Fun game to watch. Every time a 3 ball went up the entire Arena assumed it was going in.

URI...they have size and one hell of a shooter when left open. I can't believe they are as bad as what they are.

RI is very inexperienced. Has one senior who did not play, 2 JRs who played 26 and 18 minutes.The rest Fr or Soph. They have not hit 60 points this year. When they got to 58, I was silently cheering for them to get another basket.
The UD record for made 3's was also broken, 19 last night.

Yeah, they seem to have all the pieces, just can't get them all moving in the same direction.

Never have seen the kind of 3 point shooting I saw last night. Scaife and Cannatelli were unbelievable. Lots of good basketball decisions and only 8 turnovers. Admittedly, URI is pretty weak. Still, even in an empty gym, hard to shoot 19-33 from trey. Also, we went 21-25 from the line.

Also worth noting - passes were on target, right at the numbers. The shooters had to do nothing but load and shoot. Makes getting off the shot quickly and accurately so much easier. In the first half we had 18 assists on 22 buckets. The good pass to a shooter is a facet of basketball that is not as well appreciated as it could be.

With only 7 players available, it was also quite obvious that Shauna had preached "no fouls" to everyone. For the most part, we played defense with our feet and avoided stupid fouls. The short bench actually worked to our advantage as substitutions were not much of an option and the hot shooters stayed on the floor.

Heck, it is even hard to run a layup line with only 7 players.

So comforting to know two more years of Scaife - a special player who can take over a game - drives to the hoop with authority and has games where she's also dead on from long range. As for Lauren, I guess her critics have hibernated, she is handling the point guard position so well when called upon, playing loads of minutes, has decreased her turnovers and increased her passing acumen.

I will speak for only myself, but just like my judgement of Lauren as a deficient PG was not based on one game, I will not judge her as great based on last night, against maybe the weakest defense we have seen in years. My favorite player Jayla looked like a third team all-american, but we know she is not quite there on a consistent basis.

We have only seen her at point guard about 20% or less of her playing time, based on actual minutes. She seems to have turned the corner, but she and Phillips have a ways to go before they can be next year's point guard of a NCAA Tourney team. I hope they are both kids that improve over time, some do and some not so much.

Lauren has certainly shown growth in her three point shooting and shot selection. Jayla needs some growth on her shot selection.

Lauren is a off ball guard but she has improved a lot as the PG. I think she will be off the ball next year as well. She is a tremendous shooter.

Absolutely the criticism of Lauren was well justified back then and confirmed by the fact Shauna Greene herself when she reduced Laurens play time to 4 min. The criticism was warranted then just as the accolades are warranted now. She has improved but still not a true point guard. She has had her pocket picked several times by opponents who just stripped the ball away from her. She is best as a SG and serviceable as a pg, but as noted neither she nor Phillips are the answer for running the point for next year if we want to go to the NCAA again.

Most players are great at what their main role is and that is true for Lauren and Jayla. Last night RI did not full court press or put that much pressure on our guards or 3 point shooters. Jayla can create her own shot, Lauren needs to be open and set to hit her shots. Still all in all hitting 10 of 13 is remarkable even in open gym practices. RI has some talent but they did not play good defense at all and looked not very well tooled/coached.

Hopefully the shooting continues both inside, at the parimeter and at the foul line. Tougher games ahead starting Sunday at St. Joe.
