Davidson Game Thread
Live and learn boys that's all you gotta do... Shake off these last 2 losses... We have a really good team coming in who has won 6 of 7. McKillop's teams will always be ready.... I won't be surprised if there are a combined like 60 3's in this game lol
Game is on Tuesday Night at 7 PM on the CBS Sports Network.
Starting Lineup (Started every single together for the Wildcats)
G 3 Jon Axel Gudmundsson 64 190 SO Grindavik, Iceland
G 31 Kellan Grady 65 195 FR Boston, MA
G 20 KiShawn Pritchett 66 225 SO Mooresville, NC
F 23 Peyton Aldridge 68 225 SR Leavittsburg, OH
F 15 Oskar Michelsen 69 220 SR Helsinki, Finland
We all know how good Aldridge is (20.1 PPG 7.0 RPG)... Gudmundsson has been really good too (15.0 PPG 6.2 RPG 4.9 APG). Grady playing like possibly the A10 Rookie of the Year (15.8 PPG 40.2% from 3)
Get the job done boys, get back on track.
Take care of the ball and defend the 3 point line as best as you can.
Go UD!

Set shooters. Make them put it on the floor. Each man guard a man. And, please put a body on the nearest guy. Avoid watching the shot. First priority...your rear into their body-hard. Then go for the ball.

The key is containing Aldridge. Can't let him get 20+. Not sure we can do that but I'd make somebody else eat us.

Who will guard Aldridge? Cunningham has to take the big kid, so that leaves Landers or DD on Aldridge. Grant could start Kostas, and put Cunningham on Aldridge. May be another night of our zone against a great passing and outside shooting team. This is a bad matchup for UD.

He's big 6'8 225. Averages 20+ and 7 boards. Automatic at the line. He's a great passer so double teaming won't likely help much. His 3 pt shooting is off this year for some reason. Might be best if we take our chances there. Would be helpful if X chose to play for a change. At least size and mobility wise he matches up.

Might also be helpful for X to wrest his head from his hither region before walking onto the court.
To me his body language and choices on the floor speak loud and clear of kid whose head is buried pretty dang deep.

X was not a good defensive player the last two years. Combine that with his lack of effort this year and you have not much.

Had to come to Dayton for an appointment today so I'm actually going to the game. I'll at least stay until Red Panda finishes her routine.
I'm afraid this one may get ugly.

I am at the arena and am sitting in the lower arena and can confirm what people said at the beginning of the year about the new seats. I have long legs and need knee and shin pads for these things. Backs and cup holders are killing my knees and legs. Guess I'm sitting sideways

Kostas and Landers with 2 fouls. That hurts against their size.
So far only one turnover and staying with them on the boards.

C'mon Crutcher. Two bad threes on two possesions. That airball was at the start of the shot clock.
Williams with his best game so far. Rebounding with 3, and very good defense.
When he moves forward on his three point shots, they are online.

First half ends with the good guys playing a decent defensive game and up 31 - 26 despite blowing the last two possessions.

If Davidson keeps this up, we have a chance to hold on to our lead. If not, we're getting beat at home AGAIN.

Definitely a more concentrated effort to get Cunningham the ball on the block although were still prone to 3-5 minute lapses without doing it. I would like to see a little less slip screens on the ball and a few more real screens away from the ball.

Our guards are just disgusting the way they continue to miss Josh on pick and roll. Some don't even look his direction. Whether DD wants to admit it or not, Josh is our stud and star. He could have 30 points right now.

Best defensive effort since... last year. Davidson, who leads the nation in least turnovers has 6 in the first half. We only have 2. Credit our defense. We lead rebounds 17-14, with 5 offensive to their two.
Our 3-13 threes is our achilles.

Coach Grant should have yanked Jalen Crutcher after those two quick threes. He has to learn to penetrate into the lane and then dish down low to a cutter, preferably Cunningham.

Crutcher finally goes into the paint! He had a lane to the bucket previously and decided to make a long cross-court pass to Darrell...why do that when you have a lane to the bucket?

Davidson does not have the athletic guards that you typically find in the A-10...easier to control dribble penetration.

Crutcher went into the paint and tried to hit Cunningham, who got fouled! Crutcher needs to do much more of that.

Our guards gotta box out. A team like this can kill us on offensive rebounds if we let them

When Davidson called that TO, I saw Pierce grinning and running out to meet his teammates on their way back to the huddle. Hopefully, he will start to show that same level of enthusiasm toward his coaches in practice.

Landers giving Aldridge everything he's got on defense, but those 3-4 inches are hard to overcome on a great player like that.

Sometimes Josh is doubled but X is open on the inside, the guards need to look for him also.

The last five shots down have been terrible shot selection. Penetrate that zone or double post it.

11-0 run in which we have not taken one good shot.
Our passing against the zone is slow motion. Catch, stop, look, pass. It has to be catch and pass.

DD sometimes feels it's his responsibility to get the momentum changed by himself due to being a senior and looked at as a leader. The one thing he isn't though is selfish and that's a fact.

Trey is the most guilty when it come to the stop and let the defense catch up part.

It looks to me that the Flyers are gassed on defense. I don't think there has been a substitution this half.

So Aldridge has done that to landers 5 times tonight and no adjustment. Also I retract my earlier statement about us doing well on feeding josh. Completely ignored this second half

I hate that on a tie-up that they leave the shot clock the same. Flyers would've been better off just letting Davidson have the possession and keep the arrow on their side rather than having 1 second to get a shot off and losing the arrow.

You need some penetration to get the ball to him. That should be Crutcher.
