A-10 play begins for the Flyers at 7 pm tonight. We should have no problem beating GW tonight and G Mason tomorrow. It’s suppose to be streamed, so I’ll be watching our block...specifically if the MBs are closing the block and not leaving space between them and the OHs. Also if we are getting extension over the net and turning hands inside so the block doesn’t send the ball out of bounds.

I would love to score passing, I just don’t think I’m qualified since I’ve never done it. So I’ll just be observing how much our setter has to move to take the pass/second touch.

If we do those two things well we will sweep even if we have too many service errors or too many bad sets/placement/timing with the hitters. We have enough talent to over come those things if we block and pass well against both these teams this weekend.

Lia Hawken gets the start at right side. The announcers said JPete was not in the starting line up. That really wasn’t true if you know how the rotation works in volleyball. No live stats yet. It has a 10 am start...so there may not be any.

25-19 UD goes up 1-0. We had 2 overpasses that gave them their last 2 points, so it wasn’t that close. I think we had only 2 free balls. Otherwise our passing was pretty good. Hard to watch block spacing when the camera is on the center line.

Sandt was called for 2 doubles earlier and Miller just got her 2nd...you get that with young setters. Fight thru it. Flyers up 21-15.

22-25 GW. That sets on Horsmon. Too many subs playing too long. No JPete. No Yates. GW is excited, but I won’t get too amped. The players got TH’s back. I expect them to come out on fire and make it quick.

I posted we were traveling partners with SLU because we always have been. But I see it’s Duquesne now with LaSalle dropping vball.

Didnt watch but sounds like its hard to take much from this one. TH was tinkering with fresh bodies and rotations to get others some much-needed experience. I think everybody knew we'd win the match, just a question of how much we could get away with without running the primary rotation all night.

Still, sounds like we could have played better and none of that is much of an excuse against a winless opponent. We did serve and block well, probably our most consistent weapons all year. Not hitting .200 though against this team....we shoulda been above .300 in my opinion and maybe .340 even with the freshies but I shall wait for BXTAs expert opinion.

The two stars of this match were Lia Hawkens and Alli Papesh. Hawkens got her first start. She hit .278 from the right side OH. That’s a solid number for that position and she’s just a freshman. She took 18 swings, second most on the team. But the big number was her blocking. 5 blocks, most for the team.

Papesh was in a very limited supporting role. She only had three rotations in the front row, but had 3 kills and 1 block. She hit .1000 - no errors - no just sending the ball over the net. Kill on every swing. I don’t know the extent of her injuries. Shoulder two years ago. Knee cleaned out this past off-season. But, it was sure good to see this former A-10 ROY back in the front row making some noise.

Everything else was getting players into the game for experience. I will say the most important person in that mode was freshman setter Alyssa Miller. She played about a set and a half. Two weeks ago she was in sweats on the sideline. This is really her first playing time. I know she got into a very early match for about 3 rotations, but haven’t seen her since. She played pretty well. Got called for 3 doubles, but as noted above, I think the up-ref likes calling these because both teams had plenty. A lot of matches there are none called. This guy called 9.

Agree this weekend if TH is playing 14 players, I wouldn’t factor too much into details. Just get the two wins and enjoy the road trip.

When UD beat GW we dropped to 49. When more games completed, we dropped to 60.

We always talk about UD getting to a better conference for basketball, but it would help the volleyball. The A10 is awful other than a few teams.
