT years has won NOT ONE A10 title and gone to ONE NCAA....but he did win the NIT.

I will bet anyone $1,000 that we lose in the quarterfinals of the A10 tournament.

DON'T KNOW IF that is Gregory or Staten , to be honest. Either way it reflects poorly on Gregory. taking loads of time to launch a three or setup a good look. kind of silly if you ask me.
Couple of observations about defense , while I have STaten's name on the screen here. He's way too off of Holloway , both driving and when Holloway is scoping his three from afar. Perhaps a lot to ask of freshman Juwan to play one of top scorers in the country. Don't think we have anyone else , on other hand, to stay with Holloway's quickness.
Next year, Staten needs to pickup his defensive prowess and toughness if we are EVER to be winners. BG could also use more zone or development of alternative strategies, but i know i'm stepping into creative thinking here

Its two things...lack of player development and poor on floor coaching and prep. If the U settles for this...its because too many fans accept mediocrity!

if they can see it, we can see it, then isn't UD taping these games and color commentary to deal with it.... geesh

22-11 to finish the regular season. NIT 3-seed again. Final tally 23-12.

Believe me I have an effin clue. Difference between you and me is I see both the good and the bad. You only see the bad cause that is all you are looking for. You don't like BG we get that have got it long long ago.
Fortunately UD lost otherwise you would have looked pretty bad. As it is UD made a nice come back. If CW would have had an average game we might have gotten a W. I know he wanted it bad and just sometimes plays too hard and overplays. Hopefully we'll another shot at them.

Not really serious & I assumed it was obvious. I just watched our guys work to tie then completely fall apart in the final minute. It happens too often. I honestly think we have talent on this team that is on par with X and the other league leaders.

Biggest play of the year. Down two with 1:26 left. Your season is on the line. You've come back from a double digit halftime deficit with Williams and Staten attacking the rim. Xavier did their part by taking dumb three after three and committing stupid fouls to let you back in the game.
Chris Wright at this point is 3-12 from the floor and has committed 6 turnovers and has not gotten one single productive play off the dribble down the right side of the lane. Or barely at all. He has been effective swishing a few 15 footers. Of course he charges down the right side of the lane to no avail. That is a microcosm of another thoroughly dissapointing A10 season. And I'm not putting it all on Chris either. For him, the coaching staff and his teammates not to recognize or demand a better option says everything about this team we as fans need to know.

UD had their chance at the end but....we just have an unconscious player like crawford/holloway. They are unbelievable. Without those two X would be avg at best. Don't think Mack is all that great a coach but he is willing to take risks and with players like crawford and holloway it more often than not works out for them.
|
I'd be willing to bet that even without Holloway, X would be able to reinvent themselves and compete for the A10 title. They always do, no matter who the lose. Considering the lost Redford and Martin before the year, Canty for a month during the year, and their bench now consists of a D2 transfer and a guy that averaged 3 ppg in high school and they are still 13-1 in A10, I think they would figure it out.

Whacker, I think you hit it right on the head with the questionable play selection. With the game (and, arguably, the season) on the line, the play call was "what we've always done", instead of what was working for us on this day. That's reflective of a lack of recognition that "flow of the game" means something, which also is reflected in the substitution patterns that I've been b****ing about for years now.
And as far as who you blame is concerned:
-CW was in a no-win situation. He either accepts the responsibility knowing he's not having a good game, or he tells the coaches that someone else should do it and comes-off looking like he's not "up to the task" in the biggest game of the year.
-CW's teammates can't say "Why are we going with that play?" because the hidden meanings there are "We don't have confidence in our senior leader" and "What the h*** are you coaches thinking?"
No, that play selection is all on the coaching staff (BG and the assistants) for not recognizing that CJ was having a great game, PW had started to make some clutch shots, and there were simply better options AT THAT MOMENT than the guy who was 3 for 12 with 6 TOs. Plain and simple.
Oh, well, hopefully we won't p***-away this year's Senior Night against SLU like we did last year's Senior Night against SLU. In the immortal words of Captain Tenneal from Spike-TV's MXC: "Let's get it on!"

We were somewhat on a run, I question calling a timeout at that point. I told the people I was watching the game with I didn't like it.
