DD played it ok. Backed off very slightly at the end - but you don’t want to foul a player 30 feet from the basket as the shot clock expires

Doesn't the clock automatically stop after the "make" with less than 2:00 to go at the end of the 2nd Half and every period thereafter?

Ball went into backcourt with 4 on shot clock. Pipkin chases it down, gathers ball and takes three dribbles into the front court, and still get shot off before zero? I suppose it is possible, but I have my doubts.

No moral victory. Just a learning experience. What did we learn?
-We have no bench (kinda figured that)
-Josh and Trey are beasts (um, we knew that)
-Darrell doesn't step-up in the key moments (think we knew that)
-Crutcher is a "rock" in the making (we suspected that)
Anybody else?

Would like to see Jablo's tweet in slo-mo. Still have my doubts as to whether that shot left his hand in time. Not saying it didn't. But not saying it did, either.

Moral victory? Just sinking further and further into the reality of how bad we are. I really only see 2 really solid players on the entire team.

This was not only a loss, but a moral loss. Losing to UMass on any planet is bad.
We had three players today. DD is lost in space and Jordan is just lost.

Completely agree. Other than Crutcher developing and the kid from Holy Name coming in, what is there to be excited about with this group? Landers is a grinder, but his game is always gonna have serious limitations. And though Cohill is nice, he is not the kind of guy who can carry a program.

That's a ridiculous comment. The guy was a total waste most of the last two years. He just is who he is especially on the road. What does that tell you about this entire UD team when Anthony Grants top 1-2 players offensively is really this guy.

A question....
Priders are highly critical of the 2018 version of the Flyers...like today, for example. A very good player or two, a few OK, at least one with great promise and a few not at all what we need.....and a very weak bench. In short...not enough really good, experienced players to continue our run.
Here's the question (from afar): UD is coming off the four best years in decades. To my mind, recruiting the caliber of players we need should have been the easiest in a very long time based on our run of success.
Where are they? What was Miller doing re recruiting the last few years? A coaching change hurts the incoming class....I understand that. But where are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year players that AM recruited during our great run over recent years? There are two maybe. But that's not enough.
AG is an experienced coach....who is playing the hand he was dealt. Why is that hand so weak? A 500 season to reload is not a disaster. But do we see younger players improving? Is the incoming class promising?
I'm just looking for some insight from those that know.

I personally think the answer is that players perform to their best under the right coach. AM and AG and just about every coach in the country recruit differently to match their coaching style. AM probably didn't have the ability to get the higher potential players(while coaching for a mid-major) but had a coaching style that coaches the next level up as a team. He went out and got those players to fit his strengths as a coach. AG has the ability recruit the higher rated, higher potential players and doesn't depend on coaching them up.
So it's no coincidence that with 5 new players on this year's roster, the only one who's been extremely impressive consistently is the only one that AG recruited, which does give me a lot of hope for Toppin.
So, we look at two coaches with two very different strengths but the one is coaching the other's players. Personally, I think when it comes to pure coaching, AM is much better. When it comes to acquiring quality recruits, AG is much better. In a few years we're going to find out which one works the best.
Also, just for comparison, in 6 years, only one of AM's freshman recruits hit the ground running and didn't seem to need as much coaching up and that was Pierre. Already AG is one for one with Crutcher.

John Crosby was a miss but I don't blame Archie. Maryland offered him and North Carolina brought him on campus for a visit. Sam Miller I wonder if it was on him for not delivering while he was here.
Trey Landers has done well for his first year.
McKinley Wright and Naz Carter were big losses for this last recruiting class.
I think people are way too hard on Archie's last couple of classes. The mistake was not taking a transfer before last season so we had an experienced guard in the mold of a Cooke, Sanford or Siebert to plug in this year.
