My La Salle preview & elsewhere in the A10, 2016 edition.

We're approaching halfway mark to the conference season this Thursday and the Flyers host the perennial nemesis, La Salle. La Salle has an uncharacteristic seven losses this season, five of which were by one goal. La Salle is having unusual trouble scoring goals, and also holding games with leads. That could be seen in the earlier 3-2 defeat by Villanova in which they coughed up a two goal lead, as well as this past weekend's 2-1 loss to the Saint Joseph's Hawks, where the Hawks found the equalizer and the go ahead less than a minute after.

Such Hawks are in the Top 50 for the first time this year, and are off to a remarkable 10-1-2 start overall, and 3-0-1 in the conference.

Saint Louis, another legitimate A10 title contender, also has reached double digit wins and a 3-0-1 mark inside the A10, however the Billikens fared 0-2 vs the Top 50, a blemish on the postseason resume, with their only remaining regular season chance being left at SJU.

The A10 is becoming ripe with teams wanting to compete for the crown in Kingston this November. It is another wide open race like last season became.

Defending champ Duquesne has been the beneficiary of a favorable schedule thus far but has made the most of their draw with four wins in four attempts. Fordham, too, is unbeaten in conference but will likely not stay that way as they approach the meat of their schedule in Dayton and GW.

There are ten teams with at least one win in the A10, and four winless teams (Davidson, Bonaventure, Rhode Island, Massachusetts). Of the ten teams that have been competitive this season, eight teams might advance. Currently, it's La Salle and Dayton that find themselves on the outside of that proverbial bubble, making this Thursday's match-up all the more important for both squads to stay at or above the .500 level. With both squads needing to make a statement victory here, it could be another legendary down to the wire contest. I'm looking forward to a smart defensive match and not too many mistakes.

Good recap. Dayton is starved for talent in the starting XI right now, but the A10 is relatively weak this year and I think they can still sneak into the A10 tournament with a .500 record. But they will need to play better. The VCU loss was a real back-breaker and demoralizing. We did a number of very positive things in that match for 65 minutes -- on any other Sunday we probably win 3-1. But the holes in our skills are hard to disguise over 90 minutes. As the VCU match showed, one slip-up is crippling because our margin is so thin.

Thanks. In some ways I was generous to say that a team like GW or VCU or Richmond or La Salle or Dayton is going to compete for the crown but last year showed us what neutralnsite can do for a marginal team that gets hot at just the right time. I actually think that George Mason, in losing by four goals to SLU, is probably going to fall out of the running and I think Duquesne will probably not maintain their unlikely ascent to the top so that makes at least eight teams capable of winning in November.

"This event has not started yet" It's 7:27. Is this typical from the feed not to have any intro whatsoever?

Is the video stream free for home games or should I subscribe in the next 3 minutes?

Video feed started in the nick of time (or five minutes late!) But you have to refresh your browser, they won't for you. Which is WHY they should START at 7:15.

Pretty much spot on here. There were a few more shots than I expected on either side, particularly La Salle getting 7 looks on target which is more than double than they garnered in a 1-0 result two years ago with Haycook on the pitch. The game from what I could tell on radio (video was not really working for me) featured no real bad mistakes and no costly fouls. There was obviously some frustration on the Flyers end for not being able to finish more chances, but Zambelli by the numbers is one of the top three goaltenders in this league and she made a few game changing saves tonight, as did Johns. La Salle put on more pressure at key moments in the end, but Dayton didn't cave to the pressure, even outshooting the opponents 5-2 in the final frame.

The game was probably more competitive than a 7th/10th A10 matchup had ever seen before, I'm almost certain. Obviously wanting that VCU result back even more now.

The series is now 17-6-2 (with the only other tie being a PK loss in 2013 A10 Championship), but the Flyers have won just one in their last seven vs the La Salle Explorers.

Game recap: http://www.udpride.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29811

Two mediocre teams trying to find an identity. Thats the long and short of it. We looked downright excellent over the first 30 minutes. The last 80 minutes were largely inept however. LaSalle wailed on us throughout much of the second half. When we are not physical in the central third, control possession, and shield defenders, we are in trouble. O'Malley was great early on. We missed that later on. She may still be hobbled.

Leedom's goal was terrific.

Our back line was very solid all game. The remaining 8 players did not defend well however. We missed some "gotta finish those" chances on offense with the goal mouth wiiiide open. You can't punt those opportunities away at this level.

Bottom line is we're playing a shell game every night to cover up a talent issue at too many positions. Not easy to get away with.
