And the best part about his commentary on that was, he explained why it was a bad call. Not a “homer”. He has reasons for what he says.

Every game someone is trashing Mikesell, I even made a negative comment a few games back. Yet when the dust settles and the stats tabulated, Ryan leads us in +/- nearly every game and by far has the best +/- on the season.

I hear you. But +\- is note only about the player but who that player is on the floor with. My comment is focused on he being an upper classmaen in a road game. We need more of the object of the game from him.

on the season, Ryan +14.22 per 40 minutes. Josh is second at 9.07. Ryan has played 374 minutes, I would say he has been on the floor with every combo possible multiple times, this stat does not lie! He who scores the most, and holds the opponent to the least points, Wins.
Thanks Figgie for the stats

Some really ugly offensive positions the last several times down. Gotta be able to finish teams off, and this is not how it is done.

We’re ALWAYS allowed to criticize officiating. The critic just needs to be prepared for the blowback.

Gotta hand it to the boys. Never gave up. Who got all up in Jordan’s grill at halftime?
Happy side note: I (and at least one other) got the score exactly correct in the Predict the Score thread.

I feel like we just beat the Celtics in Boston. Smith Center is where Flyer teams go to die. Typical Foggy Bottom start in each half to this one.
Thankfully JD came out of his slump.

For the record, David Jablonski's video shows that:
-- Trey didn't touch the net on the goal that was waved off
-- The official who made the call was out by halfcourt
-- The ref under the basket had his whistle up his butt

There were a couple of us this game. Pretty unbelievable we came back from that start. I think we started 11-33 initially. Then finished 61-33...

From a personal perspective, the last time we won in Foggy Bottom:
- Our family still had a dog (died in 2010);
- My daughter had not yet seen Europe (studied abroad from 8/2009-12/2009);
- My daughter was out of the will, as an only child (she decided to go to a school not named UD);
- I still had 7 living aunts (who are all now deceased); and
- My wife still had 2 living parents (who both passed-away in 2017).
Yes, it’s been awhile.

That tends to happen in conference road games during the dead of winter.

Great win.... so bad but then we’ll done!! Just checking with the board.... Do you guys liisten to Bedell and the other guy I think it’s Tisdale after road games on Feedback... are they as bad as I think??? The same repetitive stuff with zero substance . I really like Brooks and Keith and think Nate also gives great insight and also impressed with Rex the other day... but these two are really not the right guys.

Since I just love to
Of the 5 starters tonight, guess who had the best +/-? Yep Mikesell!
However, a shout out to all three freshmen coming off the bench, all of whom were better +/- than Mikesell tonight

As hard as it is to believe, our A10-dominating Offensive/Defensive Net Margin FG% actually improved after tonight's performance. It was at a league-leading 9.1% heading into tonight which was almost double the next best A10 team.
We shot 47.2% tonight and GW shot 37.5%. +9.7%. And that's after GW made their first 10 shots of the game, six of which were three-pointers. Hard to do.

Flyers were down 28-6 at one point, then outscored GW 66-38. Just hope they don't dig a hole like that in future road games.
But if they do, don't give up on them!

Good teams find ways to win when they don't play well. Josh, Obi, and Crutcher were a combined 4-14 and we still came away with a road conference win.
Cohill looked dangerous in spurts tonight. Would love to see him earn some more playing time as March nears.
Even down 22 in the first half I still felt like we had it in us. I really did. When GW opened the 2nd half with a 7-0 run to extend to 17...I kind of gave up hope. It took our guys less than 9 minutes to erase that lead. Unbelievable.

I knew UD had a run but those comebacks exhaust teams and once they shoot their wad it's hard to keep that energy level up.Didn't watch it but after hearing GW started the 2nd half on a 7-0 run then more kudos to the Flyers..
UD had to have in the back of their mind that this same GW team started off the year in their very first game getting ahead of Stoneybrook 22-0 only to lose that game..

Figstats Fact Check Time
DDN states:
3. Shooting star: Davis reached his career high in scoring. He made 9 of 15 field goals and 7 of 11 3-pointers, including 6 of 9 in the second half. He became the sixth player in school history to make seven or more 3-pointers in a game.
|
The DDN uses the media guide for their statistic gathering, so I reviewed the information. Based on the media guide, Jordan Davis is the seventh player to make seven or more 3-pointers in a game. Grevey, Haughn, Parker, Lowery, Darrell Davis, Crutcher, and now Jordan Davis. So, the DDN was unable to count correctly.
But, there is one player missing. Brooks Hall made 7 three pointers in 2001 against Rhode Island. The UD media guide wasn't updated to account for that game.
Therefore, Jordan Davis is the 8th player in UD men's basketball history to make 7 or more three pointers in a single game.

It's the 'trail' official's call...do you understand 'primary' vs 'secondary' coverage??

The ref under the basket has 1 job...watch contact. The center and trail officials watch the shot.
Your amateur observations indicate that you're a 'ball watcher' which is a mortal sin in officiating. But don't take this personally as there are a lot of sinners on this site!

Got this email this morning from an '85 friend who lives in N. Va and attends 1 game/year:
"I went to the game last night. At one point I believe it was 25-4. GW went the first seven minutes without missing a shot. Flyers dug a big hole. If I had been at home watching it on tv, I might have turned it off. Flyers turned up the defense and GW ended the game shooting 38%. They do need to work on foul shots. It will cost them in a close one. Not sure how long Dayton has been in the A-10 but that is literally the second time I have seen them win at GW. Even the years when Dayton has had really good teams they couldn’t win in DC."
