Watching the transfer portal
Tamika time to get some talent in house especially with the potential outgoing transfers - here's a thought...
Maddie Scherr, a 5-foot-11 inch guard who just finished her sophomore season at the University of Oregon, has entered the transfer portal for women's college basketball.
Scherr, a former McDonald's All-American at Ryle High School, made the announcement via Twitter Tuesday morning. This past season she averaged 4.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the Ducks who bowed out in the first round of the NCAA tournament in double overtime to Belmont 73-70.

We are gonna need a bunch because I don't think you want to have half the roster in a frosh class.

Don't know if Whitehead or Davidson will take advantage of the extra year but Davidson did retweet the HC hiring announcement. Whitehead did not although Whitehead is not very active on (that) twitter.

Imarianah Russell, 5-11 W, Reynoldsburg HS (OH) is decommitting from West Virginia.
She is probably destined for Ohio State, though.
Dayton's Maliya Perry's sister Mya was her HS teammate and is an OSU commit.

There are over 1000 women in the portal. How does a coach and staff deal with this and particularly a new coach with little staff?
This is ridiculous.

Today UConn's Paith Gabriel entered the portal.... she wants to play. Go to her house....tell her you want her to play for Dayton....promise she'll start every game. She's 6' 5" and was recruited by UConn...has three years left. What's the risk?
You don't have to research 1000 players when you're in UD's situation. Take some chances. She was good enough for Auriemma to want. That's all you need to know.

So using that logic Dayton shouldn't pursue Piath Gabriel like UACFlyer suggested?

How about Bradshaw as an example she didn’t play much at usc and she’ll go down as one of the most well rounded players at UD.

How about Maylia Perry. Averages about 2/3 of a basket a game. Or Brittany Ward , a compete bust. Or Tiara Phillips… 1.8 ppg.

You know what else Perry, Ward, and Philips all have in common? A10 title rings.
UConn has players averaging 1ppg too. They must suck as well.
Other than 3-4 programs, nobody can recruit 13 starters. You bring in players to fill roles of all kinds -- some bigger or smaller than others.

Yes and so do Anna LeMaster and Amari Davidson. Similarly they had virtually nothing to do with it. So we should recruit people that really aren’t expected to produce?

You should recruit people that win you A10 titles. We did that. Why you keep focusing on the 2-3 that never played vs the 8-10 others that balled out is beyond me.
You have no idea what this new WBB roster will look like in 2-3 years, who will be the contributors, who will be the bench warmers, and who will be the studs. Neither do I. So why dont you stop pretending. You're the same one who spent two years saying Bradshaw committed too many turnovers even though she was setting assist-to-turnover records during your repetitive protests.
I remember the MBB team taking a failure recruit at Ohio State that couldnt get off the bench, averaged like 2ppg, and couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with his jumpshot. It ended up working out. Some do some don't.
You should be ecstatic about the Tamika hire considering we got beat this year by UMass and VCU despite far higher ranked recruits on our team. By your standard, good riddance Shauna for underachieving so we can try somebody new who might actually know what they are doing and clean up all the miserable frustration you've been suffering through over the past 5-6 seasons.

After action report/analysis
I think we/UD/TWJ should understand why a player would choose URI over UD.
The women's BB program at URI doesn't compare with UD's in any way. Yet we lost out. I surely would like to know why.

The RI roster shows 4 players returning who are from France. Tenin makes the 5th French player. In addition, the associate coach, Amadou, is from France. He works with the post players. He was at Dayton for four years with Jabir. He had worked with Jody Cornelie and Saicha Grant-Allen. (I think he recruited both of them)
So if you are very far away from home, most of the girls you played with are graduating, and the entire coaching staff leaves, a place with so many of your compatriots might be very appealing. And Tammy Reiss seems to be a very good coach.
All 4 transfers in to RI were announced today. 3 of the 4 from A10 schools! (UD, VCU and Richmond) It has crossed my mind that overtures might have been made even before entering the portal. (My conspiracy theory of the day).

