I am suggesting that they should have guarded against any 3 more aggressively. I watched the highlight, Baldwin just dribbled down the court and drained the 3, almost no effort to stop him. Bad coaching. OT should have been the worst case scenario, even if you give up a layup, you still do not lose in regulation.
I've seen other teams lose like this also, makes no sense to me to lose like that.
I am also a proponent of fouling on purpose when leading by 3 with only a small number of seconds remaining.

Say what ?!?
We are a much better team than the Flyers were in Maui. I know, we launched a super season there. But we had no idea that Georgia would have 16 losses, and Virginia Tech would have 15 losses. Tack on Colorado's 10 losses and it shows at that place and time we actually had to kiss a few frogs to get where we are today. All 3 of them are looking at more losses before it is over. Fools gold.

We don't need favors from the Buffs. For once how our opponents do is not a big factor. We built our resume on our own. Normally we would be concerned about SOS and opponent records, but not this year, feels good.

I have complete disdain for Norwood, but I must say that this was a moving screen. He literally bulled over the defender. I watched the actual game and I agree, they should have pressured Baldwin much more in the back court.

It never should have been that close, I have seen other teams defend this play the same way, and I disagree with the strategy. They should have double-teamed Baldwin, he had 36 points, and they should have been running everybody else off the 3 point line/overplay the 3 point line/over-defend the 3 point line. If you give up a layup and go to ot as a result, then so be it.
You could see the Butler ball screener coming from a mile away too, the play was totally telegraphed.
At least with SLU, we didn't need the 3, only a 2, so SLU had to defend everything and couldn't afford to run Crutcher off the 3 point line.

No, I thought the screen was legit. Nothing illegal there imo. Rollo? The Butler screener set the screen and then moved to his right, nothing illegal there imo.

The initial screen was good. For the continuation, I would have expected to see a Caterpillar logo on his backside.

UIC #1 in Haslametrics momentum stat. I believe it now!
FYI, momentum is a comparison between a team's last 10 games vs. their full season performance. Dayton's momentum is essentially neutral (-0.04), indicating recent performance roughly equal to the whole season. Which is perfectly reasonable.

Couple things about the local state U
MLK Day game playing them would be a charity event for only one team and it isnt UD
Lets not get too cocksure (is that a legal word on this site?) about our own situation in the upcoming T. Need to understand any team we play is fighting to advance.
Play the same way as our opponents need to fight to advance we should be able to avoid the same fate as WSU.

As much as I am not for a Gem City Jam I was pulling for WSU. It's unfortunate that with the season they had that they won't be dancing. We've been there.

Wow - the Horizon League is bad. I used to think of them as a mid-major conference, but with those numbers they look like a low-major conference. Every team but 2 has at least 15 losses.
I use mid-major to mean conferences outside the main football conferences + Big East, but that regularly (not necessarily every year) put more than one team in the NCAA tournament. A-10, MWC, WCC, MVC might be the only ones left to fit that definition. The AAC maybe belongs in that category, too. They play football, but seems like the AAC is usually rated more like those 4 conferences than they are like the other power conferences. I used to include some others in that definition: CUSA (but all their good teams went to the AAC), Horizon (but nobody's left there either), and MAC (who probably still qualify but barely). I'd call the rest of the conferences (the one-bid conferences) low-major.

We should maybe look at ETSU for a home and home, q1 road game or q2 home game 3 out of the last 5 years.
ETSU rpi last 5 years starting with this year...23, 68, 92, 55, 86...assuming the rpi and net are roughly similar

Belmont would be another good option, they are lead by sophomores primarily, so they should be pretty good the next 2 seasons, would get Crutcher kind of close to home (or at least closer, I'm guessing its about 2 hours from home to Nashville for his family?)

The Ivy League used to always give their auto-bid to the regular season champ.
They're used to it.

Watched the first half of zags/smu. Went to bed with SMU up 1 (right before the half), was 100% confident gonazaga had it in the bag. SMU had two guys hitting miracle shots while the zags were sleeping and they still barely had a lead.
That said, I'm not sure gonzaga has what it takes to with the championship.

Last time I computed a few parameters using the NCAA NET was for games up to Feb 29 2020. AT that time the average NET for the Horizon League was a 238!!!
It will be a one bid conference for the foreseeable future with those kind of numbers. That is WSu's major hurtle in that league; lose the Championship and no matter what you are going the NIT route.
It also doesn't help that the schools in the Horizon played 15 games against none-D1 competition. All wins BTW.

My guess is Northern Kentucky will be the next team to leave the Horizon League. They are investing in facilities and having success. Wouldn't mind seeing them in the A10 in a few years.

This has been the pattern of the other 13 teams in the A10. Shoot their wad against the highly ranked Flyers and then have no heart left for their next opponent. And what's worse, is they show the same ineptness the game before they play us. I will be happy if none of them get invited to the dance, if indeed there is one, because their philosophy of only giving us a good game while sucking against their other opponents has made it harder for us to secure the one seed we should have secured a long time ago.

I’m not sure I follow your logic. We didn’t lose a single game to A10 opponents and outperformed analytics predictions most times.

Nebraska hc Fred Hoiberg did not finish tonight's game and was taken to the hospital...ugh, he could have the virus too...could lead to the cancellation of the NCAAT imo.

Hoiberg told IU's radio announcer he couldn't do a pregame interview because he had a temperature of 100 degrees. Why was he coaching the game? F'ing irresponsible.
If the team is cancelled, I wonder if the NCAA would still release the bracket, just to see how everybody would have been seeded? At least we could see UD as a number 1 seed, if only on paper.

Where are they going to go? There is nowhere feasible to go. The MVC is not looking to expand as far as I am aware. NKU is stuck in the HL imo. Their best course of action is to make the HL better via smart expansion.
Edit: I suppose the A10 could work. Murray State and Belmont are better options though imo.

I need to find a way to archive that broadcast. The wife and I were going to follow the team to Cleveland, so she willingly stayed home last Saturday, to allow my daughter and son-in-law to attend the game with me on my birthday. Her consolation prize was a night of uninterrupted time with our infant grandson, while they watched the game on ESPN+.

My son had not been able to watch the Obi sequence yet, I popped it on for him last night. Always fun to see an 11 year old kid have his mind blown. Thanks for the memories Obi, I'm not deleting that one anytime soon either.

Maybe this should be the last post for Games of note 2019-2020 edition:
The official non-official NCAA Championship Games.
Supposedly @SportsLine took @jppalmCBS’s final projected NCAA Tournament bracket and simulated the games. Here are the results:
FINAL FOUR: Duke vs. Dayton, Florida State vs. Gonzaga.
TITLE GAME: Dayton vs. Gonzaga
CHAMPION: Dayton

Wow, did not expect that.
Flyers 97- UMass 52.
Obi with a triple double.
34 assists by our Flyers, yes 34
7 Flyers in double digits, led by Jordy with 17.
On to tomorrow and the A-10 Semi Finals
Cheers!
