Which run was your favorite?
While perusing my saved Flyer games last season, the team had two remarkable performances against quality opponents, Rhode Island and VCU, both at home.
Against the URI we opened the game with a 17-0 run. Against VCU while tied at 41 all, we ran off 22 points in a row to ice the game.
Do you recall another run that fit that impact level?

I have watched that 17-0 run at the beginning of the RI game at least 5 times. That was fun after the big buildup.

Can I say neither? That Obi run to close out the GW game is what I will remember the longest.

The run at the end of regulation against St. Louis. It just sucked the life out of that arena.

That is something that I will remember as unique about this team. They put together runs unlike any other team i saw.
I sat in disbelief as I watched those runs against VCU, Rhode Island and St. Louis. The St. Louis run was sneaky fast because if the number of 3s.

Spurtability. Nearly every national champion shares this trait. They can get stuck for a few possessions and then in the blink of an eye score 15 straight pts and flip a 4pt deficit to an 11pt lead and change the entire complexion of the game in three and half minutes.

I thought the key to the runs was our instant conversion to sticky defense after each make.
Nobody relaxed on D.

And just as important, our efficient offense - near #1 in the country. We rarely had droughts of more than a possession or 2. We shared the ball as well as any Flyer team ever has.

Chris Mooney, coach of Richmond, gave a great summary of Dayton's victory over the Spiders. He was effusive in his praise of the Flyers. But the strongest point he made was that most teams have offensive spurts, but rarely does he see teams that are almost void of offensive droughts like Dayton.

I immediately thought of the game at Richmond when seeing this topic. Just given the circumstances (Flyers rising in the polls, URI having a very good season, the blackout on the road, "overrated" chant) I thought the run mid-game was impressive. Yes we let them up for air, still...that's when I knew this team had that rare on/off switch when needed.

Generally speaking, it seems like most games we had a run of about 20 points where the other team emerged demoralized and thunderstruck.
I absolutely loved this season.

Of course, the best run of all... Grambling thru GW... 20 wins in a row... and counting!
This team deserves to be honored somewhere in the Arena!

This team’s defense was underrated this year.
The dunks made highlights, but the defense was much improved from the year before.

The team was amazing the way they could explode on anyone. They were like the GS Warriors at their best. Runnin' Rebel is right let's build them a statue, go against the current mood build statues don't destroy them.

That is not how I read it at all. I read it as..yes build a statue of the team last year (winners) instead of the current statues (losers) being torn down all over the country. Whole separate discussion for the off-topic page on whether or not anyone agrees the current statues represent losers or not.

I hope this year's team can learn by last year's example and carry the offensive consistency forward. It will be a challenge without Obi. He was a huge reason for this success. When we needed to score we went to Obi, and his great shooting percentage, or the defense would collapse and he passed to and open look. Besides Jalen, we need a couple of go to guys to step forward, especially close to the basket.

Crutcher may find that Chase is his best asset for dunks. Ibi would be a close second. Nothing could replace Obi and his boat load of dunks, but those 3 can provide a lot of thrills and would be right in the mix to provide some lengthy offensive runs.