The "French Connection" doesn't hurt but I think it is as simple as Dayton is trending (way) down while URI is trending up.
Look at the roster - it's a hot mess.

These in-conference transfers happened earlier in the transfer cycle:
MILLIE PRIOR -- from Fordham to Davidson
LAILA FAIR -- from Saint Joseph's to UMass
Also, it should be noted that the fourth URI addition is not a transfer -- Anete Adler played the 2020-21 season in Europe.

Just wonder if Olivia wasn't asked to remain on staff at UD so to say she pulled a Green wouldn't be accurate. Happy Olivia landed somewhere and she recruited in the state of Missouri for the Billikens so familiar turf.

Somehow I doubt that Olivia was asked to stay on staff. I'm glad she a landed a spot on a new, and what looks to be very talented, coaching staff. The experience under another head coach should be good for her career.
(I think Jaburr91's post was more a dig at Green.)

Archdeacon has an article in today's DDN about Koslova. In the excerpt below, he mentions another transfer Tamika is trying to land.
"Kozlova is one of five new players — four transfers and an incoming freshman — Williams-Jeter has added to the team. That leaves one spot to fill, and Williams-Jeter is hoping to sign a transfer from an ACC power who was one of the top recruits in the nation a year ago."
Did some sleuthing on the portal list. One possibility is Morasha Wiggins, 6' guard, freshman from North Carolina. She is from Kalamazoo, MI. and same high school as Devin Oliver. Ranked #18 on ESPNW Class of 2021. National Honor Society.

Here’s the article:
https://www.daytondailynews.com/spor...LCEB5S5KYQYRQ/
Here are uncommitted ACC freshman transfers I saw at WBB blog. My guess is Wiggins, also followed on Twitter by coach Tamika. All would be great additions.
UNC: Morasha Wiggins, 6’0 wing, Kalamazoo, MI
https://twitter.com/morashawiggins?s...DVtTcKd9ufrJBA
Syracuse: Julianna Walker, 5,6 PG, Tacoma, WA
Va Tech: Brianna Turnage, 6’1 wing, Atlanta GA (wasn’t on 21-22 roster)
Wiggins is 5-star. Maybe not as heralded as McDonalds All American Ally Malott was, but instant credibility for Coach Meek and her program.

Just following the rebuild of the Flyers in passing, don't really know the skill levels of the incoming troops, but it seems to an outside observer that while losing Cook hurt, we may be as good or better off than before Greene left(except Cook). Yes or no?

Magassa was a load in the middle, and Whalen and Giacone had tons of experience (6 years each, Whalen transferred in from Vandy).
I’m prepared to be patient. Any postseason would be a stretch this year. Chemistry, conditioning, rotation, how fast players learn new system, etc. Esp if we get Wiggins, TWJ is at least proving she and staff can recruit. They’re working hard. Hope to see results in year two or three.
Like Coach Grant, with Dayton roots, TWJ seems loyal, which is a plus.

If we're anywhere close to .500 this year TJW will earn herself a raise. She wasn't left much and walked into a full rebuild from the ground floor. I wont even be counting Ws this year and will focus more on style, effort, coachability, and improvement.
One area Id like to see us take a step forward compared to Shauna's teams is lowering TOs and generating more steals. We were always real good defensively but I want to see us gain a few more possessions each game.

I don’t really post on womens basketball but I like the hire of this coach. And I like her going after high recruits. We are not going to land many. We are looking for one a year to start. Two is a grand slam. But I remember Archie saying that basically implied elite high ranked recruits wouldn’t look at Dayton. I think AG has changed that philosophy and culture at UD and in more programs than just mens basketball. Great to see the new H?c for the women’s program is of the same mindset. It will pay off.

Dang - wish her well. Hard to predict what young people will do and why, specially in NIL era.
