Jayla Pan American Games Team Trials
Way to go Jayla, she will certainly be the heart and soul
of the 2019-20 team.
University of Dayton women's basketball junior Jayla Scaife has been invited by the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee to attend the 2019 Pan American Games Team Trials on May 16-20.
"Getting an invitation is a huge honor and I am grateful and thankful to God for this opportunity," Scaife stated. "I am excited to go and represent Dayton and my hometown.
"To be invited to compete in the USA Basketball Pan American games trials is an amazing opportunity for Jayla," added head coach Shauna Green. "We are very proud of her and know that she will be prepared to give it her best shot in Colorado Springs. I believe being able to compete for a chance to represent your country is one of the highest honors you can receive and I know Jayla is very grateful for this invitation."
Scaife recently was named the Flyers team most valuable player at the annual awards banquet, after leading UD in scoring and rebounding this season. She became the 27th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark, and still has a year to play. The Muncie, Ind. native was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 and to the All-Tournament team this season as well, finishing fourth in the A-10 in scoring.
The trials will take place in Colorado Springs on May 16-20 with training camp and the final 12-person roster starting July 23 through August 5. The Pan American Games themselves will take place on August 5-10 in Lima, Peru.
The last Flyer to be invited to the USA National Team trials was Amber Deane in 2013 as part of the U19 World Championships. In 2014, Saicha Grant-Allen competed for the Canadian Senior Women's Basketball National Team in the William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan as the most recent national team participant.
