Green Bay Game
Watching the game hoping after that good win versus Toledo it will be a different Flyer team. Nope! 1-6 shooting and 6 dumb turnovers to start the game.

This is just a bad basketball team. No help almost ever on defense. Little offensive movement. Clueless point guards, who pick up their dribble, because no one moves to get open. First quarter, 8 turnovers and 3-12 shooting. Again, no one but Scaife playing basketball.

26-23 GB at the half. Much better defense and rebounding that quarter. Offensively it is still Scaife with 14 against the world. Bradshaw and Fowler have 4 and 5 pts, and the rest of UD a big ZERO. Chandler a huge disappointment with 0-3 shooting, including two air ball threes.

13 baskets and 20 turnovers. Hard to take. We gave them 23 point off turnovers. Scored a whole 12 points in the 2nd half. We got destroyed. Hope this is a low point we can build from. Surprised we didn’t see Ella, or Davidson——/Can’t do worse than Wilmouth, Ward and Canetelli- who missed 100% of their shots!

Have OOC to turn this around.
This is a remarkable and totally unexpected decline. I actually thought my computer had frozen in the second half, and rebooted it.
We have a good coach. We have talent that showed it's mettle last season. Confidence is obviously gone. This is the point where coaches earn their money.

Green better earn her money on strategy and coaching in practice, because her recruiting is a dumpster fire. Three freshmen, and only one can play on an awful team. The transfers are mostly a swing and miss, with only one being close to a decent player. How do we recruit small point guards who cannot shoot a three or high percentage free throws or play good defense?

I don't know. Ask Dawn Staley the same question.

Rebounding The loss of the #5 rebounder in the nation (Layfield) must be made up by committee and so far they haven't come close. Harris was good rebounder also.

I think the brutal ooc schedule is leaving Skeens and Davidson out for now. Once past the top programs think Shauna will work them in.
Shauna also thought she had depth but giacone and Parkinson don't seem to be up to par. Then add the decline to Ward and Wilmuth it's a team in huge transformation.
Enter Maddy Dennis tells you all you kneed know about our bigs.
Lauren has had one good game out of five needs to see the bench and come in sparingly. She cant dribble drive to save her soul. The only true player we have is Jayla.
Could be Shauna first sub 500 season. She turned it around two years ago so let's see.

First of all, this is a work in progress so condemning this team to below .500 is being an alarmist. Second, have you noted the A-10 results this year the conference is dreadful so even with struggles UD will rack up a bunch of wins. Third, the potential is there for Fowler and Bradshaw to be effective point guards again give it time. Finallly, you want to put a 1,000 point soon to be scorer (16 away) on the bench. I don't think so.

Regardless of her output, I do think Cannatelli is playing too many minutes.
Why not give a FEW of those minutes to Skeens? I mean, Skeens has scored FOUR POINTS in ONE MINUTE of action. I like that ratio.

I know Ella has excellent credentials from high school in Chillicothe, maybe Shauna doesn't believe she's ready to be thrust into Division One action at this time I don't know. As for Wednesday night, not that it's comforting but Dawn Staley has complained openly about the lack of rebounding for her South Carolina squad and they did lose to Drake on Saturday.

I think Shauna and staff are pretty good recruiters. She was the main recruiter under JJ and is responsible for quite a few of the players we had doing good things for us in the past.
One thing we need to remember is that Giacone has missed two years worth of playing due to injuries. She needs time to get back into the game and flow. She may be tentative because of the missed time. She was a top 100 player, so we have to give her a break...IMO.
I still believe the troubles we have are rooted in our point guard play. It is their job to penetrate and pass, score, or reset the offense if nothing is there.
Fowler will penetrate, but doesn't look for the wings. Fowler was hurt last year, but has some ability. I want to see her be more of a passer than look first shooter. Example, we are battling back in OT against Northeastern and have a chance, call time out and the shortest player on the floor penetrates into the paint and gets the shot blocked. Why didn't she cut it back outside to Jayla or Cannatelli when we were down three with 10 seconds left?
Jayla has to create her own shot.
We all know what Cannatelli is and I am fine with her being on the floor. Her defense is not as bad as what it is being made out to be. She is not a point guard, never has been and never will be, but we have resorted to her playing some in games this year because of the lack of floor leadership from the others.
I think Bradshaw has the tools, but she too sat out a year too and may still be getting used to Green's offense. I am more inclined to give the ball to Bradshaw to run the offense, but she has to penetrate and dish...again just my opinion.
Lastly, I don't like Chandler playing outside. We need her low and using her body and height to score. Why does a big always feel like they have to be 3 point shooters?
I think we will turn it around and have a decent season, we knew there were going to be growing pains with an almost completely new look to our team. I am just looking for us to be competitive against South Carolina like we were at a lot of the time with Maryland.
Go Flyers!
