Madeline Blais
Any updates on her medical condition and whether she is in school and will be ready to go full tilt? She is a huge piece of this year's improvement puzzle.

Watch her You Tube video if you get a chance about the entire ordeal she's gone through. It's an hour - I've seen the first 15 minutes and she's quite brave sitting down and detailing all she's been through.

Went ahead and watched the last five minutes of her video and she mentions having lost 42 pounds in this ordeal and August 2nd having undergone a stool transplant which I believe is also known as a Fecal Microbiota Transplant to eliminate the C-diff. She now faces a battle with the colitis.

Bless her heart, wow.
Between her & big steve, puts things in perspective. Winning is great, but it's just a game.
Wonder if she'll take a redshirt & shoot for 2017? Prayers & good vibes either way

She posted a photo from the basketball picnic on her Instagram and added this to a question in the comments:
Though not out of the woods I can say for sure that I'm better than I was for most of summer.

Madeline is no longer listed on the roster. Does anyone know if she is still in school? I expected it to be very difficult for her to play this year after all of the weight loss. Wish her the best, she had an amazing smile in the team picture for someone who has been through so much

Thanks for sharing this so quickly. Wow is right!
It is hard to believe after all of this that she can still flash that beautiful smile. There are a few people who can light up a room with their smile and she is one of them. I certainly have to donate after seeing this.
It would be great if she returned next year to play bball. But, even if she didn't return to play bball I think she should come back to UD next year for an appearance and to be introduced at a game. I would think that they could raise quite a bit of money for a fundraising meet and greet dinner

A tough young lady battling this situation - lots of admiration for her. What surprised me to hear was the memory loss that she has had to deal with.

Coach Green at the Chalk Talk today said Madeline is doing much better and that they are working with her to get her back in school to complete her UD degree. (Don't know if she meant for the semester beginning Jan 17 or not). When asked about her playing, Coach Green said she has no expectation of her playing again. Her health is the priority.

Blais has penned an original song inspired by her illness -- very moving and poignant. Well done Madeline.
My first original song. My inspiration is pulled from the worst day of my entire life; the day I came to terms that my life was about to end due to my ongoing illness. I've now recovered and am always reminded of how lucky I am to be here and be singing.

Blais says, "I've now recovered." That is huge, because it does not happen for a large percentage of the people who are plagued with Colitis.

I talked to Madeline last evening and asked about her plans. She said she has sent out some resumes and plans return to the east coast (would like to locate in CT). Although life didn't go as planned when she came to Dayton, she has learned a lot and values each day. She is on a low dosage of one medication and soon will be off of that and will be able to manage her condition with her diet, which she said is no problem for her. She looks great!

I was looking forward to seeing her play. But, now I would not want her to play and possibly affect her condition in a negative way. She has a smile that lights up a room and it was nice to see the difference in her at the women's games!

Glad to hear Madeline is recovering. She is one of the lucky ones. If having such a debilitating disease can ever be considered lucky. I just got back from Indy on Tue, where my son was hospitalized for three weeks and had three operations to take out his colon. A super healthy 30 something, who is now a mess. His attitude is great, and he hopes to be back working in a couple of months.

I follow her on Instagram. She was out of the hospital after the stay that inspired her aunt to create that Go fund Me acct. She was even able to go to NYC to celebrate her BD with some friends, but now she is in the hospital again. It is a never ending illness which seems to give her a brief respite and then slams her again. She lives on pain meds.
Yes, she needs prayers.

Madeline posted on her instagram story today that she is consenting to have her colon removed. She made it three months without being hospitalized until this last episode. She said she should have had the surgery three years ago., and she is tired of spending her life in bed and the bathroom.
This would be a difficult adjustment for anyone, but especially someone so young.
Please pray that this surgery will ultimately improve her quality of life.

My son had it done two years ago, and although life is not perfect, his diet is close to normal, he has been back to work full-time and is back to his hobby of racing cars. It was absolutely the right decision. Madeline is right that she should have had it done in the past. Drugs, weakness and a very restricted diet are no way to live.

Madeline had surgery today at Mass General (about 6 hours ago). She was scheduled for Wednesday. They came into her room and said they would have to do it today, in 20 minutes. She was upset because she didn't even have any family there. She called her dad to come, but he was about 30 minutes out when they wheeled her into the operating room.
Good grief, you would think they would want patients in a calm state/good frame of mind going to into surgery!
